"Mummy, why are you talking to Daddy like that?"
The room suddenly became quiet.
The mother wasn't shouting. She had simply rolled her eyes, spoken with irritation, and walked away after her husband asked a simple question.
She smiled awkwardly and replied, "Nothing, dear."
But her little daughter had already seen enough.
Children are always watching.
A few days later, while playing with her younger brother, the little girl became frustrated. She rolled her eyes, folded her arms, and spoke to him in exactly the same tone she had seen at home.
No one had taught her those words.
No one had given her a lesson on disrespect.
She was simply repeating what she saw every day.
Many of us think parenting happens only when we're correcting our children, reading Bible stories, or teaching them right from wrong.
But some of the biggest lessons our children learn happen when we don't even realize they're watching.
They learn how to handle disagreements by watching us.
They learn how to apologize by watching us.
They learn how to forgive by watching us.
They learn what love sounds like by listening to the conversations between Mum and Dad.
The truth is, our marriage is one of our children's first classrooms.
That doesn't mean your marriage has to be perfect. Every couple disagrees sometimes. The difference is whether our children see pride or humility, harshness or kindness, silence or healthy reconciliation.
When they see parents who say, "I'm sorry," who pray together, who speak respectfully even during disagreements, they learn that love isn't the absence of conflict—it is choosing grace in the middle of it.
📖 "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:32
Your children may forget many of the words you tell them, but they will remember the atmosphere you created at home.
Let's pray 🙏
Heavenly Father, help us build homes where our children see Your love reflected in the way we treat one another. Teach us to speak with kindness, forgive quickly, and honour our spouses so that our children grow up knowing what Christlike love looks like. Amen.
