9th Remembrance of Faḍīlatul Shaykh Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Olalere Baba Oba Az-Zakawiy RTA

It is exactly nine years today since Faḍīlatul Shaykh Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Olalere Baba Oba Az-Zakawiy RTA changed his position from this temporary and sinful globe to the presence of his Creator.

Allah says in the Qur’an, Surah Āl-‘Imrān 3:169:

“And do not think of those who are slain in the way of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision.”

Baba was a great Sufi under one of the righteous paths of Islam, Ṭarīqah Tijaniyyah. He was very famous throughout the world within this Ṭarīqah, and Baba completely submitted himself to his Master, Mawlānā As-Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass RTA. May Almighty Allah make them both among the close friends in Jannatul Firdaus. Āmīn.

Baba did not belong to any of the popular Arabic and Islamic schools in Yorubaland. He acquired much of his knowledge from Ghana, where he was also initiated into the Ṭarīqah. Baba was an embodiment of Sharī‘ah and stood as a great reference in Sufism, especially in Ṭarīqah Tijaniyyah.

Despite being born into a royal family, Baba placed Islam above everything else in his life. His commitment to knowledge, worship, teaching and the propagation of Islam was remarkable.

Baba was also a great interpreter of the Qur’an (Mufassir), and his Tafsir was among the most enjoyable and impactful Tafsir sessions in Oke-Ogun generally. His knowledge was not limited to Tafsirul-Qur’an. Whenever you listened to Mawlānā explaining the Dīwān of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass RTA, you would be amazed by his depth of understanding. His explanations were so profound that one could almost feel as though he had been present when Baye Inyass was composing the Dīwān.

Truly, we were blessed to have such a great scholar in Saki. Baba used his knowledge, wisdom and talents to promote Islam and strengthen Islamic scholarship in Saki and beyond. Alhamdulillah!

Baba was entrusted with several important Islamic positions in Saki. He held more than ten different positions, and he served each of them with wisdom and responsibility. His leadership was respected, and he was able to manage these responsibilities effectively before eventually becoming the Seriki Mallami of Oke-Ogun, a position that placed him as a leading authority among the scholars and Alfas of Oke-Ogun.

All that I have written above is only a very small fraction perhaps 0.1% of the 100% thoughts and memories I have about this great Mawlānā, the immediate former Seriki Mallami of Oke-Ogun.

Nine years have passed, but the light of his knowledge, teachings and service to Islam continues to shine. His students, disciples and the people he impacted remain living reminders of the legacy he left behind.

May Almighty Allah continue to shower His endless mercy upon Baba’s grave, illuminate his resting place, forgive his shortcomings, elevate his rank among the righteous, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.

May Allah preserve and continue to grow positively everything Baba left behind, and may his knowledge, teachings and legacy continue to benefit generations yet unborn, Bihimmati Rasūlillāhi SAW

ALHAMDULILLAH FOR A NEW MILESTONE! 🎓💚

What started as a vision has now become a reality. Alhamdulillah!

We are delighted to celebrate the successful establishment of the Tijaniyyah Muslim Students Association of Nigeria (TIMSAN), Michael Adeniyi Koleosho Polytechnic, Saki (MAK) Chapter, formerly known as The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki (TOPS).

This is more than just a signboard; it represents the beginning of a platform for spiritual growth, knowledge, brotherhood, and the propagation of the beautiful teachings of Islam and the Tijaniyyah path among students.

With regular programmes including Tijaniyyah classes, Qubrah, Lateef, Dhikr Nights, Friday and Sunday prayer programmes, we pray that this chapter continues to grow and become a source of guidance, unity and benefit to the students and the entire Polytechnic community.

May Allah SW bless this noble initiative, strengthen everyone behind it, grant TIMSAN MAK continuous growth and acceptance, and make it a lasting source of khayr for generations to come.

MAK POLY AT TOYCAC’26

MAK Polytechnic, formerly known as The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, proudly participated in the TIMSAN Oyo State Camp and Conference 2026 (TOYCAC’26), which was held in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Alhamdulillāh, the programme was a great success and a memorable gathering that brought together brothers and sisters from different institutions and communities across Oyo State. It provided a wonderful opportunity for our members to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood, share knowledge, learn from one another, and deepen their understanding of the Tijaniyyah Ṭarīqah.

One of the major highlights of the conference was the presence of our respected Tijaniyyah scholars, who were invited to enlighten and educate the participants about the teachings, principles, history, and spiritual path of Ṭarīqah Aḥmadiyyah Tijaniyyah. Through their lectures and guidance, participants were reminded of the importance of holding firmly to the Qur’an and Sunnah, maintaining love for our beloved Prophet Muḥammad SAW, increasing in Ṣalāt ʿalan-Nabī, engaging in Dhikr, and cultivating good character.

The Tijaniyyah is a path centred on the love and remembrance of Allah, adherence to the teachings of the Messenger of Allah Muḥammad SAW, and spiritual purification. The gathering further reminded us that true spirituality should reflect itself in our character, our dealings with people, our pursuit of knowledge, and our service to humanity.

Another remarkable aspect of TOYCAC’26 was the debate competition, in which our brothers and sisters from MAK Polytechnic participated and performed excellently. Their performance was indeed commendable and demonstrated that TIMSAN places importance not only on religious and spiritual development but also on academic excellence, intellectual growth, confidence, and leadership skills.

