A disturbing case involving a teenage boy in Ughelli is a painful reminder that parenting cannot be left to chance.

Reports say the 16-year-old allegedly invited a girl to a hotel, had sexual activity with her against her wishes while she was menstruating, and recorded and shared content from the incident online. He was reportedly arrested and the matter is being investigated.

Beyond the case itself, parents must ask difficult questions: What are our children learning? Who are their friends? What are they watching online? What values are we teaching them?

Do not just bring children into the world. Raise them, guide them, monitor them and teach them responsibility, respect and self-control.

I and my family, and everyone connected and related to me, will see the end of this year in peace and sound health. No evil will cut our lives short. We will not become victims of terrorism, kidnapping, accidents, violence or any form of tragedy. The Lord will preserve our going out and coming in, protect us from every hidden danger, and surround us with His mighty presence.

Money acquired through kidnapping, bloodshed, exploitation and the suffering of others may bring temporary pleasure, but the consequences can be devastating and long lasting.

Never allow the desire for wealth to push you into destroying another person's life. There is dignity in honest labour, peace in a clear conscience and honour in making a living through legitimate means.
