DIOCESE OF EVO

WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)

SUB-THEME: GOD WITH US IN LIFE'S JOURNEY

TOPIC: Never Alone Again

TEXT: Deuteronomy 31:6–8

A change in leadership often comes with many responsibilities and fears—fear of the unknown, fear of failure, loneliness, rejection, and even abandonment. Moses, having experienced many challenges with the people of Israel in the wilderness, needed to encourage his successor, Joshua. He reassured him of God’s presence, guidance, and companionship as they journeyed toward the Promised Land.

In the same way, we all need encouragement in the midst of life’s challenges—whether health, financial, or emotional struggles. In these days marked by insecurity, fear, and hardship, it is comforting to know that God will never leave us alone. He is constantly at work in our lives, making a way even where there seems to be none, leading us toward His purpose for us.

We do not need to feel God’s presence to be assured that He is with us. What we need is to trust in His promises, which can never fail. God spoke to Joshua through Moses, and He still speaks to us today through His Word in Deuteronomy 31:6, 8:

> “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
> “And the LORD, He it is that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”

As we journey through this year, may we not be discouraged by whatever we go through. Instead, let us put our trust in the One who has promised never to leave us nor forsake us.

As the songwriter reminds us:
“Oh, never alone, oh, never alone;
He promised never to leave me,
Never to leave me alone.”

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your promise never to leave me alone. Help me not to be discouraged, but to depend on You in all the challenges of my life. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)

SUB-THEME: THE GOD WHO COMES NEAR

TOPIC: God Who Walks With People

TEXT: Genesis 3:8; Revelation 21:3

God did not create us for mere religion or empty philosophy; He created us for fellowship. From the very beginning, His desire has been to walk with us, to commune with us, and to dwell among us.

In Genesis 3:8, we see a beautiful picture of God walking in the garden. This reveals His closeness, His accessibility, and His longing for a personal relationship with humanity. Even after Adam and Eve sinned and hid themselves, God still came looking for them. This reminds us that no matter how far we stray, God seeks us first. His love is persistent, and His mercy never fails.

Many times, like Adam and Eve, we hide from God because of guilt, shame, or sin. Yet God continues to call out to us, inviting us back into fellowship. The story of Scripture is the story of a loving Father continually reaching out to restore His relationship with His children.

In Revelation 21:3, we see the glorious fulfilment of this divine plan: God dwelling with His people forever. There will be no more separation, no more sin, and no more distance. His presence will not be occasional but eternal. What a joy to know that God’s ultimate desire is to live with us and walk with us always!

Therefore, Christianity is not just about attending church or observing rituals; it is about daily fellowship with God—walking with Him, hearing His voice, and living in His presence.

You must be intentional about preserving your fellowship with God. Avoid anything that can create a gap between you and Him—such as sin, worldliness, or carelessness. Guard your heart and live in obedience so that nothing disrupts your walk with Him.

Beloved, do not hide from God. No matter your past or present condition, return to Him. He is ready to forgive, cleanse, and restore you. Open your heart and allow Him to walk with you again.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unfailing love and for always seeking me, even when I stray. Lord, I repent of every sin that has created distance between us. Cleanse me and restore my fellowship with You. Help me to walk with You daily and to live a life that pleases You. Let Your presence never depart from me. Draw me closer to You and make my life a reflection of Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)

SUB-THEME: THE GOD WHO COMES NEAR

TOPIC: When Heaven Touched Earth

TEXTS: Luke 2:10–11; Philippians 2:6–8

Introduction:
"When heaven touched earth" is a figurative expression describing the incarnation of Jesus Christ. St Luke describes the atmosphere of His birth: "But the angel said to [the shepherds], 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.'"

The arrival of Jesus was heralded by an angelic announcement, declaring Him the Saviour of the world. When He touched down, there was great joy. The angel proclaimed: "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people" (Luke 2:10). His birth inspired praise and celebration, and it established divine peace: "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased'" (verses 13–14). He came to transform the world for good.

While on earth, He lived an exemplary life of humility. Philippians 2:6–8 says:
"Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!" Jesus Christ is humility personified.

In summary, Jesus Christ touched down on earth to:

* Take away our sins;

* Cast away our fears;

* Give us hope;

* Save us unto eternal life;

* Set an example for us to follow.

If we follow His example, we will never go astray, and we will enter His kingdom at last.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your Son, Jesus Christ, to meet our needs. Help me to live His exemplary life and make it to Your Kingdom at last. In Jesus' name, Amen.

DIOCESE OF EVO

WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)

SUB-THEME: THE GOD WHO COMES NEAR

TOPIC: He Is Not Distant

TEXT: Psalm 145:18; Acts 17:27

Introduction: Our Diocesan theme for the year is “Immanuel: God is with us.” This is a message of hope, assurance, encouragement, and comfort. He was with us yesterday, today, and forever. Those who have learnt to trust in Him have the testimony of His abiding presence.

The Bible says in Psalm 145:18: “The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.” The most critical issue here is believing this Word of God. When we believe it, we can speak about it from personal experience. We can testify that God’s Word is true and that He can never lie. “He is near” simply means that He is with them; He is involved in their affairs. He takes care of all that concerns them and responds to them in their times of need.

