1. The Church is the BODY; ministry is the SERVICE/FUNCTION within the body

The church is the collective body of believers belonging to Christ.

> 1 Corinthians 12:27 — “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”

But ministry refers to the various services and functions God gives within that body.

> Ephesians 4:11–12 — “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.”

Difference:

Church = the body/community of believers.

Ministry = the work or service performed for God and His people.

A person can therefore be part of the church without holding a particular ministry office, while ministries exist to serve and build up the church

2. The Church belongs to Christ; ministry is an assignment entrusted by Christ

Jesus said:

> Matthew 16:18 — “I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Notice that Jesus said “my church.” The Church belongs to Christ.

But ministry is something God gives or entrusts to people for a purpose.

> 1 Corinthians 4:1–2 — “Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

Also:

> Colossians 1:25 — “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you…”

Difference:

The Church is Christ's possession.

Ministry is God's stewardship/assignment given to His servants.

Therefore, no minister should treat the church as his personal property, because Christ said, “I will build my church.” A minister is a servant and steward, not the owner.

In one sentence

The Church is the people/body of Christ; ministry is the God-given service and assignment through which Christ's body is built, equipped, and served.

This distinction is especially important in church leadership because the ministry exists to serve the Church—not the Church to serve the ego of the minister.

DESTROYING EVIL VEILS II

Text: 2 Corinthians 3:13–16; Matthew 27:51–53

Introduction

A veil is something that covers, hides, or prevents a person from seeing clearly. Spiritually, an evil veil can represent anything that prevents a person from seeing and understanding the truth of God.

1. The Veil Can Cover Spiritual Understanding

Paul explained that Moses put a veil over his face, and that the same veil can represent spiritual blindness when people hear the Word without understanding its true meaning.

> “But their minds were blinded…” — 2 Corinthians 3:14

A person can be physically present in church, hear the Word, and still have a veil over his understanding.

Prayer: Lord, remove every veil that is preventing me from understanding Your Word.

2. Christ Is the One Who Removes the Veil

Paul says:

> “Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.” — 2 Corinthians 3:16

The answer to spiritual blindness is not more human tradition, religion, or philosophy. The veil is removed when we turn to Christ.

When Christ becomes the centre, we begin to see God's Word more clearly.

3. The Veil Was Torn Through the Death of Christ

Matthew 27:51 says:

> “And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom…”

This is powerful. The veil was torn from the top to the bottom, showing that God Himself opened the way.

The death of Jesus removed the barrier that stood between God and humanity. Through Christ, we now have access to God.

Hebrews 10:19–20 connects this access with the flesh of Jesus.

4. The Veil Represents the Old Barrier

The temple veil separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. Under the old covenant, access was restricted.

But when Jesus died, the veil was torn.

This declares:

NO MORE DISTANCE.
NO MORE OLD BARRIER.
NO MORE RELIGIOUS VEIL.
CHRIST HAS OPENED THE WAY.

5. We Must Not Rebuild What Christ Has Torn Down

One of the dangers in the church is allowing human traditions, religious systems, fear, condemnation, and wrong interpretations of Scripture to become new veils over people's understanding.

Christ tore the veil; therefore, we should not put another veil back over God's people.

Conclusion

The purpose of destroying evil veils is not to destroy people, but to remove whatever prevents people from seeing Christ, understanding His Word, and approaching God freely.

CEREMONIAL PRACTICES, TRADITIONS AND CHRISTIAN DRESSING

INTRODUCTION

It is very important for the Church to continually examine its doctrines, traditions, and practices in the light of the Word of God.

Not every tradition is wrong, and not every church practice is sinful. However, any tradition that contradicts the Word of God, replaces the Word of God, or becomes a means of condemning and judging God's people must be carefully examined.

Jesus strongly warned against traditions that can make the Word of God ineffective.

Matthew 15:6:

«“Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.”»

Therefore, one question should continually guide the Church:

“Is this clearly taught by Scripture, or is it a human tradition or local church practice?”

The Church must never elevate human tradition above the authority of God's Word.

1. DOCTRINES AND TRADITIONS PRODUCE DIFFERENT FRUITS

There are traditions and teachings that can produce:

- Idolatry
- Hatred
- Mockery
- Murder
- Witchcraft
- Greed
- Hypocrisy
- Self-righteousness
- Pride
- Religious competition
- Pretence
- Judgmentalism
- Division
- dolatry

When teachings and traditions produce these kinds of fruits, they must be examined carefully.

On the other hand, sound biblical teaching should produce:

- Faith in Christ
- Love
- Holiness
- Righteousness
- Humility
- Obedience
- Mercy
- Truth
- Dedication
- Spiritual maturity
- Love for believers
- Love for the truth
- Christ-like character
- Transgenerational believers

Jesus said:

Matthew 7:16:

«“Ye shall know them by their fruits.”»

Therefore, we must examine not only what we teach, but also what our teaching produces in the lives of believers.

2. THE CHURCH MUST BE BUILT ON CHRIST AND HIS WORD

Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Church.

1 Corinthians 3:11:

«“For no other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”»

Our Lord Jesus Christ came into the world, called and trained His disciples, and entrusted them with the Gospel. The disciples became apostles who carried the Gospel to the nations and taught the doctrines of Christ.

The early Church continued in the apostles' doctrine.

Acts 2:42:

«“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship...”»

Therefore, any Church that desires to remain spiritually strong and transgenerational must build its doctrine, traditions, and practices upon the Word of God.

A Church may have traditions and practices, but those traditions must serve the Word rather than replace the Word.

The broader biblical teaching can be summarized in these principles:

1. MODESTY

1 Timothy 2:9

Dress modestly and appropriately.

2. HOLINESS

1 Peter 1:15–16

Let our lifestyle reflect God's holiness.

3.SELF-CONTROL

1 Timothy 2:9

Do not dress primarily for vanity, seduction, or inappropriate attention.

GENDER DISTINCTION

Deuteronomy 22:5

Do not deliberately erase the distinction between male and female.

4.CHRISTIAN CHARACTER

1 Peter 3:3–4

Inner character is more important than outward appearance.

5. GLORIFYING GOD

1 Corinthians 6:20

Our bodies and appearance should honour God.

6. LOVE AND CONSIDERATION

Romans 14:13

Do not use Christian liberty in a way that unnecessarily becomes a stumbling block to others.

CONCLUSION

The Church must continually return to the Word of God.

Our traditions and practices must serve the Word, not replace the Word.

We should never use Church traditions to condemn sincere believers over matters where Scripture gives room for conscience, wisdom, and cultural application.

At the same time, Christian liberty must never become an excuse for immodesty, sensuality, pride, or ungodliness.

THE GOAL OF CHRISTIANITY IS NOT TO PRODUCE PEOPLE WHO SIMPLY DRESS LIKE CHRISTIANS; IT IS TO PRODUCE PEOPLE WHO LIVE LIKE CHRIST.

Christ must be seen not only in what we wear, but in how we live, how we love, how we speak, how we treat others, how we obey God, and how we represent Him before the world.
