*The Basic Law of the Temple*

*Text:* Ezekiel 43:10-17
43:10 Thou son of man, shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern. 43:11 And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them. 43:12 This is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house. 43:13 And these are the measures of the altar after the cubits: The cubit is a cubit and an hand breadth; even the bottom shall be a cubit, and the breadth a cubit, and the border thereof by the edge thereof round about shall be a span: and this shall be the higher place of the altar. 43:14 And from the bottom upon the ground even to the lower settle shall be two cubits, and the breadth one cubit; and from the lesser settle even to the greater settle shall be four cubits, and the breadth one cubit. 43:15 So the altar shall be four cubits; and from the altar and upward shall be four horns. 43:16 And the altar shall be twelve cubits long, twelve broad, square in the four squares thereof. 43:17 And the settle shall be fourteen cubits long and fourteen broad in the four squares thereof; and the border about it shall be half a cubit; and the bottom thereof shall be a cubit about; and his stairs shall look toward the east.

*Text:* Colossians 2: 8-15
2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

*Memory Verse:*
1 Corinthians 13: 11
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

*Brief Commentary*
One of the immature traits of children is that they are easily swayed. They tend to believe anything someone tells them. The same thing happens to babies in Christ; they are easily carried away by all kind of doctrines (v 8). If we abide in Christ we will gradually be growing up unto maturity in Christ (v.10). There should be progress in our lives (v.13). Once we were sinners, but when we met Christ, our lives start an upward progression, though the growth was gradual, it was sure and steadfast. Our Christian journey and progress should be evidently progressive, that way, we would no longer be tossed to and fro like babies. We should eagerly desire the sincere milk (and of course solid food) of the word of God so that we can grow by it and enter into Christian maturity. We should not let the world push us anyhow anymore, we should stand up and grow up.

*Declaration*
*We are growing from strength to strength and progressing foward to maturity, we will no longer be tossed to and fro like little babies.*

*Prayer:*
Lord help us to grow up into the full statue of the Image of Christ.

*Developing the Right Motive*

*Text:* Colossians 2:1-7
2:1 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2:2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 2:3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 2:4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. 2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

*Memory Verse:*
Proverbs 16:2
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

*Brief Commentary*
People have different motives for everything they do. In our passage today, the Apostle Paul explained that he is going through a lot of struggles for the sake of the brethren (v.1), and his motive for all the struggles he undergoes firstly, for their hearts to be encouraged; secondly, for them to be united (v.2), and thirdly, for them to know their position in Christ (v.3). He also desires for them to be firm in their faith (v.4).Often times, people do things for selfish reasons. The Bible encourages us in Romans 12:9 that our love should be sincere and without any string attached. We should give to people, pray with them and render any form of service to them with sincere hearts and not because there is a benefit we long to get. We need to learn to treat others as Jesus would treat them; out of love and compassion. The world cannot offer help with immoral demands but that is the difference. If those we refer to as Christians engage in immoral demands for the help they render, then the motive for such help is not right but evil.

*Declaration:*
*We are children of God. We love as God loves and behave as God instructs. We are motivated by the love of God in all that we do and our motives are always right*

*Prayers:*
Lord, Let Your Love be shed abroad in our hearts so that we can have God's kind of love.

*The Reward of Following Jesus*

*Text* Mark 10 :23-31
10:23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 10:24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 10:25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 10:26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? 10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. 10:28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, 10:30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 10:31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

*Memory Verse:*
Psalms 103: 2
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

*Brief Commentary*
When the disciples of Jesus heard Jesus’ response to the rich man, they were amazed and wandered who will be able to make heaven (vv.24-26).
Peter said to Jesus ‘we have left everything to follow you’ (v.28), in response jesus answered them saying anyone who leaves anything for His sake will receive tremendous blessing in this age (alongside persecution) and in the life to come, eternal life (v.30). It is very evident that we cannot serve God in vain. Sometimes people look at us and wonder what we are still doing in Christianity. It seems as if we are just wasting our times serving God. We may look around and wonder like Peter, that those who are not committed to God seem to be doing better than us. But Jesus is saying to us today, that we have rewards here and in the life here after. Let us cheer up then for God is not unjust to forget all our labors of love (Hebrew 6:10), and like Frank Bottome (1888 -1960) wrote in one of his songs, ‘it pays to serve Jesus....” Keep Serving Jesus, there is no loss doing so.

*Declaration:*
*We are God's children and must go with God at any length no matter the roughness of the road; we will keep serving Jesus.*

*Prayer:*
Lord, help us to keep serving You till the end of our times here on earth. we will never be discouraged serving You.

