Song of Songs 5:1-16MSG
The Groom
1
Iβve come to my garden, dear friend, my bride.
Iβve gathered my myrrh with my spices,
eaten my honeycomb with my honey,
drunk my wine with my milk.
Eat, friends! Drink!
Drink your fill, dear lovers!
The Bride
2
I was asleep, but my heart was awake.
I hear my lover knocking:
βOpen to me, my sister, my dearest.
My head is drenched with dew,
my hair wet with the night mist.β
3
βIβve taken off my dress,
why would I put it on again?
Iβve washed my feet,
why would I dirty them again?β
4
My lover reached through the latch-hole;
my heart pounded.
5
I got up to open to my loverβ
my hands dripping with myrrh,
my fingers with liquid myrrh
on the handles of the lock.
6
I opened to my lover,
but my lover had gone, gone right past.
I went wild looking for him.
I called out, but he didnβt answer.
7
The night watchmen found me
as they patrolled the city.
They beat me, bruised me,
ripped off my shawl,
those guardians of the walls.
8
Oh, women of Jerusalem,
if you meet my lover,
tell him Iβm lovesick.
The Friends
9
Oh, most beautiful among women,
whatβs so special about your lover
that youβd ask us to do that?
The Bride
10
My lover is radiant and robust,
the very picture of health.
He stands out in a crowd of ten thousand.
11
His head is purest gold;
his hair is jet black and wavy.
12
His eyes are doves at a watering pool,
washed in milk, set in a perfect setting.
13
His cheeks are spice beds
that give off fragrance.
His lips are lilies
dripping with liquid myrrh.
14
His arms are rods of gold
inlaid with jewels.
His body is ivory,
polished and gleaming with sapphires.
15
His legs are marble pillars
mounted on golden bases.
Heβs as splendid as Lebanon,
as majestic as cedars.
16
His mouth is sweetness itself.
He is sheer delight.
This is my lover, this is my friend,
oh, women of Jerusalem!
