*LET US SING TO THE LORD*

*Golden Text:* “Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.”
— Psalm 95:1, NIV

*Text: Psalm 95:1-11*

[1] Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

[2] Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

[3] For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.

[4] In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.

[5] The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

[6] Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

[7] for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice,

[8] “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness,

[9] where your ancestors tested me; they tried me, though they had seen what I did.

[10] For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways.’

[11] So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”

________

In the midst of a bustling street with traffic noise, a man heard a sweet voice singing melodiously.

He could not ignore the sound. On finding the singer, he was surprised to discover he had no legs.

The man told the singer, “Hearing your sweet voice even in this condition has reminded me that I have much to be grateful for.”

The man replied, “When I stopped thinking about what I had lost and began concentrating on all I had left, I found much reason to rejoice.”

The psalmist enjoins us to sing to the Lord. He highlights how and why we should sing to the Lord.

We are to sing joyfully with thanksgiving, music, shouting, and adoration.

We are to sing to the Lord because of His greatness, creative ingenuity, kingship and fatherly love.

God deserves our praise always. We must engage in singing to our God in all circumstances.

We are called to sing to the Lord in clear understanding of His might and majesty, and not from emotions.

As you sing, let your focus be on the Lord who is the object and subject of your songs.

Freely express your heartfelt gratitude to Him after deep reflection on His greatness, goodness, and care. Sing aloud to proclaim the name of the Lord.

*Insight:* Singing is one of the simplest forms of worship.

*Prayer:* Father, fill my heart with songs that honour and glorify You.

*TOPIC:- REJOICE AND BE GLAD*

*GOLDEN TEXT:* "They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty of the Lord." — Jeremiah 31:12a, NIV.

*TEXT: JEREMIAH 31:10-14*

[10] “Hear the word of the Lord, you nations; proclaim it in distant coastlands: ‘He who scattered Israel will gather them and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.’

[11] For the Lord will deliver Jacob and redeem them from the hand of those stronger than they.

[12] They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty of the Lord— the grain, the new wine and the olive oil, the young of the flocks and herds. They will be like a well-watered garden, and they will sorrow no more.

[13] Then young women will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.

[14] I will satisfy the priests with abundance, and my people will be filled with my bounty,” declares the Lord.

Mary Elizabeth Servoss wrote a beautiful and evergreen hymn titled “Be Glad and Rejoice.”

The lyrics of the first stanza and the chorus read: “Be glad and rejoice in the Lord, all ye that are upright in heart; and ye that have made Him your choice, bid sadness and sorrow depart.

Rejoice, rejoice, be glad in the Lord and rejoice; rejoice, rejoice, be glad in the Lord and rejoice.”

Just as Mary’s hymn invites us to rejoice, God assured the Israelites that they would rejoice after years of sorrow in captivity.

The plan to restore and redeem the nation of Israel from the territories of their enemies would elicit joy and gladness.

God also promised to give them victory, protection, and abundance. He said He would turn their mourning to gladness and sorrow to joy.

They will be fully restored and become fruitful again.
God’s plan for us through our salvation in Christ is joy and constant victory.

In salvation, God restores all that we have lost due to our sinfulness and fills us with the joy of salvation. Have you strayed away from the Lord?

God is committed to restoring you and giving you joy. Therefore, repent and commit to living right. God’s joy will fill your soul.

*INSIGHT:* God is the true Source of joy and gladness for those who belong to Him.

*PRAYER:* Father, keep me in Your will so I can always have joy and gladness.

A TIME FOR FEASTING AND JOY

Memory Verse: "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners. But wisdom is proved right by her deeds." Matthew 11:19, NIV

Text: Matthew 11:7-11, 16-19

Matthew 11:7-11, 16-19 NIV
[7] As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

[8] If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces.

[9] Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

[10] This is the one about whom it is written: “ ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’

[11] Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

[16] “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:

[17] “ ‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’

[18] For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’

[19] The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”

________________________________
In the Early Church, believers gathered together to fellowship, break bread, and also pray as a family. Following this pattern, John Wesley instructed the Methodists to hold a love feast twice a year. Feasting has always been a part of Christian gatherings.

In today's text, Jesus confirms the authenticity of John's ministry as a forerunner of the Messiah. He honoured John openly so that all could hear and commended him as a great prophet who lived a life of simplicity despite his influence. Jesus was accused of being gluttonous because He ate and drank in the house of tax collectors who invited Him for a feast, comparing Him with John who lived a life of fasting. He rebuked the people of His generation as people who cannot be pleased. They condemned both John's fasting and His feasting. He concluded by saying that people's actions prove whether they are wise or not. God does not forbid us from eating and drinking as His children, including participating in feasts. What God detests is greed.

