6th SUNDAY OF EASTER
IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU WILL KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS”
The readings today reveal how the Holy Spirit strengthens the Church and helps believers remain faithful to Christ.
In the First Reading, Philip brings the message of Christ to Samaria, where many people experience healing, deliverance, and conversion. The visit of Peter and John, who lay hands on the believers so they may receive the Holy Spirit, shows the unity of the early Church and the importance of the Spirit in the life of every Christian.
In the Second Reading, Saint Peter encourages believers to remain steadfast in faith, always ready to explain the hope they have in Christ with gentleness and respect. He reminds them that suffering for doing good unites them with Christ, who gave His life to bring humanity back to God.
In the Gospel, Jesus promises His disciples that they will not be left alone after His departure, but that the Father will send the Holy Spirit, the Advocate and Spirit of Truth, to remain with them forever. Through these readings, we are reminded that God never abandons His people; rather, through the Holy Spirit, He strengthens us to remain faithful, live according to His commandments, and become witnesses of hope, truth, and love even in difficult moments.
