"What David saw as Bathsheba took her bath was naked flesh. What he saw must have been very attractive and gripping so much so that when the messenger came and said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite”, David was not deterred.
Uriah was one of David’s mighty men who performed mighty acts as recorded in scripture. See 2 Samuel 23:8-39. Men who were loyal to David even unto death.
Uriah would gladly have given his life in exchange for David’s so it is worrisome that even when the messenger mentioned that this woman is the wife of Uriah, David still did not stop and think.
What kind of fire was it that burned in his loins that robbed this great king of reason, loyalty, and respect for a man who would gladly die for him?
One of the dangerous aspects of sexual temptation is the tendency for the one who is being tempted to lose grip with common sense and sometimes self-respect. You find most times that what a Christian would normally not sensibly engage in becomes the very attraction that breaks their consecration and rubbishes their testimony.
David did not recoil at the thought of adultery and ultimately sinning against God, but instead, he asked that she be brought to him immediately.
Beloved, David no matter the level of sexual desire or hunger he was under at that time, had numerous options open to him. He could have sent for a virgin daughter in the land, and gladly, one would have been ferried to him as a matter of urgency.
But somehow, something he saw in that spring evening had captured his heart and set fire in his loins. A fire that only an illicit union could quench.
One glance at naked flesh and a man with such a fantastic story became a ridicule before the whole nation. Some have never really researched this occurrence in scripture so they have not come to understand how low David fell just because he looked upon a woman who he could not have, desired her, ravished her and then killed her husband to cover his sin."
