Some phone calls do not simply interrupt our day; they interrupt our peace.

Some invitations arrive with excitement, while others usher in a strange kind of fear, a fear that makes you pause, withdraw into silence, and whisper a prayer before saying, “Hello.”

For Rev. Matthew, it was one of those calls.

The phone rang unexpectedly. He looked at the screen and saw the name of someone he never expected to hear from at that particular moment. His heart skipped.

He hesitated before answering.

“Hello?”

What he heard on the other end of the call left him speechless.

Sometimes, like Deacon Matthew, we encourage others while our own burden is quietly weighing us down.

We tell people to keep going, yet there are days when we struggle to take another step. We speak words of hope to others while fighting our own silent battles. We wipe the tears of others, even when our own eyes are filled with tears no one sees.

People may see our smiles, our strength, our service and our encouragement, but they may never see the nights we spend questioning, waiting and wondering when our own breakthrough will come.

But perhaps that is where faith becomes most powerful; not when everything is easy, but when we continue to trust God while carrying burdens nobody knows about.

If you are the one always encouraging others, remember this: you are allowed to need encouragement too. You are allowed to be tired. You are allowed to cry. And you are allowed to wait.

Your struggle does not mean God has forgotten you.

Like Deacon Matthew, your waiting season may be longer than you expected, but it does not mean your story has ended.

The God who used you to encourage others will also strengthen you. Your own testimony is still coming.