*Text:* Mark 10:17-22
10:17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 10:18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. 10:19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. 10:20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. 10:22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

*Memory Verse:*
Mark 10:17
And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

*Brief Commentary*
A man met Jesus during one of Jesus’ Mission trip, he asked the Lord what to do to inherit eternal life (v.17). Remember that morality is not a substitute for divine acceptance (v.20). No matter how moral we are, it is when we experience salvation by accepting Jesus as Lord and savior that we can be accepted by God (John 1:12, 3:5). Despite the fact that this man has kept the law and morally good (v.20), but still lack something vital. and that ts salvation (v.21). Many people today in Church think that they are saved because they give arms or money to church projects, some equate salvation with being baptized or regular church attendance, while others see popularity in Church or leadership positions as ways for divine acceptance. But even if we are the founders or founding members of any local assembly, as good as these things are, if we have not experience Jesus in our lives individually, we will not inherit God's kingdom. If we have not made our ways right with God yet, we can do so right now.

*Declaration:*
*We trust Jesus alone for our salvation not our good works Jesus alone is the way to God and we will not trade Him for the world*

*Prayer:*

our salvation.

*Memory Verse:*
Philippians 2:6
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

*Brief Commentary*
Our reading today shows some parents bringing their children to Jesus, so he would lay His hands on them and bless them (v.10), but the disciples of Jesus tried to stop them (v.13). This shows that those parents understood the need to dedicate their children to God and seek God's blessing over them. Jesus shows His displeasure over their attitude (v.14) and taught that humility is a vital character for believers and a great factor that gives us access into God's kingdom (v.15). Jesus did not consider His God-nature as too high for children but took the children into His arms and blessed them (v.16). What an example for us to follow. Today, people have allowed the social status or achievements go into their heads; and they feel too important to associate with men of low esteem. Let us learn humility from the master Himself. In God's eyes, we are all His creatures and He does not discriminate. Humility opens many doors for us and it is a Christian virtue to be emulated. It is when we humble ourselves that God lifts us up.

*Declaration:*
*The spirit of the Lord God is in us to enable us live like Jesus. We will not proud and arrogant in life but humble and wise*

*Text:* Mark 10:1-12
10:1 And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again. 10:2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. 10:3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? 10:4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. 10:5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 10:7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; 10:8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. 10:9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 10:10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. 10:11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. 10:12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

*Memory Verse:*
Malachi 2:16
For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

*Brief Commentary*
The Marriage institution is as old as the human race and this institution i came along with its own Challenges. One of the controversial issues about marriage in the Christendom today is the matter of Divorce. Jesus was asked by the men of his days if it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife (v 2). Jesus asked them what the law says and they said Moses had commanded for a certificate of divorce (v.4). But Jesus told them, it was because of the hardness of their hearts that Moses said so but from the beginning, it was not so (vv.5-6). God has answers for all of human questions; in Malachi 2:16, He clearly said, ‘I hate divorce’. Jesus went on to explain how serious this matter is before God. Today, many Christian couples are threatened with divorce as their only option, while others though not official divorced are already separated but still living together. Chnstianity is built on the foundation of love and forgiveness. If we allow God's kind of love in our lives, there will be nothing too difficult to talk over and get over. Love is the centre not just of marital relationships but all relationships.

*Declaration:*
*We declare that as children of God, we will always forgive every hurt as God forgave us and love others as God loves us*

*Prayer:*
Lord, help us to keep our marital vows and help us to build and sustain our homes under Christ alone.

*Text:* Ecclesiastes 7:11-19
7:11 Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun. 7:12 For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it. 7:13 Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he hath made crooked? 7:14 In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him. 7:15 All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness. 7:16 Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself ? 7:17 Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time? 7:18 It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all. 7:19 Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city.

*Memory Verse:*
James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

*Brief Commentary*
Knowing the right thing to do at the right time is very vital in life. It is said that wisdom is the correct application of knowledge. Wisdom has many benefits; it is a shelter or defense (vv.11-12). The effect of wisdom is compared with the effect of money, for wisdom Preserve the life of those who possess it (v.12). Wisdom is displayed in the way we speak and interact with others. It is seen in the choices we make in life. It is seen in how we treat people and even in the way we reason. Christians should operate higher level of wisdom because the Spirit of God lives in us. By studying God's words and following His instructions, we open up ourselves to the leading of the Spirit; and the results of this will invariably show in our daily activities. Let us choose to be led by God every day.

