TOPIC: "WHY I BELIEVE"

In The Second Coming of Christ

Bible passage: Matthew 24:30-33

INTRODUCTION
Another fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith is the second coming of Christ...

That Jesus will literally one day return
To usher in a series of events that will transform our existence.

This "second coming" is not to be confused with other "comings" of the Lord...

The Scriptures speak of more than one "coming" or "day" of the Lord.

In the OT, God came in judgment against various nations
Jesus also spoke of more than one "day" - cf. Lk 17:22.

One such "day" was His coming in judgment on Jerusalem in 70 A.D., as foretold in His Olivet Discourse - cf. Mt 24, Mk 13, Lk 21.

This "second coming" will be...
At the "last day"
At the end of time as we know it
The beginning of a totally new existence that will last for eternity
[Why do I believe in the second coming of Christ? First, there is...]

I. THE PROMISE OF HIS COMING
BY JESUS HIMSELF...
At the last supper, before His arrest and crucifixion - Jn 14:1-3.

Comforting His disciples with the promise of His return
BY HIS ANGELS...
When Jesus ascended into heaven - Ac 1:9-11.

The "two men...in white apparel"
Who said, "This same Jesus, who was taken up from into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven."

A. BY HIS APOSTLES...
Peter, in his second recorded sermon - Ac 3:19-21.

B. Paul, in writing to...
The Corinthians - 1 Co 11:26; 15:22-23.

C. The Thessalonians - 1 Th 1:9-10; 2:19; 3:13.

D. The young evangelist, Timothy - 2 Ti 4:1.

E. The writer to the Hebrews - He 9:27-28.

[As I believe in Jesus and His apostles, I believe in their promises. Besides the promise of His coming, there is also...]

II. THE PURPOSE OF HIS COMING
TO RAISE THE DEAD...
A. Both the righteous and wicked dead - Jn 5:28-29.

Note there is but one resurrection, including both good and evil, that will occur at one time ("the hour")

As Paul said, "there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust" - Ac 24:15.

Those who are alive at the Lord's coming...
Will be changed in the twinkling of an eye, clothed with immortality and incorruption - 1 Co 15:50-54.

Then "caught up...to meet the Lord in the air." - 1 Th 4:16-18.

III. TO DELIVER THE KINGDOM TO GOD...
When all are made alive at His coming - 1 Co 15:22-24.

Contrary to the view that Jesus has yet to establish His kingdom on earth, He has been ruling over His kingdom since He first ascended to heaven!
In fulfillment of the prophecy that God would raise up the Christ to sit on the throne of David, Jesus was raised from the dead and made "Lord" - Ac 2:30-36.

All authority has been given unto Him - Mt 28:18; Ep 1:20-22; 1 Pe 3:22.

Christians are said to be "in" His kingdom - Co 1:13; Re 1:9.

Christ will continue to reign "till He has put all enemies under His feet" - 1 Co 15:25.

Note that His reign will be concurrent with the fact enemies are still present
As prophesied by the Psalmist: "Rule in the midst of Your enemies!" - Psa 110:1-2.

Thus Christ is now "the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of Lords" - 1 Ti 6:15; cf. Re 19:16.

And He will reign "till He has put all enemies under His feet" - 1 Co 15:25.

The last enemy that will be destroyed is death itself - cf. 1 Co 15:26.

Which we have seen will be destroyed at the coming of the Lord when He will raise the dead - 1 Co 15:51-54.

So when He comes, it will not be to "set up", but to "deliver up" His kingdom!
As Paul clearly told the Corinthians - 1 Co 15:23-26.

As taught by Jesus in His Parable of the Tares - Mt 13:36-43
His kingdom will last until "the end of this age"

After which "the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father" (i.e., the heavenly kingdom)

IV. TO JUDGE THE WORLD AND PUNISH EVIL...
God has appointed "a day" in which He will judge the world - 2 Pe 3:7.

The one appointed to be the Judge is Jesus Christ - Ac 17:31; 2 Co 5:10.

The standard by which He will judge will be the words He has spoken - Jn 12:48.

It will be a day of perdition (utter destruction) of ungodly men - 2 Pe 3:7.

Those who know not God and have not obeyed the gospel will be punished with "everlasting destruction" - 2 Th 1:7-10.

