SCM KOGI EAST

SCM KOGI EAST Both of them were introduced to the SCM while studying in Britain. SCM is not a church but a handmaid of the church.

The SCM of Nigeria was founded in 1940 by Dr. Francis Akanu Ibiam, a one-time Eastern Nigeria Governor and Chief T.O Ejiwumi, a one-time secretary to the western Region. The SCM is not a church but an international youth Outreach Ministry that works amongst students and youth in secondary and tertiary Institutions, building them into responsible citizens and morally disciplined individuals of indi

spensable relevance to the church and society. She is a member of Christian council of Nigeria (CCN) and incorporated with the Federal Ministry of Internal affairs. The SCM works hand in hand with churches in carrying out the Great Commission as given by our Lord Jesus Christ. The name aptly describes the organization VIZ:

STUDENT– draws her members from students in institutions of learning and most national contexts also means students of the Bible (Youth and Adult). It refers to a constituency of persons who are not self-sufficient in knowledge and wisdom, but seeking to be like the Master they have chosen to follow and serve. Students remain her primary focus and try to she strives to uphold their rights, address their welfare and enable them unto leadership roles for church and society. CHRISTIAN– SCM is neither an atheistic nor a social organization. It is not a Christian-related group but a Christian organization. It encourages the exploration of the Bible, sharing and celebration of the diversity of Christian traditions; facilitating spiritual growth and empowering students in their Christian journey. It seeks to build up a balanced Christian identity founded on scriptural/theological basis. MOVEMENT– It is Christ-centered in commitment, secular in outlook, ecumenical in nature and prophetic in life style. It informs the students of the realities of the political situations, seeks new possibilities in their area of education, constantly striving for the renewal of the church, eradication of social vices and crime in our campuses and society at large and moving with the hope of and vision for a world of peace and justice as was revealed in the life of Jesus Christ. SCM is a ministry that hold the Bible on one hand and the newspaper on the other. The Bible represents the word of God and newspaper the society. An SCMer uses the Bible to influence and shape the society for good. What distinguishes the SCM from other ministries is that, whe

"" SERVANTHOOD: THE PATHWAY TO GREATNESS""
Topic: Understanding Servanthood.
Text: John 13:1-9.

Being a servant may entail, doing things that are menial, unnoticed and sometimes not even acknowledged. Sometimes, we serve God by serving others. The world defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, prestige and position. In our self-serving culture ( with it's ' me first' mentality), acting like a servant is not a popular concept.
God however measured greatness in terms of service, not status. God determines your greatness by how many people you serve, not how many people serve you. In the new Testament, there no sidewalks and the street were not paved. People's feet quickly became dirty as they walk about in sandals. The custom was to have a slave wash the feet of guests when they arrived at a person's home. None of the twelve thought it humble to wash the feet of the others, but Jesus rose from the supper and began to wash the disciple's feet, demonstrating to them the real act of severnthood. Not that Jesus did not wash his own feet first but that of his disciples.
What lessons have you learnt from from the action of Jesus in today's study?
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, please give me a heart of s true servant today.
FURTHER STUDIES: 1 Samuel 3:1-10
REFLECTION: We prove our love to God in our relationship with one another.

""FULFILLING YOUR MINISTRY""
TOPIC: AVOID EYE-SERVICE
TEXT: MATTHEW 6:1-6.
1:Take care not to do your good deeds publicly or before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you will have no reward [reserved for and awaiting you] with and from your Father Who is in heaven.
2:Thus, whenever you give to the poor, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites in the synagogues and in the streets like to do, that they may be recognized and honored and praised by men. Truly I tell you, they have their reward in full already.
3:But when you give to charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4:So that your deeds of charity may be in secret; and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you openly.
5:Also when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward in full already.
6:But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open.
In trying to fulfill our ministry, one of the things we have to avoid is seeking to please .an and not God. Often times, the way God sees things is different from the way men do (Isaiah 55:8). All we need is to make sure that God is leading us, and then we go ahead to implement the ideas. When we walk with the sole aim of attracting the praise of men, we miss out the praise of God. The Pharisees were good at this and Jesus sharply rebuked them. We should not fall into the same error with them. The emphasis at all times should be to please God.
PRAYER: Help me dear Lord to seek only to please you in all the labour of my life.
FURTHER STUDY: Matthew 23:5-12.
REFLECTION: Your obligation is to please the one who gave you the ministry.
