DAY 9
NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Theme: SELF-CONTROL
CONCLUSION OF THE NOVENA
Speaker: Rev. Samuel Boniface C.S.Sp.
⸻
Opening Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit,
Spirit of Wisdom, Discipline, and Holiness,
as we conclude this novena,
we surrender our hearts completely to You.
For nine days we have prayed for the fruits of the Spirit.
We have asked You to fill us with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness.
Today, Lord, we ask for the grace of self-control,
the strength to govern our desires, emotions, thoughts, words, and actions according to Your will.
Holy Spirit,
the human heart is often restless and weak.
Many people struggle silently with anger, lust, addiction, unhealthy desires, uncontrolled speech, envy, pride, and habits that slowly destroy the soul.
Some fight secret battles nobody knows about.
Some are exhausted from repeating the same sins.
Some desire holiness but feel trapped by weakness and temptation.
Holy Spirit, do not abandon us in our struggles.
Give us mastery over ourselves.
Teach us discipline in prayer.
Discipline in speech.
Discipline in relationships.
Discipline in the use of money, pleasure, power, and influence.
Teach us to pause before speaking in anger.
Teach us to walk away from temptation.
Teach us to reject whatever destroys our dignity as children of God.
Holy Spirit,
we live in a world that glorifies excess and encourages people to follow every impulse without restraint.
But You call us to holiness and freedom.
Give us the courage to say no to sin and yes to God.
Teach young people purity and wisdom.
Teach families moderation and understanding.
Teach priests and religious fidelity and discipline of heart.
Holy Spirit,
when our emotions become overwhelming,
help us remain calm.
When temptation becomes strong,
strengthen our resolve.
When we fall,
give us the humility to rise again and continue the journey.
As we conclude this novena,
do not allow these prayers to end as mere words.
Let there be true conversion in our lives.
Renew our hearts.
Renew our families.
Renew our communities.
Renew Your Church.
May the fruits of the Holy Spirit grow within us daily,
so that our lives may bear witness to Christ in the world.
Holy Spirit, remain with us always.
Guide us.
Protect us.
Strengthen us.
Lead us finally to eternal life.
Fill us with the fruit of SELF-CONTROL,
that we may live holy, disciplined, and Spirit-filled lives.
Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of Your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of Your love.
Send forth Your Spirit
and they shall be created.
And You shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God,
who instructed the hearts of the faithful
by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant us by the same Spirit
to be truly wise
and ever rejoice in His consolation.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
