CHRISTIANITY – A CALL TO A WALK OF FAITH 1
In the last post we defined faith and highlighted a few things about faith – the gain of faith, evidence of faith, etc. Now, we proceed with the foundational gain of faith which is salvation
Gains of Faith - Salvation
Remember, God has made provision for the salvation of the entire race of Adam through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For it is written:
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Rom.5:6-8
“For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” 1 Cor.15:21-22.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Although provision is made for the salvation of all men, experiencing salvation will require each man believing in, and calling upon Jesus.
“For the scripture said, whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed…For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Rom.10:11-13
However, as cheap, affordable and available salvation is, there is a chain of reactions that will make it a possession of any man.
“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things.’ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah saith, Lord who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Rom.10:14-17
It is obvious from this passage that it is not sufficient for God to make salvation available through the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ. It is also a must for God to raise beautiful feet who go to the mountains, hills, valleys, towns, villages, cities and nations to preach the gospel of Christ so faith can be born in every man to trigger them to call upon Jesus for their salvation.
The good news is God has sent everyone who has benefited from the gift of salvation to be a preacher (proclaimer) of the same to others. That is why the scripture said:
“…. the word is high thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart, that is the word of faith which we preach; that if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made into salvation.” Rom.10:8-10
Peter took up this responsibility of proclaiming the gospel of Christ in Acts 2:1-47 on the day of Pentecost. His unveiling the revelation of God’s salvation plan, implementation and actualization, birthed faith in the hearts of his audience. There was an alteration (change) in the core of their person for the scripture said in verse 37:
“Now when they heard this, they were picked in their heart, and said unto peter and to the rest of the apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do?”
That they were picked in their heart connotes the spiritual virtue called faith was born. A new them emerged. A change took place in their mentality, philosophy, attitude and behaviour towards Christ and towards the gospel of salvation. And their response by reason of faith that was born was: “What shall we do?” Then Peter said unto them:
“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” Acts.2:38, 40-41
You will notice that with the preaching of the gospel of Christ, faith was born in them. A new them emerged as they called upon the name of Jesus. And faith – the offspring of the revelation knowledge of God’s word – made salvation their gain that same moment.
Similar experience was recorded in Acts.8:1, 4-7,14-16 when Philip preached the gospel of Christ to the inhabitants of the city of Samaria. As he, through his preaching, unveiled the essence of Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection, the people gave heed to his message. Faith was born in them and not only were they saved but there was also great joy in the city. Even Simon the sorcerer was not left behind. He was equally saved and delivered from sorcery having believed the gospel of Christ.
The same was true of the Ethiopian eu**ch. Having had his understanding enlightened on the portion of scripture he was reading as he returned from worship in Jerusalem. He also believed, called on the name of the Lord Jesus, and was baptized in the name of the Lord. Acts.8:26-39. See also the experience of the Jailer with his family in Acts.16:25-34. Having witnessed the power of Jesus to deliver miraculously, he and his family believed in Jesus and were saved.
Luke the physician also recorded the story of a woman who he ascertained to be a sinner in Luke 7:36-50 She demonstrated her faith as she washed Jesus’ feet with her tears, wiped them with her hairs, and kissed them. Though the Pharisees despised her action but Jesus declared unto her:
“Thy sins are forgiven; thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace” verses 48 and 50.
In conclusion, the initial response to the call of God to every man to walk with Him by faith is to believe in Jesus for salvation. He is not yet a Christian whosoever has not had a different perspective concerning Christ’s suffering and resurrection that caused him or her to believe in his/her heart that God raised Him from the dead and call on Him for salvation. If you fall into that category, I present you with the gospel of Christ. Be ye reconciled to God! 2 Cor.5:20. Let faith be born in you as you call upon the Lord and have the dividend of salvation accrued unto you. Be ye converted friend! You must turn away from your sin. That is repentance! You must turn to God through Christ by faith. That is saving faith! Then and only then can the spiritual virtue of faith that is born in you on account of your revelation knowledge of God’s salvation plan, implementation and actualization, result into your salvation. Pray to God! Call on Him and be saved.
If you, reading this magazine is already a believer, I congratulate you because that is the greatest achievement any man can make in this world. However, I challenge you not to break the chain of reaction that result into birthing saving faith in others. You have been sent to preach the gospel! Yours are beautiful feet upon the mountain! Go, therefore, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere that salvation is available to all in Christ Jesus; and accessible by faith in the heart and a confession from the mouth. If you are not generous with this message in your circle of influence, you are a wicked believer; an unprofitable servant at that. Repent! Take responsibility! Preach the gospel in season and out of season so faith can be born in many for the salvation of their souls. Jesus is Lord!
