*Working Out Your Salvation.*

We don't have to work for salvation; rather, we rely on the Holy Spirit to change us from within.

Philippians 2:12-13 :
12. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

In today’s passage, what does it mean to “work out your salvation”? Many people mistakenly think Paul was telling us to work for our salvation. But the apostle was saying something completely different that your salvation experience isn’t the end of your spiritual journey. It’s the beginning.

Once you have trusted Jesus as Savior, you can start living out what He’s given you His abundant life. If you’ve given your heart to Him, the Holy Spirit now indwells you forever. It is God’s Spirit working in and through you that provides the power to lean into the fullness of your salvation.

As your faith and relationship with the Lord develop, you’ll begin to notice Him moving in your life. Then, when you share your faith and blessings with others, it will become evident that God is working through you in new ways. Keep following Him, and the seeds He has planted within you will start to flourish (Isa. 55:10-11). So “work out your salvation” means reverently acting on the basis of what God has already given you—and allowing the life of Christ within you to come into full flower.

Your salvation should become an expression of Jesus’ life wherever you are. As you work it out, God’s Spirit will energize you to make a difference and impact others in countless ways. Shalom !!!.

*Responding to Mistreatment.*

Don't be discouraged if persecution comes—God blesses those who suffer for the sake of righteousness.

1 Peter 3:13-18 :
13. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

14. But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

15. But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

16. Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

17. For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

18. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Hardship has been a common experience in Christianity ever since the apostles first proclaimed the message of salvation. And though we may never face things like imprisonment or death for our beliefs, we’ve probably all felt the sting of rejection or ridicule.

Peter wrote to a group of believers who were treated harshly because of their faith. His goal was to offer encouragement and a reminder to follow Jesus’ example: Our sinless Lord, who died on the cross to bring us to God, was openly mocked but never responded with anger. Instead, He patiently suffered in full submission to His Father, “entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously” (1 Pet. 2:21-23).

Without this perspective, we could quickly descend into self-pity or angry resentment when we’re mistreated. But Peter reminds us that we are blessed when we suffer for the sake of righteousness. Not only will we receive a reward in heaven (Matt. 5:11-12), but we may also have an opportunity to be a witness for Christ.

A wise response to ill-treatment flows from an understanding of God’s ways. We can trust our heavenly Father, knowing that He can work every situation for our good and His glory. Shalom !!!.

*Unshakeable Faith.*

Because Daniel and his friends knew and trusted God, they courageously responded to difficulty with faith.

Daniel 1:1-20 :

Daniel’s faith was unwavering. His trust in the Lord sustained him when he was taken into captivity and sent to a foreign country. It also strengthened and encouraged him as he served under kings and faced many daunting challenges.

Knowing God and trusting Him are the two key elements of faith. Daniel learned about the Lord from a young age. While he was in captivity, his words and actions demonstrated that he knew the Scriptures and wanted to obey God. When offered a meal that was incompatible with Jewish dietary laws, he took a risk by requesting other food. In verse 9 of today’s passage, we see that God caused the official to show him favor. Like Daniel, we are to spend our lives learning and carrying out what pleases our heavenly Father (Col. 1:10).

Daniel knew what the Scriptures said, but he also trusted the Lord to do as He had promised. Every time Daniel took a stand for godliness, he was demonstrating his confidence in God. His friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego had unshakeable faith as well. They did not know if God would rescue them from the fiery furnace, but they believed He could (Dan. 3:16-18).

Do you want to have a deeper faith in God? Ask for His help to trust Him the way Daniel did. Shalom !!!.

*How to Have an Abundant Life.*

True fulfillment comes when we seek God above everything else.

Psalm 16:11 : Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

In public, most people seem happy. But beneath the surface, some likely feel empty. In fact, it’s possible to be in a large crowd and yet feel alone.

There’s a reason why this can occur: Man was created with a yearning that only God is able to satisfy. Individuals cannot be fulfilled until they experience His transforming and unconditional love. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). In other words, the Lord wants us to feel complete, which can happen only through a relationship with Him.

However, even a person who is saved can feel empty. At times this results from disobedience: A detour in one’s walk with the Lord can become a way of life, depriving a believer of deep satisfaction. It’s also possible for Christians to live according to God’s Word without fully surrendering to the Father. For example, many believers still try to fill their own void with achievements, wealth, or relationships. When such aspirations are given higher priority than the Lord, they can lead to a sense of dissatisfaction. An abundant life is possible only when we seek God above all else. Pray for His guidance as you search your heart. Confess any sin and ask God to fill your life as only He can do. Shalom!!!

*From Emptiness to Fulfillment.*

Jesus can satisfy the yearnings of your heart.

John 4:3-29 :

As we saw yesterday, many people experience feelings of emptiness. How can we prevent this from happening? The account of the Samaritan woman in John 4 is a wonderful place to start. Through the story, we learn that ...

Filling our emptiness is important to the Lord. In the first century, Jewish people bypassed Samaria because of their hatred for its inhabitants. Yet Jesus chose to travel there because He knew a hurting woman was ready to hear about the Father’s love.

Our attempts at happiness often fall short. The woman at the well had been wed five times, but her marriages hadn’t provided what she truly needed.

God knows our pain. When the woman said she didn’t have a husband, Jesus revealed that He already knew. By demonstrating His awareness of both her hurt and her longing, He helped the woman recognize her greater need: a Savior.

Jesus can satisfy our yearnings. Jesus revealed the way to experience a full life: “Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst” (vv. 13-14).

Do you ever feel like the Samaritan woman tossed aside and craving love and fulfillment? Surrender to your loving heavenly Father, and life as you know it will change for the better. Shalom !!!.

*God’s Plans Will Prevail.*

Rebellion against God produces heartache.

