Earlier this morning, Professor Adam Adebayo Sirajudeen, fniti, who doubles as the Grand M***i Tijaniyah of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States honored the the invitation of the Tijaniyah Muslim Students'Association of Nigeria(TIMSAN) Federal University of Lafia Chapter where he serve as the Guest speaker at their 6th Annual Maolud and Send off. The event, organised to reflect on the noble character of the prophet Muhammad (SAW), served as the spiritual awakening and educational platform for the students and Muslim community present. Prof, a revered spiritual leader and custodian of Islamic traditions, did not only illuminate the students with the reflection of the life and teachings of the prophet but also shed more light on the often misunderstood Tijaniyyah Order and its place in the practice of Islam.
In his lecture, the Grand M***i emphasized that prophet Muhammad (SAW) was the embodiment of mercy, patience, sincerity, and humility. He urged the students and the Muslim Ummah to model their lives after the prophet's moral conduct, which is the highest standard of behavior in both private and public life. Prof explained that the prophet's character was a practical demonstration of the holy Qur'an itself, reminding them that living according to his example is not merely an ideal, but an achievable reality for every believer through constant self discipline, sincerity in worship, and love for humanity.
Beyond the topic given to him, the Grand M***i used the occasion to clarify and educate the public on the spiritual foundation of the Tijaniyah Order. He stressed that while Shari’ah constitutes the theoretical framework of Islam which cover laws, obligations, and prohibitions, Tariqah as practiced in the Tijaniyah represents the practical application of that theory through inner purification, remembrance of Allah, service to others, and love for the Prophet. He said, “Islam is a complete religion, and while the Shari’ah teaches us what to do and what to avoid, the Tariqah trains the soul to act sincerely, to detach from hypocrisy, and to connect with the divine in a deeper, more spiritual way.” Prof. Adam further explained that the Tijaniyah path does not oppose the Shari’ah but rather complement and enhances its effect in a believer's life. He urged the students and the Muslim Ummah not to be misled by misconceptions or divisions, but to understand that both Shari’ah and Tariqah are complementary paths leading to closeness with Allah. He cited examples from the lives of classical scholars and saints who combined both jurisprudence and spirituality, balancing outward knowledge with inner realization.
In closing, Prof. Adam reminded all present that following the Prophet’s moral example is not confined to rituals alone but extends to compassion for others, justice in dealings, truthfulness in speech, and humility before God. He encouraged the students, in particular, to embrace the teachings of Islam fully both its legal and spiritual dimensions so that they may become true ambassadors of the faith anywhere themselves. Bàbà M***i did not only revived the essence of prophetic morality but also bridged the gap between knowledge and practice, reminding all that true Islam is lived from the heart outward.
May the peace of Allah continue to be upon the noble prophet.
