TOPIC: A RESTORER OF THE BREACH
TEXT: Isaiah 58:12; Nehemiah 2:13–18; Luke 10:30–37
A restorer of the breach is a person who sees what is broken, identifies what is failing, and takes responsibility to repair it.
A restorer does not close his eyes to problems. He pays attention to what is not working properly—in the society, in the family, in the church, in the unit he serves, and in the body of Christ.
A restorer does not run away from challenges. A restorer repairs. A restorer rebuilds. A restorer takes responsibility.
When your children begin to depart from the ways of the Lord, do not give up on them. Keep encouraging them. Keep praying for them. Keep standing in faith for their restoration.
1. A Restorer Sees What Others Ignore
Nehemiah saw the broken walls and burnt gates of Jerusalem. He did not pretend that everything was fine.
In Nehemiah 2:13–18, Nehemiah inspected the broken walls, identified the problem, and challenged the people to rebuild.
Despite opposition from Sanballat and Tobiah, the people strengthened their hands for the good work.
A restorer does not allow opposition to terminate an assignment.
When you see something broken, ask God what He wants you to do about it.
2. A Restorer Takes Responsibility
The work of God must not be left to the founder or pastor alone.
Let the women rise. Let the men rise. Let the youth rise. Let every member rise.
The church has responsibilities that require everyone's participation.
Do not always wait for someone else to do what God has placed within your capacity to do.
A restorer says:
“If I can help, I will help. If I can repair it, I will repair it. If I can build it, I will build it.”
3. A Restorer Builds for the Next Generation
A restorer does not only think about today.
He thinks about those who will come after him.
He repairs foundations so that the next generation can stand safely.
Therefore, build your life on the sure foundation of Jesus Christ.
Build your marriage on Christ.
Build your family on Christ.
Build your ministry on Christ.
Build your character on Christ.
A weak foundation cannot carry a strong structure.
Jesus Christ is the foundation that can sustain your life, your family, your marriage, and the generations that come after you.
4. A Restorer Is Compassionate
In Luke 10:30–37, Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan.
The wounded man was lying helpless, but the Samaritan did not walk past him.
He stopped, he showed compassion, he treated his wounds, he carried him, he paid for his care.
That is the heart of a restorer.
A restorer does not only identify people's wounds. He gets involved in their healing.
There are people around you who need encouragement, prayer, correction, support, and compassion.
Do not pass them by.
5. Biblical Examples of Restorers
Ruth
Ruth became part of God's redemptive plan through her relationship with Boaz. Their union became part of the lineage that eventually produced David and ultimately Jesus Christ.
Her story teaches us that one person's faithfulness can become part of a blessing that reaches generations.
Jesus Christ—The Great Restorer
Jesus is the greatest Restorer of the breach.
Sin separated humanity from God, but Christ came to reconcile us to the Father.
Through His death and resurrection, He redeemed us and restored our fellowship with God.
The barrier has been removed.
The way into God's presence has been opened.
Jesus restores what sin destroyed.
6. Examine Your Life
As a restorer of the breach, ask yourself:
What needs restoration in my family?
What needs restoration in my marriage?
What needs restoration in my spiritual life?
What responsibility have I abandoned?
What is broken around me that I have refused to address?
What is standing between me and God?
This morning, God is calling us to rise.
1. Do not run from the broken places.
2. Do not abandon the work because of opposition.
3. Do not leave every responsibility for someone else.
4. Rise and rebuild.
5. Build upon Jesus Christ.
6. Repair what is broken.
7. Strengthen what is weak.
8. Restore what has been damaged.
9. Stand in the gap for your family.
10. Stand in the gap for the church.
11. Stand in the gap for the next generation.
When you build on Christ, your life becomes a testimony of restoration.
Prayer:
MAY GOD REOPEN EVERY GOOD DOOR THAT HAS BEEN SHUT AGAINST YOU IN THIS CONVENTION, IN JESUS NAME.
