Their Actions Raise Concerns About Their Commitment To Islam.
Leadership carries responsibility. When a body, (the league of imams and Alfas) claims to represent Islam in Yorubaland, its actions must reflect protection, development, and sincere service to the Muslim Ummah. Unfortunately, many concerned Muslims today are questioning whether this established group is truly advancing Islam or unintentionally working against its progress.
From past decades to the present, Yoruba Muslims have faced serious challenges. In universities, colleges of education, and secondary schools, Muslim students have struggled against hijab discrimination and institutional marginalization. During many of these defining moments, where was the organized, visible, strategic response? Where were the legal interventions, the structured advocacy, and the united defense of Muslim rights?
For over six decades of existence, what comprehensive agenda has been implemented for Islamic development in Yorubaland? Growth requires vision, planning, and measurable impaIsl, not mere historical presence.
In communities where Muslims face discrimination, what proactive roles have been played? Silence in times of oppression weakens trust. Absence during critical moments raises important questions.
Even more troubling is the perception that energy has sometimes been directed toward internal attacks on Muslims and divisive rhetoric rather than constructive development. Islam teaches unity, wisdom, and respect especially toward the noble companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Any approach that fuels division instead of strengthening the Ummah demands sincere reassessment.
Beyond emotional debates, let us ask practical questions: Politically, what strategic influence has been built to protect Yoruba Muslims? Economically, what empowerment systems have been established? Educationally, how many professionals, doctors, lawyers, engineers, academics have been intentionally nurtured and mobilized to serve Islam?
What lasting Islamic institutions, schools, foundations, or development structures stand today as evidence of visionary leadership?
These are not questions of hostility. They are questions of accountability.
When a structure becomes weak and unable to address contemporary realities, wisdom calls for reform. No responsible community continues to manage a dilapidated building when it is on the verge of collapse. Preservation without renewal leads to stagnation.
The future of Yoruba Muslims cannot be left to chance. Our youth need direction. Our institutions need modernization. Our scholars need strategic platforms. Our communities need purposeful unity rooted in action, not mere slogans.
This moment calls for courage, the courage to reform, to rethink, and to rebuild. We need Strategic Islamic leadership, Educational advancement programs, Economic empowerment initiatives, Legal and political advocacy structures, Strong institutions that will outlive individuals. Above all, we need a genuine Islamic revival grounded in knowledge, unity, accountability, and sincere commitment to Allah.
The time for a new path is now. A path of reform. A path of renewal. A path that secures the dignity and future of Islam in Yorubaland.
