PRESSING FORWARD TO KNOW CHRIST PERSONALLY
Texts: Phil. 3:7-10 John 4:42
John 14:6-10 Colossians 1:15-20
It will be wrong to assume that everyone in the Church is already a born again child of God, and is on Her way to heaven.
Many of Us are deeply involved in Church activities without personal experience and knowledge of whom Jesus Christ is.
Some may be in the Church because their Parents, Husbands, Wives or Friends come to church.
A Personal knowledge of Christ is very necessary if one must be a
Child of God, it comes by true or genuine repentance.
There are three things that prove repentance
a. Conviction: Repentance comes when one become convinced that he or she is a sinner needing to make peace with God. (Acts 2:34)
b. Godly sorrow: Repentance without Godly sorrow amounts to nothing. Godly sorrow follows conviction by the Holy Spirit which produces repentances. (II Cor. 7:10)
C. A turning away: True repentance produces hatred for sin and a turning away from it to God.
It produces a total turning away from the old and sinful life to a newness of life in Christ (II Cor. 5:17, Isa. 55:7).
1. THE IMPORTANCE OF PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST
a. Peace (II Peter 1:2)
b. Assurance of eternal life
John 3:36, 6:47, 1 John 5:13
c. Antidote to wavering in faith and inconsistency in Christian life. (Eph.4:13-16).
The wavering in faith and inconsistency among Christians today is as a result of lack of personal knowledge of Christ.
d. Basis to overcome temptations (1 John 5:4) The secret of victory over sin is abiding in Christ.
II. INCREASING IN PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST
The believer's knowledge of Christ should grow and increase. Take the following steps to increase in your personal knowledge of Christ.
a. Desire growth in your personal knowledge of Christ. Like Paul, we should desire to increase in our knowledge of Christ's Nature, Character, Power, Love, His
Sacrificial life or suffering. (Phil. 3:7-12).
b. Follow and obey the leading of the Holy Spirit. Rom. 8:14-15, Eph. 4:30, Activity: Invite all who may not have a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ to invite Jesus into their lives. This may include those who may have lost their salvation and are merely coming to Church.
This is one of the important goal to
achieve during this Year's National Women's Week.General Council Assemblies of God Nigeria