As God's children, we must remember that there is time for everything: a time to eat and a time to refrain from food. Food is meant to provide strength. When we cross the boundary from eating for strength to eating solely for pleasure, then we are not wise. Therefore, in your eating, be wise and let God be glorified.

Insight: Feasts should be for the strength and nourishment of the body.

Prayer: Lord, enable me to be wise in my approach towards everything I do.

*ALL RELIGIOUS WORK AND NO PLAY*

*Golden Text:* “Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules.” Colossians 2:20, NIV.

*Colossians 2:16-23*

[16] Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

[17] These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

[18] Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind.

[19] They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

[20] Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules:

[21] “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”?

[22] These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings.

[23] Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

_________

Bill Graham wrote, “Religion is not a set of rules or traditions of men, but the new life in Christ, by which a man is freed from the bo***ge of sin and made a partaker of the divine nature.”

Our text reveals that some Colossian believers were being persuaded to return to some Old Testament religious rituals after their experience of salvation in Christ.

Apostle Paul, however, wrote to remind them of their freedom in Christ, who had paid the ultimate sacrifice and abolished all rituals related to the works of the law. He reiterated that all believers have been freed to follow Jesus rather than rules made by men.

Therefore, they are not bound to religious work but to Christ Himself. Churches today have embraced many religious practices without paying attention to their fellowship with God.

While there is nothing wrong with these religious practices, God is more concerned about our spiritual commitment to Him.The life of believers in Christ is not merely based on keeping rituals.

Christians are in a relationship with Jesus, who is the Head and controls the affairs of the body. The way of Christ is the only way that pleases God and can give us true and lasting pleasure.

Therefore, every Christian must forsake religious work and focus on pleasing Christ. Examine your lifestyle for every religious work and take pleasure in the freedom you now have in Christ.

*Insight:* Religious work without a relationship with Christ is unacceptable to God.

*Prayer:* Lord, help me to focus on my relationship with You with joy and...

*PLAYING CHILDREN SIGNAL GOD’S GRACE*

*Golden Text:* "The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there." — Zechariah 8:5, NIV

*Text: Zechariah 8:1-5*

[1] The word of the Lord Almighty came to me.

[2] This is what the Lord Almighty says: “I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her.”

[3] This is what the Lord says: “I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City, and the mountain of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.”

[4] This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each of them with cane in hand because of their age.

[5] The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.”

_________

After the apartheid ended in South Africa, the previously segregated parks filled with children of different races playing side by side.

It was a refreshing sign of unity. At the 1995 launch of the Children’s Fund, Nelson Mandela commented, “There is no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”
Children are blessings from God to their parents.

The sight of children playing in public is one of the signs that all is well in a community.

In times of war or crisis, children are often unable to play in public.

In the book of Zechariah, when God promised to bless Jerusalem, one of the things He said they would enjoy is that the city’s streets would be filled with playing children.

The blessing of children brings joy and gladness to families and communities.

Children bring joy to the hearts of their parents and anyone who spends time watching them.

Remember to rejoice in God’s grace at work wherever you see children playing.

Are you trusting God for the blessings of children? Wait on Him, for He will surely do as He has promised. His grace will manifest in your life.

*Insight:* God’s grace is manifested in the children He has given to us.

*Prayer:* Lord, I thank You for the gift of children to families.

*CELEBRATE GOD'S BLESSINGS*

*Golden Text:* "The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned, Abraham held a great feast." — Genesis 21:8, NIV

*Text: Genesis 21:1-8*

[1] Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.

[2] Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.

[3] Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him.

[4] When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him.

[5] Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

[6] Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”

[7] And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”

[8] The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast.

Feasting can be a sign of gratitude and a testimony of newness in any sphere of life.

Many cultures have the tradition of celebrating new things with days of feasting, singing, and dancing. These celebrations are not just to gather and enjoy the food.

They are also meant to offer gratitude to the Provider of these blessings.
Abraham had trusted God for a child for many years.

It was a period of hoping and longing. God answered His prayer and he was blessed with a child when he was one hundred years old.

God's benevolence made Sarah laugh after a long period of sadness. She called for everyone to laugh with her as God had brought laughter into her life.

Abraham held a feast to celebrate this great blessing of God after Isaac had been weaned.

God wants us to always appreciate and celebrate His manifold blessings in our lives.

These celebrations show our gratitude to Him and make it known to others that God has indeed done gr
