Chief of Army Staff sir with due respect begging will not fix this.

I have watched Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede and Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu moving from Umuahia to Amasiri Edda begging parents and traditional rulers to send their children to the Army. In my opinion this begging is an insult to the intelligence of the Southeast.

You said Southeast is not filling its quota. Yes. Out of thousands of slots only 123 came from Southeast. In Ebonyi out of over 300 slots only 75 applied. You had to build a new depot in Amasiri Edda in November 2025 just to attract them. But they still refused.

Do you know why

One RETIRED SOLDIERS ARE SUFFERING AND EVERYBODY IS SEEING IT
I am not saying Southeast should not join Army but look at the shameful example being displayed.

Men who gave 15 to 35 years of their lives to Nigeria are now begging at the Federal Ministry of Finance for pension. December 2024 they shut down the ministry. January 2025 they came back with chairs and canopies. August 2025 about 1000 soldiers barricaded the same ministry again.

One retired Corporal said after 15 years he got less than 3 million naira gratuity. Less than 3 million for 15 years of carrying gun and sleeping in the bush.

In my opinion if a young man in Nnewi or Aba sees a retired soldier who cannot even afford daily food after serving Nigeria how will he join. In my opinion you are asking him to become the next beggar in Abuja.

Two IN MY OPINION THE STRONG PERCEPTION IS SOUTHEAST YOUTHS ARE POSTED TO DIE FIRST
In my opinion this is the perception you have not addressed. Many Southeast youths believe once they join they will be posted straight to Borno Yobe and Taraba for ten years to face bandits with better weapons while others stay in comfortable barracks. Whether this perception is true or not you have not addressed it. You just beg.

Three IN MY OPINION THE POLICY OF INTEGRATING REPENTANT BOKO HARAM KILLS TRUST
In my opinion how can the system integrate repentant Boko Haram into the same Army and expect an Igbo youth to wear the same uniform with them. In my opinion it is unacceptable. In my opinion it kills morale and trust.

Four POOR PAY POOR BARRACKS POOR LIFE
In my opinion the salary is nothing. The barracks is eyesore. A trader in Onitsha Main Market makes more in a month than a soldier risking his life. The youths are ambitious. They want global standard not suffering and smiling.

Five TRUST DEFICIT IS ZERO
In my opinion there is deep mistrust from the civil war till today plus the recent security operations in the Southeast. In my opinion an Igbo soldier today feels targeted at the frontline and also targeted at home by unknown gunmen. Double risk double fear.

So sir stop begging. Fix the Army.

In my opinion fix pension so no veteran will ever protest again to eat. Improve salary and accommodation. Make deployment fair and transparent. Stop celebrating repentant terrorists while real soldiers suffer.

Southeast youths are not cowards. They are not lazy. In my opinion they are simply saying we will not join an institution that does not value us. In my opinion that is not lack of patriotism that is wisdom.

If you want them to join show them that Nigeria values them. If you fix the institution the enlistment will come automatically.

This is my personal opinion and I stand on it.