However, note that there is a condition attached to that same verse. God is not just near to any random person who calls upon Him. The Bible clearly adds: “to all who call upon Him in truth.” Thus, our Lord Jesus Himself taught that “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). In a time when the Church is filled with hypocrisy and corruption, we are urged to be sincere in our relationship with God. To call upon Him in truth means, among other things, that we have no other god in any form and that we strive to live according to His commandments.

Beloved, what is your relationship with God like? Are you beginning to doubt the reality of His presence because you have allowed other things to encroach upon your relationship with Him? Today God is calling you to retrace your steps. Be faithful to Him. Believe His Word, and He will remain near to you till the end.

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your presence in my life. Help me to overcome anything that seeks to stand between us. Help me to serve You in spirit and in truth all the days of my life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)

SUB-THEME: THE GOD WHO COMES NEAR

TOPIC: From Promise to Presence

TEXTS: Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6

A father teaching his child to swim does not shout instructions from the shore; he steps into the water. The presence of that father calms fear more than their words ever can. The child’s confidence grows, not merely because of a promise of safety, but his father is there.

So it is with the Lord. In the book of Isaiah 7:14, God gives a sign—Immanuel, “God with us.” In the Book of Isaiah 9:6, the promised child is named Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace. What began as a spoken assurance became a living reality. The God who declared His faithfulness did not remain distant; He stepped into the waters of our human condition.

We need to recognise that God’s nearness is personal and transformative. From promise to presence, He walks beside us in uncertainty, strengthens us in weakness, and fills us with peace. We are not left to struggle alone; Immanuel stands with us.

Prayer:
Faithful God, thank You for drawing near to me. Help me to trust not only in Your promises but in Your abiding presence. May I live each day confident that You are with me, guiding and sustaining me. Amen.

WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)

SUB-THEME: THE GOD WHO COMES NEAR

TOPIC: God Moved In

TEXTS: Matthew 1:23; John 1:14

Imagine a powerful king who hears that a family in his kingdom has lost everything in a storm. He could send money. He could send servants. He could send a message of sympathy. Instead, he leaves his palace, travels to their village, and moves into their small home to rebuild their lives with them. He eats at their table, shares their hardship, and helps them start again.

That is the picture of what God has done for us.

Matthew shows us that Jesus is called Immanuel, meaning God with us. This name reveals that in Jesus, God Himself entered human history. He did not merely send guidance or instruction — He came personally. God chose to be present with His people.

John explains this truth from another angle. He teaches that the eternal Word became flesh and lived among us. God took on human nature. He experienced life as we do — with its joys, struggles, and sorrows. His nearness was real and visible.

Together, these passages teach that God moved in. He came close enough to be known. He walked among ordinary people and shared in human life.

This truth changes how we see God. He is not far away or uninterested in our lives. He understands our weaknesses and our pain because He has lived in our world. His presence means we are not alone.

The God who comes near invites us to draw near to Him. He also calls us to reflect His heart by showing love and compassion to others.

God moved in — and because He did, we can know Him personally and walk with confidence in His presence.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for coming near to me.
Help me to trust Your presence and to show Your love to others. Amen.

DIOCESE OF EVO

WEEKLY REFLECTION ON 2026 DIOCESAN THEME: "IMMANUEL: GOD IS WITH US" (Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4)

INTRODUCTORY REFLECTION (4)

TOPIC: Step Forward in the Assurance of God’s Presence

TEXTS: Matthew 1:23; Deuteronomy 31:8; Psalm 23:4

As we journey into 2026, the Word of God places before us one clear and sustaining truth: God is with us.This assurance is not limited to a single moment or circumstance; it runs through God’s promises, God’s presence, and God’s protection throughout our journey of faith.

Matthew 1:23 reveals the heart of this truth in the name Immanuel — God choosing to dwell among His people in the person of Jesus Christ. In Him, God is no longer distant but present, sharing our humanity and walking within our daily lives. This truth calls us to go through the year with trust, knowing that God steps into every season with us.

Deuteronomy 31:8 strengthens this assurance as we face the uncertainties of the future. God promises to go before His people, to remain with them, and never to abandon them. As we step into the unknown paths of this year, this promise calls us to move forward without fear or discouragement, confident that God is already present in what lies ahead.

Psalm 23:4 brings this promise into life’s most difficult moments. David reminds us that even in the valley of the shadow of death, God’s presence dispels fear and sustains the soul. The God who goes before us and dwells among us also walks beside us in our darkest valleys.

Taken together, these scriptures call us to live this year with courage and faith. We are invited to walk forward in obedience, trust, and hope — not because the path will always be easy, but because Immanuel is with us, leading us, sustaining us, and never leaving us.

*Prayer:
Immanuel, our God-with-us,
As we step journey through this year, we place our lives in Your hands.
Go before us in all that lies ahead.
Remain with us in every joy and trial.
Walk with us through every valley.
May we live each day in the confidence
that You are always with us. Amen.
