OBEDIENCE IS THE KEY.
Do you remember that man called Uzzah in the Bible?
The poor noble fellow that died because he touched the Ark of the Covenant. On the surface, it looks unfair, after all, he was only trying to help.
The oxen stumbled, the ark looked like it was about to fall, and Uzzah thought was like, “oboy, let me just steady this thing before it embarrasses us in this public.” Noble intention, right? But God struck him down instantly. Why? Because God had already given clear instructions: “Nobody should touch the ark.”
The lesson is very clear, God is not only interested in our “good heart” or our “good intentions,” He is interested in obedience.
Sometimes we Nigerians like to say, “God sees my heart.” True, He does, but He also sees whether your feet are walking in the direction of His instructions.
This is why Scripture says, “Obedience is better than sacrifice.” You may bring the fattest ram to the altar, but if God said, “Don’t touch that ark,” and you go ahead and touch it, the ram cannot save you. It will just be baa-ing( no be small thing oooo) in the background as heaven enforces the rule.
So, let’s be honest, many times, we want to play the role of Uzzah. We want to “help God.”
We say things like, “Lord, don’t worry, I’ve got this part figured out.” Meanwhile, God is saying, “What I want is not your cleverness; what I want is your obedience.”
The truth is, obedience may not always look as dramatic as sacrifice. Sacrifice feels heavy, visible, and praiseworthy, people will clap for you. But obedience is simple, sometimes hidden, and often quiet. Yet in heaven’s economy, obedience weighs more.
So, before you stretch your hand like Uzzah, pause and ask: “Did God send me this one wey I dey do, or am I acting on my own?” Because at the end of the day, obedience saves, while disobedience, even with good intentions, can destroy.
It's long, but it's worth it.
Happy weekend
