WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: “IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US”
(Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)

SUB-THEME: GOD WITH US IN LIFE’S JOURNEY

TOPIC: When Life Breaks You

TEXTS: Psalm 147:3; Hebrews 8:18

Introduction:
Life may appear to go smoothly, but it is designed with many ups and downs, and often the downs seem more than the ups.

Beloved, has anyone or anything ever broken your heart, leaving you with feelings of rejection, abandonment, betrayal, loneliness, and pain? God is the mender of broken hearts.

Even our Lord Jesus Christ felt this on the cross and cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46). Jesus, at the peak of His suffering, was completely isolated and forsaken by the Father, experiencing the utmost heartbreak so that we would not be rejected by God. He knows what it means to feel rejected and lonely.

Psalm 147:3 (KJV) says: “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

Life can break you through sickness, disappointment, betrayal, bereavement, loss of a job, broken relationships, a crumbled business, or financial crisis, leading to rhetorical questions such as: Why me? Will I ever be the same again? How do I get back up and keep moving?

The answer to these questions is yes. Jesus saves. Jesus heals broken and wounded hearts. He binds up your wounds daily and also heals physical sickness. Look up to Him as your sustainer in whatever life brings.

Romans 8:18 says: “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Beloved, every pain has an expiry date, but glory does not. The coming glory outweighs your present suffering. Be strong.

Summary:
Though life may break you, build on the Word of God and not on the wound.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, heal my broken heart, reverse whatever has broken me in life, and let every scar become a star as I wait for the coming glory. Amen.

SUB-THEME: GOD WITH US IN LIFE'S JOURNEY

TOPIC: Still With Me in Pain

TEXT: Psalm 34:19; 2 Corinthians 4:8–9

Pain is one of life’s most difficult realities. No believer is exempt from seasons of sorrow, disappointment, sickness, loss, betrayal, or hardship. Yet Scripture assures us that suffering is not evidence of God’s absence. David declares in Psalm 34:19 that, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” Paul also affirms in 2 Corinthians 4:8–9 that though we are troubled on every side, we are not crushed or destroyed because God sustains us.

The Christian journey does not remove affliction; it reveals God within it. The righteous still face storms, but they are never alone in them. Joseph was betrayed, Job was stripped of his possessions, and Paul endured constant persecution, yet in each case, God’s presence remained faithful. Pain has a way of pressing us, but it also has a way of refining us. In suffering, God teaches dependence, deepens faith, and strengthens endurance. Sometimes He calms the storm; at other times, He calms His child in the storm. Either way, He is present.

This truth is beautifully echoed in the hymns by Johnson Oatman, Jr. and Horatio Spafford:

> “When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed…”

> “It is well, it is well with my soul.”

Those words were not written in comfort, but in deep personal grief. Yet they testify that even when life is shattered, God remains steadfast. When pain comes, do not withdraw from God. Instead, run to Him in prayer, hold firmly to His Word, and remain connected to the fellowship of believers. Ask not only, “Why is this happening?” but also, “Lord, how are You shaping me through this?” Choose trust over despair, and faith over fear.

What pain am I currently carrying, and have I allowed it to push me away from God instead of drawing me closer to Him? Am I willing to trust that even in silence, God is still working, still present, and still faithful? Today, I will choose to believe that my suffering is not the end of my story.

CONCLUSION:
Suffering is real, but so is God’s presence. You may be pressed but not crushed; wounded, but not abandoned. Like Horatio Spafford, you can still declare in faith, “It is well with my soul,” because God is still with you in the pain.

Prayer:
Lord, in my pain, remain with me always. Strengthen my faith, heal my heart, calm my fears, guide my steps, and sustain me by Your grace each day. Amen.

SUB-THEME: GOD WITH US IN LIFE’S JOURNEY

TOPIC: God in the Waiting Room

TEXTS: Psalm 27:14; Lamentations 3:31-33

Waiting is one of the most uncomfortable activity in human experience. It stretches time, tests patience, and exposes our vulnerability. In a world driven by speed and instant results, the waiting room often feels like a place of silence, uncertainty, and even abandonment. Yet our theme, “Immanuel: God With Us,” reminds us that even here—especially here—God is present.

In Psalm 27:14, we are encouraged: “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” This kind of waiting is not passive or hopeless. It is active trust. It is the decision to remain steadfast, even when answers seem delayed. Waiting becomes a spiritual discipline where God shapes our hearts, teaching us endurance, humility, and deeper reliance on Him.

