Good day brethren , this is today's message. Read and be blessed.
Sermon Title: Besetting sin"
*Text: Hebrews 12:1-2*
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith."
*Introduction*
- A besetting sin is a sin that we struggle with repeatedly, one that easily entangles and hinders our walk with God.
- It's a sin that we often find ourselves returning to, despite our best efforts to resist it.
- Examples of besetting sins include anger, lust, pride, fear, or any other sin that we find ourselves repeatedly struggling with.
*The Nature of Besetting Sin*
- Besetting sin is often a result of our fleshly nature, our old self that we inherited from Adam (Romans 7:14-25).
- It's a sin that can be triggered by our thoughts, emotions, or circumstances.
- Besetting sin can lead to feelings of guilt, shame, and frustration, making us feel like we're stuck in a cycle of sin and repentance.
*The Consequences of Besetting Sin*
- Besetting sin can hinder our relationship with God, making us feel distant and disconnected from Him.
- It can also affect our relationships with others, causing hurt, conflict, and brokenness.
- Besetting sin can lead to spiritual stagnation, preventing us from growing in our faith and becoming more like Christ.
*Breaking Free from Besetting Sin*
- To break free from besetting sin, we need to *acknowledge and confess* our sin to God (1 John 1:9).
- We need to *identify the triggers* of our besetting sin and develop strategies to avoid or overcome them.
- We need to *put on the armor of God* (Ephesians 6:10-18) and rely on His power and strength to resist temptation.
- We need to *fix our eyes on Jesus*, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and seek to become more like Him.