This is one of the beautiful lessons we continue to learn through TIMSAN: being a student of the Tijaniyyah does not mean neglecting education or worldly responsibilities. Rather, knowledge should be pursued wherever it leads to goodness, wisdom, discipline, and service to humanity. Our religious and academic development should complement one another.

TOYCAC’26 also served as a platform for young Tijaniyyah students from across Oyo State to interact, establish new friendships, exchange ideas, and strengthen the spirit of unity. It reminded us that TIMSAN is not merely an association for gathering; it is a platform through which young Muslims can be nurtured intellectually, spiritually, morally, and socially.

We sincerely appreciate the organisers of TIMSAN Oyo State for putting together such an impactful programme and for creating an environment where young people can learn more about their faith while developing their academic and leadership abilities. We also appreciate our respected scholars for their valuable teachings, advice, guidance, and continuous efforts towards the growth and preservation of the Tijaniyyah tradition.

May Allah continue to strengthen TIMSAN, bless all its leaders, scholars, coordinators, and members, and make the association a means of bringing more young people closer to Allah and His beloved Messenger Muḥammad SAW.

May Allah increase us in beneficial knowledge, strengthen our Imān, beautify our character, and make us steadfast upon the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the authentic teachings of our beloved Prophet SAW.

May Allah preserve the Tijaniyyah Ṭarīqah, bless our beloved Shaykh Aḥmad Tijaniy RTA, elevate the ranks of all our righteous scholars and teachers, and allow us to benefit from their teachings.

May Allah unite the hearts of all TIMSAN members across Oyo State and beyond, bless our academic pursuits, grant us success in our studies and future careers, and make us beneficial to our families, communities, and humanity at large.

May Allah accept the efforts behind TOYCAC’26, reward everyone who contributed to its success, and grant us the ability to continue walking upon the path of love, knowledge, Dhikr, good character, and service to Islam.

TIMSAN MAK (Formerly Known as TIMSAN TOPS – The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki)

Alhamdulillāh, all praise is due to Allah for granting us another successful milestone in the history of TIMSAN MAK, formerly known as TIMSAN TOPS (The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki). TIMSAN, which stands for Tijaniyyah Muslim Students’ Association of Nigeria, remains committed to promoting the teachings of Islam, strengthening the spirit of brotherhood, and encouraging members to remain steadfast in the daily remembrance of Allah (Adhkār).

As part of our leadership transition, certificates of appreciation were presented to the outgoing executives in recognition of their dedication, sacrifices, and selfless service to the association. At the same time, appointment letters were officially presented to the incoming executives, marking the beginning of a new chapter of leadership and responsibility.

We pray that Allah (SWT) abundantly rewards the outgoing executives for every effort they rendered in the service of Islam and TIMSAN, forgives their shortcomings, and grants them continuous success in this world and the Hereafter. May He also grant the incoming executives wisdom, sincerity (Ikhlās), patience, unity, and the strength to lead with justice while upholding the noble values and objectives of the association. Āmīn.

To the outgoing executives: Your tenure may have ended, but your responsibility to support and uplift the association has not. Continue to be good ambassadors of TIMSAN, offer sincere advice to the new leadership, and remain committed to the daily Adhkār and the path of righteousness.

To the incoming executives: Leadership is a trust (Amānah). Lead with humility, fear Allah in all your affairs, uphold justice, maintain unity among members, and never neglect the daily Adhkār, which is the foundation of our spiritual growth. Serve with sincerity, and always place the interest of Islam and the association above personal interests.

May Allah continue to strengthen TIMSAN MAK, bless all its members, unite our hearts upon goodness, and make this association a means of guidance and benefit for generations to come. Āmīn.

SUFISM IN ISLAM

Sufism is not wearing a robe that you patch
And it's not the shedding of tears when the singers sing
It's not crying out, nor dancing, nor musical entertainment
And it's not swooning as if you had become possessed
Sufism is rather your serenity, without distress
And following the truth of the Qur'an and the religion.

Sufism is not all about charming (Sihr)
And it's not treating to be searching for better way
Sufism is not a room for ranking yourself in order for people to know your post (qeemah)
But Sufism is all about remembering Allah
And is a straight connection to God (Allah)

Sufism is not all about praising your mentor (Sheikh) and neglecting other’s people’s mentors, Sufism teaches us to praise our Sheikhs and regard other’s people’s sheikhs.

It’s not part of Sufism to be neglecting and turning Islamic law (Sari’ah) upside down, Sufism teaches us to give a full regard to Sari’ah and follow Kitaab and Sunnah.

Imaam Maalik said in one of his quotes: "If someone practices Sufism (Tasawwuf) without acquiring knowledge of the law (Fiqh), he has become an infidel (Zindiq), while he who practices the law without acquiring knowledge of Sufism has become a debauched degenerate (fãsiq). He who combines the two is on the truth."

The above quote of Imaam Mãlik teaches us that Sufism is an ocean of Islamic knowledge and you can only understand the whole concept of Shari'ah (Islam) by having full knowledge of Sufism... May Almighty Allah guide everyone of us to the right path and may him enrich us to be the part of those Sãbiquun Bihimmati Aoliyahillah Aaamin thumma Aaamin
