Trump Says Iran Is “Completely Collapsing” as US Prepares New Sanctions
US President Donald Trump has declared that Iran is “completely collapsing” as Washington prepares to impose another round of sanctions aimed at intensifying economic pressure on Tehran.
According to a report by The Times of Israel on Monday, August 24, 2026, Trump made the remarks in a brief post on Truth Social as Iran’s currency fell to a new record low. The expected sanctions are intended to further squeeze an Iranian economy already weakened by previous US measures and a naval blockade.
The development comes amid continued tensions between Washington and Tehran, particularly over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has reportedly maintained its ability to restrict traffic through the strategic waterway, contributing to higher global shipping costs.
Despite the mounting economic pressure, diplomatic efforts have not completely stopped. The Times of Israel reported that Trump had spoken with Pakistan’s military chief in an apparent effort to help restart negotiations with Iran.
The latest sanctions are expected to target individuals and entities that continue doing business with Tehran, increasing the pressure on Iran to alter its position.
Trump’s declaration highlights the growing confrontation between the United States and Iran, with economic warfare, sanctions and control of the Strait of Hormuz remaining central to the escalating dispute.