Lamentations 3:31–33 reassures us that God’s delays are not His rejection: “For no one is cast off by the Lord for ever. Though He brings grief, He will show compassion, so great is His unfailing love.” These words speak directly to the pain of waiting—the moments when prayers seem unanswered and hope feels distant. Yet they also reveal the heart of God: compassionate, faithful, and ever-present. Even when He seems silent, He is never absent.

“God in the waiting room” invites us to see waiting differently. Instead of focusing only on what we are waiting for, we begin to notice how God is working within us. In the stillness, He refines our faith. In the uncertainty, He strengthens our trust. In the delay, He draws us closer to Himself.

Life’s journey will always include seasons of waiting—times of transition, uncertainty, and longing. But the promise of Immanuel assures us that we are never alone in these moments. God sits with us in the waiting room. He walks beside us through every unanswered question and every delayed expectation. And in His presence, we find peace—not because everything is resolved, but because we are held by Him.

Prayer:
Immanuel, help me to trust You in seasons of waiting and to remember that You are always with me. Strengthen my heart and fill me with peace as I rely on Your perfect timing. Amen.

TOPIC: God in the Storm

TEXTS: Mark 4:37–40; Isaiah 43:2

Imagine being on a small fishing boat in the middle of a lake when a sudden storm breaks out. The wind howls, waves crash against the sides, and water begins to fill the boat. The disciples of Jesus found themselves in this very situation in Mark 4:37–40. Fear gripped their hearts as the storm raged, yet Jesus—calm and composed—was asleep. When they cried out, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re perishing?” He arose, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still.” Instantly, the storm ceased. This vivid scene reminds us that even when life’s storms threaten to overwhelm us, God’s presence brings peace and deliverance.

Life’s journey is not always smooth; storms of uncertainty, loss, and pain often arise. Yet Isaiah 43:2 assures us that when we pass through the waters, God is with us; when we walk through fire, we will not be burned. His promise is not the absence of storms but His presence within them. The same voice that calmed the sea still speaks peace into our chaos today.

God’s presence transforms fear into faith. The disciples learned that the storm was not meant to destroy them but to reveal who Jesus truly was—the Lord over all creation. In our own storms, we too discover His power, His faithfulness, and His unwavering love.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being with me through every storm of life. When the winds of fear rise and the waves of trouble surround me, remind me that You are near. Speak peace to my heart and calm to my circumstances. Help me to trust Your presence even when I cannot see the way forward. Strengthen my faith to stand firm, knowing that You are my refuge and my deliverer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Storms are not meant to destroy you; they are designed to reveal the power of the One in your boat.

SUB-THEME: GOD WITH US IN LIFE'S JOURNEY

TOPIC: God in the Good Times

TEXT: Psalm 126:3; James 1:17

Imagine a child receiving a beautifully wrapped gift. In their excitement, they tear it open, delighted by what is inside, and immediately begin to play—forgetting, even if just for a moment, to look up and thank the one who gave it. In much the same way, as we move through life, we often enjoy the good things along the way without pausing to acknowledge the One who walks with us and provides them.

In Psalm 126:3, the psalmist declares, “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” This joy is not accidental; it is evidence of God’s faithful presence, guiding us into seasons of blessing. The good times we experience are not separate from Him—they are part of His work in our lives as He leads us step by step.

Similarly, James 1:17 reminds us that “every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.” Every blessing we receive—whether great or small—is a sign that God is near, actively involved, and caring for us as we journey through life. He is not distant in our moments of joy; He is the very source of them.

It is often easier to recognise God’s presence in difficult seasons because they draw us closer in dependence. Yet, the good times also reveal His kindness and faithfulness. They remind us that we are not walking alone. When we acknowledge Him in these moments, our hearts remain grounded in gratitude, and our relationship with Him grows stronger.

Reflecting on this, we realise that the good times are more than moments to enjoy—they are reminders of God’s nearness and guidance. They assure us that the same God who sustains us in challenges is the One who blesses us with joy. In every step we take, He is present, leading and providing.

Ultimately, the good times call us to remain aware of God’s presence, to give thanks, and to walk closely with Him. In doing so, we learn to see every season as part of a journey shared with a faithful and loving God.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for walking with me and for every good gift You provide. Help me to recognise Your presence in my blessings and remain grateful and humble each day. Amen.
