The Lord said of His Church: "I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." This is said of the pastors of the Church, or the Church hierarchy, and of all true believers, as well as of all the sacraments, all the dogmas and commandments of the Holy Orthodox Faith, and of all the offices of the sacraments; for instance, the Liturgy, Holy Orders/Ordination, Matrimony, Baptism, Chrism, Holy Oil, which have been established unto all the ages, and have already been in existence unchanged during many centuries. See how firm is the Church, founded by the Lord! Remember these words of the Lord, and do not waver in the slightest degree when celebrating any of the sacraments. Be firm as adamant.

To those that have sinned after holy Baptism the only remaining hope is true repentance. Glory to God for that! Glory to God, that we have not yet perished, O sinners! A hope yet remains. God's compassions have not yet come to an end. Repentance is still preached to sinners. The poor are still given glad tidings. The Heavenly King still proclaims His mercy everywhere. The doors of compassion are not yet shut. The grace of God is still open to all. The Gospel and the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world are still preached. The Kingdom of God is still proclaimed.

NATIVITY OF THE HOLY GLORIOUS PROPHET, FORERUNNER AND BAPTIST, JOHN

July 7 / June 24


The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist celebrates the birth of John, the forerunner of Jesus Christ. His parents, Zachariah and Elizabeth, were elderly and had no children. An angel appeared to Zachariah and told him they would have a son who would prepare people for the coming of the Messiah. When Zachariah doubted, he lost his ability to speak until the child was born.

Elizabeth later gave birth to John, and on the eighth day he was officially named John, just as the angel had instructed. At that moment, Zachariah regained his speech and praised God.

After Jesus was born, King Herod ordered the killing of infant boys. Elizabeth fled with John into the wilderness for safety, while Zachariah was killed in the Temple. John grew up in the wilderness under God's protection and later became the prophet who prepared the way for Christ and baptized Him.