Those whose names are not in the "Book of Life" will be cast into the "lake of fire" - Re 20:11-15

V. TO USHER IN THE "NEW HEAVENS AND NEW EARTH"...
As taught by Peter - 2 Pe 3:10-14.

This will follow the "passing away" of the present heavens and earth.

In fulfillment of God's promise - cf. Isa 65:17-19; 66:22-23

Something we are to "look for"
It will be a realm where righteousness dwells, therefore the need for us to be found "in peace, without spot and blameless" when Christ returns
As taught by John - Re 21:1-22:5

It will follow after the first heaven and first earth have "passed away" - cf. Re 20:11

It will be the place where the "New Jerusalem" will abide when it "comes down out of heaven" - cf. Re 3:10c; 21:10

God will dwell with us in this "New Jerusalem" that has "come down out of heaven"

CONCLUSION
If there will not be a second coming, then there will not be...
A resurrection of the dead.

A transfer of Christ's kingdom to the heavenly kingdom.

A judgment of the world and subsequent punishment of evil.

A new heavens and new earth, in which righteousness dwells
If there will not be a second coming, then Christians are to be pitied...

For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen - *1 Co 15:16.*

And if Christ is not risen, our faith is futile and we are still in our sins - *1 Co 15:17.*

Those who have died in Christ have perished - *1 Co 15:18*

If in this life only we have hope, we are of all men the most pitiable - 1 Co 15:19

But we can have confidence in the second coming of Christ...
a. If we believe there is a God
b. If we believe the Bible is the Word of God
c. If we believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. That Jesus has not yet come is only an indication of God's long-suffering (2 Pe 3:8-9). But rest assured, as promised that "day" will come!

In the meantime, what should be our attitude be toward the coming of our Lord?

One of prayerful preparation - Lk 21:34-36; 2 Pe 3:14
One of joyful expectation - Php 3:20-21
One of patient endurance - He 10:35-39

Is that your attitude...?

STUBBORN WOMEN ARE ALWAYS FAILURES!

Stubborn women fail in their marriages, and even in their relationships with relatives.

Women who lack emotional intelligence and flexibility in dealing with people around them, are the biggest failures in their marriages and their lives. Why?

She enters into an egoistic tug of war with her husband, and prefers the voice of her ego to try to overcome him, and in fact she fails before the ego of her husband and the ego of those who are around her, because men become more stubborn in front of a stubborn wife and stubborn sister, and they become more gentle in front of a submissive woman.

A headstrong woman thinks that she can win while insisting on her opinion, and she can stand in front of any opposition. She forgets that even if she wins by her obstinacy in her opinion and stand, she loses the heart that was loving her and caring for her.

Many narrations and wise proverbs in all the cultures have praised an easy-going, soft, friendly, patient and enduring woman. Even the Messenger (peace and blessings be on him) and the Companions after him, recommended and praised a woman who respects her husband and speaks with softness and wisdom, and in turn he will love her and never leave her.

The woman who will obey her husband and stoop to let the storm pass; she is the wise, rational woman who thrives, and holds the family together. The woman who stands like an unyielding dry stick is the one who breaks, suffering irreparable damage.

The uncompromising woman clings to her opinion. She tries to constantly perpetuate the illusion of her victory: I win and you lose, I am right and you are wrong. Such a woman destroys herself before destroying others. And she lives a life of sorrowful despondency in this world and the hereafter.

From my experiences in marital counseling, I found that mulish women end up in divorce. And bitterly fail in their family and social life. The even end up destroying her own father family and his siblings'

The advice of a bedouin Arab woman to her daughter on the day of her marriage, is considered by all the successful women the best advice for a woman. She said:
"Be his slave......and surely he becomes your imminent slave".
"Men are kind, generous and benevolent, but a stubborn, foolish woman turns them into enemies."

Finally I quote a wise Sheikh (may God have mercy on him):

I was a civil court judge for 27 years.........and I found that most of the divorce incidents are caused by the anger of a man, and by the foolish responses of a woman.
In other words, the stubbornness of a woman makes a man ten times more stubborn than her.

