PRAYER OF FAITH (12)
James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Vs 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
James says “the prayer of faith shall save the sick…”
We saw in Mark 11:23 and 24, that when we pray, we believe that we receive…
There is therefore an underlying principle we need to pay attention to.
Note again:
“What things so ever you expect when you pray, believe that you receive...
Is it possible to pray without an expectation?
If prayer automatically means expectation then Jesus will not mention expectation.
. When you pray believe that you receive (that is “expectation”) and you shall have....
. Believe that you receive what things so ever you expect, and you shall have what things so ever that you expect.
You will have what so ever you desire when you pray.
Recall that prayer involves receiving and receiving is a part of prayer. Then it implies that receiving in prayer is different from having the request that was prayed for.
Hence Jesus clearly states in Mark 11:24….what things so ever you desire, when you pray believe that you receive then you shall have.
From Jesus’ words, receiving is when we pray, while having what we Asked for is afterwards. Therefore receiving in prayer is what James calls the prayer of faith.
In reference to Mark’s account, note that Jesus’ audience were not “sons of God”. Sonship was only possible upon the resurrection.
Hebrews 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
The book of Mark just like Matthew, Luke and John were written for men to believe and receive life (John 20:20-31).
That’s why in Mark 11:23, Jesus said, “if you have faith.”
However the attitude of “the prayer of faith was well communicated.” Today, the believer is not to be asked to have faith, he has faith already, having believed the Gospel. He now has a responsibility to use his faith.
Confession:
I choose to act out who I am. What thing so ever I desire, when I pray, I believe I received and I have. Therefore I pray with full assurance of hope knowing fully well that God gives when I ask.
