WHO IS YOUR FOCUS?

MEMORISE

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (Hebrews 12: 1).

READ
Luke 15:11-24

[11]. Then He said: “A certain man had two sons.

[12]. And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood.

[13]. And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living.

[14]. But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want.

[15]. Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

[16]. And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.

[17]. “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

[18]. I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,

[19]. and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’

[20]. “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

[21]. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

[22]. “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

[23]. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us

BECOMING MORE LIKE CHRIST JESUS (IV)

MEMORISE

"So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed" (Luke 5:16).

READ
Luke 4:16-21

[16]. So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

[17]. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

[18]. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;

[19]. To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

[20]. Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.

[21]. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

EXPOSITION

To be successful in iife and ministry, you must prioritise prayer and study, just like Jesus did. Whether you are a church member, worker, or minister, your personal prayer and study life are essential for your success. Jesus used to talk to His Father through prayer, even though He and His Father are one. He teaches us that prayer is key to communicate with God (Matt 6:5-8; 7: 7-8). During His time on earth, He used to intercede for others (Matt 19:13; Jn. 17:9). He prayed with others (Lk. 9: 28), and prayed alone (Matt. 14:23; Mk 1: 35; 6:46). He prayed before making major decisions (Lk 6:12), and so on. The principle about the Christian life is simple: little prayer; little power; more prayer; more power (Eph. 6: 10-12).

Jesus quoted from the Old Testament often and often. When the devil showed up to tempt Him, He quoted the Scripture to defeat him (Matt. 4:1-11). Lack of Scripture and its knowledge make Christians to be easily defeated by the devil and quickly become victims of their circumstances. Do you read your Bible everyday? Jesus learned a lot about the Old Testament from the Synagogue and from the wisdom that God had bestowed upon Him. Jesus was a lover of the Scripture since His childhood (Lk 2:42-49). We need to be conversant with our Master, Jesus. If you read and understand the Scripture, men and the devil will no longer take advantage of your ignorance (Eph. 4:14).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, let it be easy for me to read and meditate on Your Word everyday.

2. Lord, let there be revival of the Word and prayer in our churches as of old.

3. Pray for CAC Music Department, the Director and the staff as led by the Spirit of God.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY
CAC GHB: 568

1. What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs' to bear
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations!
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness:
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care
Precious Saviour, still our refuge
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He'll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Amen.

BECOMING MORE LIKE CHRIST JESUS (1)

MEMORISE

Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered (Hebrews 5:8).

READ
John 8:28-32

[28]. Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

[29]. And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”

[30]. As He spoke these words, many believed in Him.

[31]. Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.

[32]. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

EXPOSITION

God's ultimate goal for our lives as Christians is to become more Iike Jesus. It is the highest calling of Christianity. When He was about to finish His earthly ministry. He instructed His disciples: _Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations..._ (Matt. 28:19). The ultimate plan of God for His children is to conform to the image of His only begotten Son (Lk 6:40; Rom. 8:29; 2 Cor 3.18). God wants us to develop all of Christ's traits. Our call is to follow Jesus footsteps (lifestyle; way of doing things). Mention some personality traits of Jesus in the Bible. Which of them do you practice accordingly? We need an understanding of these traits of our Lord Jesus. The first to be discussed among His characteristics is obedience

Jesus Himself says, _For I have come down from heaven, not to do My will but the will of Him who sent me_ (Jn. 6: 38). No wonder He became obedient to the point of death, even a painful and shameful death (Php 2:7). As the obedient Son of God, He chose to do the will of His Father (Jn: 8:29. 5.30). When the going was tough for Him in the Garden of Gethsemane, He preferred God's will to its own personal will (Lk. 22:42). To become more like Jesus, you must learn the way of obedience. If it is difficult for you to obey the simple divine instructions/directives in the Bible, you are not a genuine disciple of Jesus (Jn. 8.311). Henceforth, seek to do His will always.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, give my inner man the capacity to become more like Jesus Christ in my thoughts, words and actions, in Jesus' name.

2. Father, make it easy for me to do Your will at all times.

3. Pray to God to allow the spirit of obedience permeate the hearts of all our children.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY
CAC GHB: 524

1. I want to be like Jesus,
So lowly and so meek,
For no one marked an angry word
That ever heard Him speak.

2. I want to be like Jesus,
So frequently in prayer;
Alone upon the mountain-top,
He met His Father there.

3. I want to be like Jesus,
I never, never find
That He, though persecuted, was
To any one unkind.

4. I want to be like Jesus,
Engaged in doing good,
So that of me it may be said,
"She hath done what she could."

5. I want to be like Jesus,
Who sweetly said to all,
"Let little children come to Me."
I would obey the call.

6. But oh, I'm not like Jesus,
As any one may see;
Then, gentle Saviour, send Thy Grace,
And make me like to Thee.

Amen.