Well, in these days of feminism and female affirmative action, l find that the perceptions young women have about what should be their relationship with their spouses is seriously blighted by ego and impatience. They are not willing to work on their inherent flaws and feel the man should be the one to adjust to their own idiosyncrasies. I personally think the above tips works and any woman who wants to make a success of her marriage will do well to follow them.

TOPIC: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BAPTISM.

"DEAD TO SIN, ALIVE TO GOD"

Bible Passage: Romans Chapter Six (6)

OBJECTIVES IN STUDYING THIS CHAPTER
1. To understand what takes place in baptism.
2. To appreciate the freedom from sin which we may now enjoy in Christ through baptism.

In the gospel of Mark 16:15-16 Jesus gave the great commission to the disciples to;
"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and baptized will be saved; but he that believeth not shall be condemned".
When we submit to baptism, God does His work in saving us! - Co 2:11-13

To emphasize this, he reminds them of their baptism into Christ, in which they experienced a burial into the death of Christ and rose to walk in newness of life, having died to sin (3-7). Dead to sin, they are now free to live as instruments of righteousness for God (8-14).
‎
‎1. In baptism we were buried into Christ's death (3-4a)
‎2. We should walk in newness of life, having been united together in the likeness of His death, crucified with Him, no longer slaves of sin, but freed from sin (4b-7)
‎
‎DEAD TO SIN, ALIVE TO GOD (8-14)
‎1. Having died with Christ, we may live with Him over Whom death has no dominion (8-10)
‎2. Alive to God, we should not let sin reign in our bodies (11-12)
‎3. But rather present our bodies as instruments of righteousness, for we are under grace (13-14)
‎
‎WORDS TO PONDER

‎A. baptism - from the Greek word "baptizo" meaning to "immerse", it most commonly in the New Testament refers to the burial in water in the name of Jesus for the remission of our sins
‎
‎B. sanctification - the process of "sanctifying" or "setting apart for a devoted purpose"; in the New Testament it begins with baptism and continues on as we grow in Christ.

Conclusion:
Jesus made clear what He wanted people to do (believe and be baptized). He also made clear what would happen if we did not: "He who does not believe will be condemned."

Therefore Christianity.........

UNDERSTANDING TIMES AND SEASONS; PERHAPS DAYS AND SEASONS CHANGES AND ARE NOT EQUAL, NEITHER THE SAME.

Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1

The Bible mentions that God determined our preappointed times for in Him we live and move and have our being. For us then to be successful in living, and moving according to the will and plan of God for our lives, we have to understand the God ordained times and seasons.

In Daniel 2:21 the Bible says that “God changes the times and the seasons…”

If God ordained the times and the seasons and changes them, then it befits us to find out from Him what season we are living in and what we ought to be doing in every season.

Furthermore, The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1 That “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” If there is a time and a season for everything under the sun, then our current situation represents a particular time and season for you and I in God’s spiritual calendar. It is therefore our responsibility to find out by praying and seeking His face, what He is saying for this this our current situation and rising up to do it according to His will.

In Luke 19:44 we hear the Lord say how disaster and great tribulation would come upon a nation because they did not know the season of their visitation.

HOW WE SHOW OUR LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER...

Topic: "Be Your Brother's Keeper"
Text: John 13:34-35.
Lesson: Our Responsibility to One Another in Christ.

How we show our love for one another?
1. Being Your Brother's Keeper;
2. Caring for One Another;
3. We must be willing to bear one another's burdens- Ga 6:1-2;
Fulfilling the love we have in Christ Jesus.

Brethren few points listed below are some of our responsibilities towards each other in Christ.
a. We are to "receive one another" - Ro 15:7
b. We are to "edify another" - Ro 14:19b
c. We are to "bear one another's burdens" - Ga 6:1-2
d. We are to be "forgiving one another" - Ep 4:32
e. We are to be "submitting to one another" - Ep 5:21
f. We are to "exhort one another" - He 3:12-13
g. We are to "consider one another" - He 10:24-25
h. We are to be "hospitable to one another" - 1Pe 4:8-10

In conclusion, caring and sharing with One Another brings unity and togetherness.
Perhaps, in togetherness we stand and therefore survive as children of God.
May the Lord God Almighty bless us all as we exhibit our love towards each other, and agreed to "Be Our Brother's Keeper" to the glory of God. Amen!

Shalom Peace!!!
