TOPIC: CONTENTMENT
TEXTS - Philippians 4:10–13
Speaker: Miracle Egbon

Contentment is Respecting the reality of the present moment without the constant need for more.

It is peaceful satisfaction rooted in faith and trust in God's providence rather than in external circumstances.
So does that mean you are not motivated to be more? No. A person who wants better in life is growth oriented not comparison-driven. Focuses on improvement not competition.
Philippians 3:13–14
Thankful for where they are, but open to growth. Content in God but not stagnant.

Wanting more of God is not rooted in dissatisfaction with God's provision. It is rooted in love for God himself. Contentment is in trusting in His provision & not yours.
A person who is not contented, focus on what is missing instead of what is present. Always compare. Always feel what I have is not enough.
A dissatisfied person is never satisfied even when things are good. They are always driven by comparison.

Lack of contentment leads to:
1. Covetousness – Exodus 20:17
2. Foolishness – 2 Corinthians 10:12

How to stay contented and how You overcome comparison :
1. Anchoring your identity in God
The secret to contentment is relationship with Jesus. We come to realize that God is our sufficiency he is our providence. It has to be imprinted in our consciousness that The Lord is our shepherd and we do not want.
• Matthew 6:26, 28–30
• Luke 12:6–7
• Hebrews 13:5

2. Understand that our assignments/purpose are different
• Matthew 25:14–30
Everyone has been given a value. Comparison will make you like the servant with 1 talent.

3. Practice gratitude
• A contented person is a grateful person. To stay contented we have to consciously practice the act of thanksgiving and gratitude. We are quick to forget the goodness and provision of God when we are faced with challenges. We most times behave like the children of Isreal who will murmur and complain at the slightest inconvenience. When we begin to keep record of our testimonies, the blessings of God, it becomes evidence and assurance to us that our father looks after us in those moments when we begin to feel down. Keep a gratitude journal
• 1 Thessalonians 5:18
• Philippians 2:14-15

5. Control what you repeatedly consume. In the era of social media we are often too shown the perfect things without knowing the behind the scenes. Guide your heart and your eyes.
• Proverbs 4:23

Dangers of Lack of Contentment
One fruit of sin different expression . A person who is not contented will always murmur and complain and become ungrateful. These actions have consequences. Sometimes the forgiveness of sin doesn’t take away the consequences of the action.
Numbers 11:1 , Numbers 14:27-29

Examples in the Bible
1. Cain - Genesis 4:1-8 . We see how lack of contentment lead to jealousy, resentment, anger and envy.
2. King Ahab - I kings 21.

True contentment is wealth itself -
1 Timothy 6:6
Luke 12:15.

SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON
June 21, 2026
TOPIC:TEENAGERS RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE HOME
TEXT:
Ephesians 6:1-9; Colossians 3:1-24

MEMORY VERSE:
Colossians 3:23 "And whatever you do, do it heartily as to the Lord and not to men."

OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Discuss the responsibilities of teenagers in the home.
2. Resolve to take up their responsibilities at home.

INTRODUCTION
The family as we know is God's foremost institution of co-existence. The family is made up of the parents (father and mother) and children, house help and relatives. Everyone in the home has a role to play. Those roles are otherwise responsibilities given to us by God and should be seen as a way of promoting God's program on the earth. As we learn to play our roles properly, God takes pleasure in us and blesses our lives. Let us learn from this lesson to take our responsibilities seriously and see it as an act of worship.

STUDY QUESTIONS
1.Mention some of the spiritual responsibilities of teenagers:
Eph. 6:1-2, 5-8, Eccl. 12:1, Lk. 2:49-52
1 Thess. 5:17-18
2. Discuss the merits and demerits of a teenager supporting the economic life of the family. Gen.37:1-2,
1Sam.16:11,1 Sam. 17:14-15, 34-37
3. How can a teenager contribute to a wholesome family life in these areas?
a. Health (2 Kings 5:2-4; Gen. 42:3-5)
b. Interpersonal Relationship (Rom. 12:9-10, 13-19)
c. Conflict Resolution (Eph. 4:31-32)
d. Family Bond and Unity (Psalm 133:1-2; Heb. 13:1-3)
(Running errands
Showing concern for the needs of family members)

SUMMARY
We have seen that teenagers have serious roles to play in keeping the family together and in bringing prosperity to the home. Every teenager should be concerned about his or her family welfare and should take positive steps to contribute in all aspects of the family's well-being. We all should from today, fulfill our roles to the glory of God.
When we serve and meet the needs of our homes, we serve God. God is never happy when we neglect our duties at home and come to church to do His work. Let us learn to fulfill both our family responsibilities and our responsibilities toward God and others.
