Topic:YOUR GIFT MUST BE GUARDED
Text: Judges 13–16
Introduction
The story of Samson is a powerful and tragic story in the Bible. Samson was a man greatly used by God, yet his life teaches us that spiritual gifts alone are not enough. A person can be gifted and still fall if discipline, holiness, and wisdom are lacking.
God gave Samson unusual strength, but Samson failed to guard his destiny. His life teaches believers today that every gift from God must be protected.
1. SAMSON WAS A MAN CALLED BY GOD BEFORE BIRTH
Samson’s life was ordained by God before he was born.
The angel announced his birth to Manoah and his wife. Samson was to be a Nazarite from birth, separated unto God for a divine assignment.
Lessons
God has a purpose for every life.
Every child of God carries a destiny.
Spiritual gifts are given for kingdom assignment.
Scripture
Judges 13:5
“For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb…”
2. GREAT GIFTS DO NOT REPLACE GOOD CHARACTER
Samson had great strength, but he lacked self-control.
Many people admire gifts, talents, and power, but God is also interested in character. Samson defeated lions and enemies, yet he could not defeat his own passions.
Lessons
A gifted person without discipline can fall.
Spiritual anointing must be supported with holiness.
Character sustains what gifts can attract.
Jeremiah 1:5
God knows and appoints people before birth, but they must still walk in obedience.
3. DELILAH REPRESENTS DANGEROUS TEMPTATION
Delilah constantly pressured Samson until he revealed the secret of his strength.
Temptation often comes repeatedly and patiently. The enemy looks for weakness and compromise.
Lessons
Not every relationship is safe.
Small compromises lead to destruction.
The enemy studies weaknesses.
Judges 16:16
“And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words…”
Samson was destroyed because he kept playing with temptation.
4. THE HAIR OF SAMSON BEGAN TO GROW AGAIN
Even after failure, God still showed mercy.
Though Samson lost his strength, was captured, and mocked, God gave him another opportunity.
Lessons
Failure is not always the end.
Repentance can restore a person.
God’s mercy is greater than human weakness.
Judges 16:22
“Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again…”
5. SAMSON’S FINAL PRAYER
At the end of his life, Samson cried unto God for strength one more time.
Though he had made many mistakes, he returned to God in humility.
Lessons
Never give up on God.
Genuine repentance brings restoration.
God can still use a broken vessel.
Finish well.
Judges 16:28
“O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me…”
CONCLUSION
Samson’s life is both a warning and a lesson.
He was:
Chosen before birth
Gifted with supernatural strength
Called for a divine purpose
Yet:
He ignored wisdom
Played with temptation
Failed to guard his gift
Believers today must protect their spiritual lives through:
Prayer
Holiness
Discipline
Wisdom
Obedience to God
Your gift must be guarded, because what God has placed inside you is valuable and meant for His glory.
