HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that attacks the bodyβs immune system, especially CD4 cells (T cells), which help fight infections.
If untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS, the most advanced stage of HIV infection.
β IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT HIV
1. HIV Is Manageable
People living with HIV can live long, healthy lives with proper treatment called antiretroviral therapy (ART).
2. HIV Has No Cure Yet
There is currently no complete cure, but treatment can reduce the virus to an undetectable level.
3. Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U)
A person with HIV who maintains an undetectable viral load through treatment cannot sexually transmit HIV to others.
4. HIV Is Not a Death Sentence
Modern medicine has greatly improved the quality and length of life for people living with HIV.
5. Early Testing Saves Lives
The earlier HIV is detected, the sooner treatment can begin.
6. HIV Can Affect Anyone
HIV does not discriminate by gender, age, religion, tribe, or social status.
7. HIV Is Transmitted Through Certain Body Fluids
