MESSAGE
What is fear? Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm.
We all experience fear at some point in our lives. Fear is a natural emotion we have as humans that can sometimes feel overwhelming.
People are afraid of death (Gen. 32:11), of disaster (Zeph. 3:15–16), and of the unknown (Gen. 19:30).
One psychotherapist lists the following as the Top 10 Fears That Hold People Back in Life:
1. Change
2. Loneliness
3. Failure
4. Rejection
5. Uncertainty
6. Something Bad Happening
7. Getting Hurt
8. Being Judged
9. Inadequacy
10. Loss of Freedom
As Christians, we know that we do not have to allow fear to take over our lives because, with God, we can overcome fear.
God did not give us the spirit of fear, but the Spirit of power, of love, and of self-control (II Timothy 1:7).
God said to Joshua at his resumption of leadership after the death of Moses:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
(Joshua 1:9)
Whatever your fears, God’s assuring presence is available today.
Jesus said:
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled…”
(John 14:27)
