TOPIC: People of God
INTRODUCTION
God created humanity in His image and entrusted them with the gift of procreation to continue His creation. People form nations, comprising diverse tribes and cultures. However, beyond earthly divisions, there is a greater identity—the People of God—united not by race or heritage, but by faith in Christ.
INTERPRETATION
PASSAGE OBSERVED
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God responds to Solomon’s prayer, giving His people a conditional promise. He assures them that if they humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from wickedness, He will hear them, forgive their sins, and heal their land.
PASSAGE EXPLAINED
Being part of God’s people is not limited to Jewish descent. Anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord becomes a child of God and a member of His chosen people.
"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy." — 1 Peter 2:9–10
God’s people come from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds. What unites them is their commitment to follow Jesus rather than the ways of the world. Jesus affirms this in John 10:14–16:
_"I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd." This highlights that being God’s people is about faith in Christ, not lineage.
APPLICATION
As God’s people, we are called to:
Be chosen by God – "But you are a chosen race..." (1 Peter 2:9)
Accept Jesus as Lord – Becoming His disciple, learning from Him (Matthew 11:29).
Proclaim the Gospel – Sharing His message with others (Mark 3:14; Romans 10:17).
Live in Holiness – Reflecting His character (1 Peter 1:15–16).
Be known by God – Recognizing that our worth comes from Him, not our achievements (Psalm 147:4).
Pray in His Name – Calling upon Jesus Christ in all circumstances.
CONCLUSION
Beloved, maintain your sonship in the Lord, living in obedience to Him. Your value comes from being a child of God, not from worldly success. Stay faithful, for the reward is eternal life, and the consequence of turning away is eternal separation from Him. Remain steadfast to avoid hell and embrace the eternal kingdom of God.