*Declaration:*

*Brief Commentary*
Like a work place where everyone has an assigned duty post. In the passage before us today, we see the different assignments given to some people (vv 23 -26). About eight of them were assigned to various duty posts. It reminds us of Apostle Paul exhortation that to each of us, grace has been and that the body is made up of different and unique parts (Romans 12:5) In the same way, believers are assigned different responsibilities in the body of Christ. It is expected in stewardship that we be faithful (1 Corinthians 4 :2). Have you located your place in the body of Christ? Are you grateful in the position God kept you, or are you comparing yourself with others and becoming envious of them? Let us find our places today and stay where he keeps us. We must be up and doing so that when the Master comes he will find us faithfully doing our works at our duty posts.

*Text:* 2 Samuel 20:11-22
20:11 And one of Joab's men stood by him, and said, He that favoureth Joab, and he that is for David, let him go after Joab. 20:12 And Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a cloth upon him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still. 20:13 When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri. 20:14 And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Bethmaachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him. 20:15 And they came and besieged him in Abel of Bethmaachah, and they cast up a bank against the city, and it stood in the trench: and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down. 20:16 Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee. 20:17 And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do hear. 20:18 Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter. 20:19 I am one of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD? 20:20 And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy. 20:21 The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall. 20:22 Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab. And he blew a trumpet, and they retired from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

*Memory Verse:*
James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

*Brief Commentary*
After the death of Amasa, the pursuit of Sheba continued (vv.11,13) Sheba ran, passing through many lands until he entered the city of Abe Beth Maacah to take refuge (vv. 14-15), so Joab and his men surrounded the city to destroy it (v.14). In the mist of all these, a wise woman came out to talk with Joab (vv. 16-21), as a result, the army stopped and she threw the head of Sheba over to Joab (w.21-22). Her wise words saved her city from destruction (v.22).Our words can build or destroy a city. Let us trust God to operate in wisdom and cause our words to be filled with grace (Colossians 4:6). Like the wise woman of Abel Beth, let our use of words aim at saving others and bringing glory to God. We need to trust God to operate in the wisdom in every facet of our lives.

20:1 And there happened to be there a man of Belial, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew a trumpet, and said, We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel. 20:2 So every man of Israel went up from after David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from Jordan even to Jerusalem. 20:3 And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood. 20:4 Then said the king to Amasa, Assemble me the men of Judah within three days, and be thou here present. 20:5 So Amasa went to assemble the men of Judah: but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him. 20:6 And David said to Abishai, Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape us. 20:7 And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri. 20:8 When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa went before them. And Joab's garment that he had put on was girded unto him, and upon it a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out. 20:9 And Joab said to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him. 20:10 But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

*Memory Verse:*
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

*Brief Commentary*
Absalom had been defeated but the trouble was not yet over for King David (v.1). The men of Judah had spoken harshly to the men of Israel over the processes of the king's return (ch 19:43). This Led to a rebellion that was instigated by Sheba who led all the men of Israel away from the king. Upon arriving at his palace, the king summoned Amasa to gather the men of Judah, So as to handle the issue of Sheba (v.4). Due to Amasa’'s delay, Abishai was asked to lead the Army and pursue Sheba before he caused more harm for them (v.7), Joab and his men also went along. But when Joab and Amasa met somewhere on the way, Amasa was stabbed to death (v 9) because it was Amasa who was appointed to replaced Joab. The bitterness it generated was not settled and it led to the death of Amasa. In life we must settle things properly with those we have offended or hurt before it degenerates. When we overcome a temptation today, we must still be on our guards against the next ones, but God will surely grant us victory over all the evil plans of the wicked.

If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; 58:10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day: 58:11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. 58:12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

*Memory Verse:*
Matthew 3:10
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

*Brief Commentary*
In continuation from yesterday devotion, the Lord reveals to His people in this passage that the key to having our light breaking forth, our healings, springing forth, our righteousness shooting forth and our glory spreading forth (v.8), is taking away the yoke of bitterness, the pointing of fingers, and the speaking of wickedness, which is gossiping and backbiting (v 9): but extending our souls to the hungry and satisfying those afflicted (v.10): so shall our prayers be answered (v.9). As we decide daily to walk on this secret path, our darkness will be replaced by divine light, our diseases by divine health, our lack by divine provision, our weaknesses by strength, our uncertainty by divine clarity and direction, our reproaches by honor, and our downfalls by divine elevation (vv.10-14). No matter how long we have waited, let us hold fast unto this revealed truth. Remember seasons of waiting are not times of neglect but of preparation. God is working behind the scenes and His floodgates will surely open over us.
