Homily of the 7th Sunday of Easter, Year A.
Theme: Prayer
Acts 1:14 - “All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer.”
What is Prayer? Prayer is the only necessary thing. Prayer is the key. It is a language by which we communicate with God.
What is the primary goal of prayer? The primary goal is union and relationship with God.
Many of us make our secondary goal beyond the primary goal. Prayer is not only about getting something from God. It is not a contract, as God gives then I pray.
The scripture says, pray without seizing. The goal of prayer is to seek God.
Why is your prayer inconsistent? Prayer is consistent. It is not only about what we want from God, but to speak and talk to God.
From the beginning of the mass till the end, is a prayer. It is important to come with an intention. If you come empty-handed, you will go back empty-handed.
How do we pray?
Do not say that the person who prays silently does not pray, and you who are shouting is praying.
Prayer is not about the intensity of your voice, but by your faith. Prayer does not work for many of us because we don't have faith, believe, or have the Spirit within us.
Romans 8:26 - “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words.”
Prayer is transformative. It changes the one who prays. When you pray and nothing is working, there's something wrong in your life.
As we await the coming of the Holy Spirit, pray in your heart that the Holy Spirit may guide you, and renew your prayer life.
Prayer is powerful. Prayer needs patience. Prayer is persistent.
At the right time God will answer. Believe that God will open the door, and your prayers will be answered. Do not disobey the voice of God. Patience is important. You need to trust, and believe that God is with you.
We pray that we may see the essence of prayer, that we need God in our lives. It is only in prayer that we can receive the peace, and joy we need in our lives. Happy Sunday!
