Before the Our Father, the priest introduces the prayer with these words:

The priest then prays the Our Father together with the faithful.

According to the liturgical tradition of the Roman Rite, the priest extends his hands in the ancient prayer posture known as the "orans" position, a gesture that signifies prayer and intercession on behalf of the Church.

This gesture belongs properly to the priest celebrant because he presides over the liturgical assembly in the person of Christ the Head.

The faithful are invited to pray the Our Father together as one family of God.

✝️ 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗗𝗢 𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗦 𝗕𝗔𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗭𝗘 𝗕𝗔𝗕𝗜𝗘𝗦?

Catholics believe that every person is born with Original Sin and is in need of God's saving grace.

Through Baptism, a child is cleansed of Original Sin and becomes a child of God.

Baptism is a gift from God, not a reward earned by human understanding or achievement.

✝️ 𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗕𝗔𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗦𝗠 𝗕𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟?

Scripture records entire households being baptized:

• Acts 16:15
• Acts 16:33
• 1 Corinthians 1:16

While the Bible does not specifically describe an infant baptism, these household baptisms are consistent with the Church's ancient practice.

Jesus Himself said:

"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them." (Mark 10:14)

✝️ 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗧𝗛?

During infant Baptism, parents and godparents profess the faith on behalf of the child.

They promise to raise the child in the Catholic faith until he or she is able to personally embrace and profess that faith.

✝️ 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗧𝗛?

A baby cannot yet make a personal act of faith.

However, God can still act in the child's life through grace.

Just as children receive natural life without asking for it, they can also receive supernatural life through Baptism.

✝️ 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗟𝗬 𝗖𝗛𝗨𝗥𝗖𝗛 𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗩𝗘?

The practice of infant Baptism was affirmed by many early Christians and Church Fathers.

It was not a later invention but part of the Church's ancient tradition handed down from the Apostles.

✝️ 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥

Catholics baptize babies because Baptism is God's gift of grace.

Just as parents provide food, shelter, and education for their children, they also seek to give them the spiritual blessings of new life in Christ.

"Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins." (Acts 2:38)
