PLACING THE NAME OF THE LORD UPON YOUR CHILDREN
Texts:
Numbers 6:22–27
Philippians 2:9–11
Proverbs 18:10
Acts 4:12
INTRODUCTION
Placing the Name of the Lord upon your children—and upon everything that belongs to you—is a divine responsibility with powerful spiritual implications.
Numbers 6:27 declares:
“And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.”
This means that when God’s Name is placed upon a person, they carry His identity, His authority, and His covenant blessings.
Everything answers to the name by which it is called. Therefore, the name you place on your children matters, because names are not ordinary—they are spiritual carriers.
When God instructed Aaron to place His Name upon the children of Israel, He was revealing that whatever He is, He will become to them.
Exodus 3:14–15
“I AM THAT I AM…”
God is:
Jehovah Jireh – The Lord will provide (Genesis 22:14)
Jehovah Rapha – The Lord our healer (Exodus 15:26)
Jehovah Nissi – The Lord our banner (Exodus 17:15)
Jehovah Shalom – The Lord our peace (Judges 6:24)
When you place His Name upon your children, you are invoking His nature over their lives.
THE MYSTERY OF NAMES
1. Everything Has a Name
Genesis 2:19–20
God brought all creatures to Adam to see what he would call them, and whatever Adam called them, that became their name.
This reveals that:
Naming is a spiritual authority
Names define identity, function, and destiny
Everything was named by man, except man, who was named by God. This shows that man’s highest identity comes from God Himself.
2. There Is a Spirit Behind Every Name
Every name carries:
Meaning
Nature
Spiritual influence
Proverbs 18:10
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
The Name of the Lord is:
A place of safety
A spiritual covering
A divine identity
3. The Name of Jesus Is Above All Names
Philippians 2:9–11
Acts 4:12
The Name of Jesus carries ultimate authority. When you place the Name of the Lord upon your children:
You place them above principalities and powers
You connect them to divine authority
You establish them in victory
WHY YOU MUST PLACE GOD’S NAME UPON YOUR CHILDREN
1. For Divine Recognition and Identity
Just like every genuine product carries the name of its maker, your children must carry the mark of their Maker.
It is a sign of:
Ownership
Distinction
Covenant
2. For Honor and Supernatural Distinction
Isaiah 8:18
“I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders…”
They will carry favor and divine recognition wherever they go.
3. For Protection Against Evil
Numbers 23:23
“No enchantment… no divination…”
When God’s Name is upon your children:
Evil words cannot prevail
Enchantments are neutralized
Spiritual attacks are rejected
4. For Freedom from Condemnation
Romans 8:1
“There is therefore now no condemnation…”
They will walk in righteousness and operate in grace.
HOW TO MAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD ACTIVE IN YOUR CHILDREN
1. Teach Them to Depart from Iniquity
2 Timothy 2:19
Sin weakens spiritual identity, but righteousness strengthens divine covering.
2. Teach Them to Run to God
Proverbs 18:10
They must learn to depend on God, not man.
A man who runs to God becomes a refuge to others.
3. Teach Them Their Identity in God
1 Peter 2:9
They must know they belong to God and are not ordinary.
4. Teach Them Not to Fear
Isaiah 41:10
When a child understands that God’s Name is upon them:
Fear disappears
Boldness arises
Confidence in God is established
CONCLUSION
The Name of the Lord is not just something to mention—it is a seal, an identity, and a covering.
When you intentionally place God’s Name upon your children, you secure their destiny, establish their identity, and activate divine backing over their lives.
Ensure your children carry God’s Name in their lifestyle, character, and identity.
