Elders’ Relaxation Gathering at the Bishop’s Court
_Organized by the Diocesan Women’s Organization_
Today was a day of fellowship, gratitude, and care for the elders from across all archdeaconries gathered at the Bishop’s Court for the “Elders’ Relaxation” program.
We began with an opening prayer, praise, and a homily by the Bishop, centered on *Psalm 91:16* – _“With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”_ The Bishop noted that the Women’s Organization saw it as a point of duty to create this time of relaxation and appreciation for our elders, whose commitment has kept respect, tradition, culture, and the Christian faith alive and growing in our Diocese.
We were honoured to welcome elders from:
Oyi Ayegunle, Ila North East, Otan Ayegbaju, Obaagun, Ila South, Iba, Ora, and Ila Archdeaconries, as well as the Cathedral/Bishop’s Court.
Highlights of the program:
- *Gentle warm-up exercises* – seated, walking and standing sessions that got everyone moving and smiling.
- *Health talk on calcium and healthy ageing* by Mrs. Olaleye:
1. Avoid holding urine to protect kidney health
2. Reduce meat intake; eat more fruits, vegetables, and calcium-rich foods like brisket bone, etc
3. Eat the white of boiled eggs, give out the yolk
4. Choose whole wheat bread to help manage blood sugar
5. Stay active and go for regular medical check-ups
- *Recreational games* – elders enjoyed friendly matches of Ludo and Ayo Olopon.
_Ayo Olopon_: 1st position – Cathedral, 2nd – Adebola Ademowo Chapel Bishop's Court
_Ludo_: 1st position – Ila North East & Ila, 2nd – Ila South & Cathedral.
Congratulations to all our winners and participants for making it lively and memorable.
Key counsel for healthy ageing:
Exercise,
Rest well,
Eat a balanced diet,
Avoid alcohol,
Live at peace and forgive,
Do what brings you joy,
Be moderate,
Keep up with check-ups
And stay prayerful.
We give all glory to God for the grace to witness old age in strength and fellowship. The day ended with dancing, refreshments, and lots of laughter.
Thank you to the Diocesan and Diocesan Women’s Organization President for this thoughtful initiative, and to all our elders for gracing us with your presence.