Jonah 1:1-17 :

Jonah fled toward Tarshish to escape God’s plan. Perhaps the prophet thought that ignoring a divine command would cause the Lord to withdraw or change it. Instead, God dramatically intervened in Jonah’s life until he submitted.

Jonah believed he had good reason to be reluctant. The Ninevites were a brutal civilization determined to conquer Israel. So walking across the city while crying, “Nineveh will be overthrown” was a frightening thought. And, as the prophet later revealed, he worried that God would spare the city if the people repented (Jonah 4:2). Jonah wanted them destroyed for what they had done to his people. His reasons for fleeing seemed right in his own eyes. But God was not deterred.

There’s no justification for rebellion. God desires our obedience. He has reasons for asking us to take a specific action, and His purposes are always good.

The Lord doesn’t change His plan to suit our purpose. Rather, He’ll use events, people, circumstances, and the prompting of the Holy Spirit to move us into the center of His will. For your own benefit, go willingly. You may not particularly like the task God assigns, but if He wants it done, then trust that it must be worthwhile. Shalom !!!.

*How to Rekindle the Fire.*

Our spiritual condition matters for us and everyone in our circle of influence.

Luke 10:26-28 :
26. He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27. And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

28. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

The Lord created us to live passionately for Him not only for the joys we will experience in a relationship with the Creator but also for the benefit to those around us. Just as the warmth and beauty of flames draw people toward a hearth, God uses our passion to draw others to Himself (Matt. 5:16).

So we must be careful not to let our fervor fade. Thankfully, the indwelling Holy Spirit nudges believers who start to head in the wrong direction. If you sense this happening, you can take several steps to realign yourself with Him.

First, evaluate where you are spiritually ask God whether your fire has dwindled to embers. Second, acknowledge any distance you’ve allowed to separate you from your heavenly Father, and repent. Third, refocus your attention on Jesus, and meditate on how He teaches His followers to live. Spend quality time in Scripture daily, asking the Lord to speak to you through His Word. Cry out earnestly, seeking God’s guidance and wisdom. Fourth, rely upon the Holy Spirit to guide you back to an intimate and exciting relationship with the Father. Finally, love and serve God by worshipping Him and loving others.

If your spiritual passion has diminished, ask the Lord to help you renew it. Living closely with Him is well worth the effort. Shalom !!!.

*Preparation Through Prayer.*

The early church discovered that God releases His power in response to prayer.

Acts 1:9-14 :
9. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11. Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12. Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

13. And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

14. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

The book of Acts is an amazing record that shows not only the way God worked through the early church but also how central prayer was to its growth. Right after Jesus’ ascension, believers gathered and “devot[ed] themselves to prayer” (1:14).

Talking to God was their means of preparing for the work He planned for them. Jesus had told them the Father would give the Holy Spirit to those who ask (Luke 11:13). Then after the resurrection, He instructed them to stay in Jerusalem until they were “clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).

To the degree we’re willing to admit our absolute helplessness to do God’s work, the Holy Spirit will empower us as we pray. When we are devoted to prayer, the Lord begins to work in our heart, preparing us for service. He provides the courage to face any challenge that might result, and the Spirit emboldens us to speak God’s Word (Acts 4:29, Acts 4:31).

God is looking for believers who understand the importance of prayer and realize the only way to fulfill His calling for the church is through His power. The church is not grown through programs but through the humble supplications of saints who gather together in utter dependence upon Him. That’s when God’s power is released and His will is accomplished. Shalom !!!.

*God’s Provision in Life’s Storms.*

When life feels overwhelming, God remains present and provides what we need for endurance.

Matthew 14:22-34 :

None of us likes suffering. But in God’s hands, trials can become tools that shape us into the people He created us to be.

In our own strength, we often lack the resources and abilities to meet life’s big challenges. So God provides just what we need and gives us an awareness of His presence. In today’s reading, the disciples thought they were alone in a storm. When they initially spotted the Lord, they were afraid because they mistook Him for a ghost. To quickly calm their fears, Jesus said, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid” (v. 27). During a crisis, we may not sense God’s presence, but He’s promised always to be with us (Deut. 31:6). Assurance of His presence provides immediate comfort and a sense of confidence that helps us endure.

Another promise God makes is to provide a path through trials. The disciples must have wondered if they’d make it safely to shore. But had they somehow avoided this storm, they would have missed the demonstration of Jesus’ power. God wants to reveal His might to us as well.

Ask the Lord to let you experience His abiding presence. He will provide strength to endure and wisdom to identify the way through your troubles. Shalom !!!.

*How We Respond to a Storm.*

Our view of God impacts our reactions to adversity.

2 Chronicles 20:12 : O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

Picture a backyard party where all the guests are having fun, but then the wind picks up. The sky darkens, and the scent of rain is in the air. Everyone scrambles indoors. Just as the last person rushes in, the skies let go. Inside, people gather into clusters. One group stands at the window, oohing and aahing at the thunder and lightning outside. Others hug each other or cover their ears; a few jump and shudder with every boom. Another group, chatting away, seems completely oblivious to the weather. Isn’t this a picture of how people react differently to the storms of life?

When it comes to the upheavals we face, our varied responses can have a significant impact down the road. Some people respond in a healthy way and emerge stronger, while others are overwhelmed by the challenge.

What accounts for the difference in our response is our view of God. If we see Him as our loving Father, we’ll understand He has the best possible plan for our life. But if we consider Him an obstruction to the goals we’ve set for ourselves or think He’s only looking to punish us, we could miss out on blessings.

Storms are unavoidable in life (John 16:33). When one comes our way, the wisest thing we can do is to cry out to Jesus and trust Him to see us through whatever comes. Shalom !!!.
