Mercy has an history of changing verdicts.

Moses interceded when Israel deserved judgment.

David deserved consequences, but repeatedly experienced God’s mercy.

The prodigal son returned with a speech of repentance. But the father responded with restoration.

The thief on the cross had no opportunity to repair his past.

He simply appealed to Jesus:

“Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.”
