RIGHTEOUS GIVING: A BRIEF SERMON ANALYSIS
HOSEA 10:12-15, 2ND CORINTHIANS 9:1-10
HALLELUYAH!
Paul was very worried about the collection for the hungry saints in Jerusalem. He began the project not only out of fondness for his own people but also to encourage and promote unity within the Church of Christ. The gospel's transforming power is evident in how it erases the stark differences between the rich and the poor and between Jews and Gentiles, the privileged and the underprivileged, affirming Christ's all-encompassing nature.
To Paul, giving money is like sowing seeds. Whatever is put in the collection box will definitely come back to the giver with a large increase. Therefore, Christians should give willingly, generously, and with spontaneity. They should not give reluctantly or out of obligation. Giving should be like that of a farmer who does not hesitate to put his hand deep into his granary with the expectation that any extra grain scattered will come back to him thirty or even a hundred times more. Every coin given with a pure heart will come back to us someday.
Therefore, the first lesson teaches us to sow in righteousness to reap mercy. We should not give up but continue to break fallow ground until God comes to rain His righteousness upon us. This clearly indicates that the reward of righteousness may not come immediately but surely and abundantly.
Let us not become tired of doing good; for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest. So then, as often as we have the chance, we should do good to EVERYONE.
Some of the indications of righteous giving include:
1. Believers Must Practice Giving as a Spiritual Discipline.
2. Believers Must Guard Against Wrong Motives in Their Giving.
3. Believers Must Pursue God’s Reward for Selfless Giving.
In conclusion
As the year ends, let's think about how we can always give right. Giving is more than just money - using our spiritual gifts, knowledge, time, experience, connections, and resources to help others is also a way of giving. Don't be disheartened by the world's selfishness and greed. Even if the whole world disappoints God, you can be one of the few souls that He will delight in. When God rewards you, you'll be happy that you followed His principles.
Prayer:
Almighty Father, renew my mind to be a righteous giver so that I can reap mercy and enjoy the abundant showers of the rewards of righteousness, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Stay blessed eternally!10TH DECEMBER, 2023
