FAITH SUSTAINS VIRTUES

Dearest friends,

Thomas à Kempis was actually right when he affirmed that: ‘What one is at the beginning of one's conversion, is not often what one remains at the end of one's profession.' indeed, quite often, there is this INITIAL zeal and dedication that seem to be abandoned after some time. While the above could be noticed in different areas of life, it seems to be more obvious in our Christian Vocation. Just think about the ZEAL you had when you receive the Baptism (for those who were baptized as adults), the ZEAL associated with your First Holy Communion and Confirmation. What about the ZEAL when you were newly ordained priest or when you were newly wedded? Is that ZEAL still in you?

Well, it is actually only those who would remain steadfast in VIRTUE till the end that would eventually be SAVED (cf. Matt 24:13). Thus, it is very important to always RENEW our ZEAL and DEDICATION in our Christian journey; in obeying God's Commandments; in upholding a life of virtue. The above is only possible through FAITH. Thus, a life of virtue seems to be abandoned when Faith begins to dry up. Thus, the Scripture affirms: “Without FAITH, it is impossible to please God" (cf. Heb 11:6).

However, we cannot really claim to be men and women of Faith when our lifestyles do not conform to VIRTUES rooted in the obedience of the Commandments of God. Thus, the Catechism affirms: *“The prayer of FAITH consists not only in saying "Lord, Lord," but in disposing the heart to do the WILL of the Father"* (cf. CCC n. 2611). While God is always happy when we approach Him with Faith, He is not happy with us when we live a faithless life. Thus, the Catechism teaches: “Jesus is as saddened by the "lack of faith" of his own neighbors and the "little faith" of his own disciples as he is struck with admiration at the great faith of the Roman centurion and the Canaanite woman" (cf. CCC n. 2610, Matt 8:10; 15:28).

Beloved friends, are there some virtues you have abandoned to join the WORLD? Please, go back to those virtues and remain steadfast, for God rewards those who keep FAITH till the end🙏🏼

We pray the Blessed Virgin Mary to always support us with her powerful intercession. Amen🙏🏼

HAPPY SOLEMNITY OF ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY INTO HEAVEN

THEME: A WELL DESERVED HONOUR

Greetings beloved people of God, and welcome to "My Catholic Homily Digest". On this Fifteenth day of August, the Saturday of the Nineteenth week of Ordinary Time, in which the church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven, I wish to reflect with you on the theme: " *A Well Deserved Honour*" Beloved in Christ, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM), which we celebrate today, is not merely a teaching, it is a dogmatic pronouncement. Now, a Dogma is an official statement or teaching of the Catholic Church, which bothers on the revealed truth about our Faith and Morals, which is proclaimed by the Magisterium, that is, the teaching authority of the Church. And once a Dogma has been proclaimed, it is _ipso facto_ binding on all Catholics. Although, the dogma on the Assumption of Mary into heaven was pronounced a dogmatic teaching of the Church on November 1, 1950, by the Apostolic Constitution of Pope Pius XII, Munificentissimus Deus, it has been a common belief which is thoroughly rooted in the minds of the faithful, and already celebrated in ecclesiastical worship from the most remote times. The dogma states that: “Mary, the Immaculate Mother of God and ever Virgin, after finishing the course of her life on earth, was taken up body and soul to heaven.”

The Assumption of Mary is not a lone dogma, it follows and flows necessarily from the wprevious three other Marian dogmas. In the Immaculate Conception, Mary was conceived without the stain of sin and so preserved from original sin by the singular grace of Christ's Redemption which acted in retrospect upon her. In the Perpetual Virginity, Mary conceived and brought forth her first born Son, Jesus Christ, who is both her God and her saviour, without any injury to her Virginity, and she remained a virgin all through her life. In the Theotokos (Mary, Mother of God), she became the Mother of God because Jesus Christ, who is truly her Son is also truly God, equal to the Father and the Holy Spirit. However, Mary's Motherhood is not to the God-head. Therefore, the Assumption of Mary into heaven is not an arbitrary teaching or belief of the Church, but one which is fitting to her whom God has honoured with such favours and graces above all created beings.

Child of God, the Assumption of Mary, gives us the assurance that the human body is not sinful in itself again, since it has been sanctified by the resurrection of Jesus. So like Mary who has gone before us, let us ask for her maternal intercession today so that we too will experience the glorification of our bodies when our days in this world are ended. Furthermore, Mary's Assumption into heaven, apart from being a revealed truth, is also evident to the human reason, for as the virgin mother of Christ (God), who was spotless throughout her entire life, it is befitting, that she be the first to enjoy the promised rest which her son, our Lord Jesus Christ, promised to all those who follow him.

Listen to me beloved, Mary's Assumption into heaven assures us that indeed, there is hope for all those who make sincere efforts, to cooperate with the grace of God and to live holy lives. The celebration teaches us that where our Mother is, we too may be if we follow her footsteps, who so faithfully imitated her son's footsteps. This celebration should also stir up the desire for holiness in us, challenging us to take to a life of prayer especially the rosary and other Marian Devotions. Mary’s Assumption also reminds us that purity, lowliness, obedience, chastity, charity, faithfulness, patience, forbearance, compassion, sincerity, love and humility are the tickets we need to make heaven.

Thus, as ambassadors of Mary, let us be assured that with Mary, our Mother interceding for us in heaven, the victory over sin and death is ours through Christ, our Lord.

Oh that today you would listen to his voice harden not your hearts (Ps.95:7-8).

LET US PRAY: Lord Jesus, may your blessed Mother continue to intercede for us. AMEN

TOMORROW IS THE SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Tomorrow, August 15, the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary—the glorious truth that Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was taken body and soul into heavenly glory.

The Assumption reminds us that Mary’s life was always directed toward God. Her “yes” to God, her humility, faithfulness, and perseverance led her to share uniquely in the glory of her Son, Jesus Christ.

As we celebrate this beautiful Marian solemnity, may Mary teach us to trust God even when we do not understand His plans. May she remind us that our earthly journey does not end in suffering or death, but points toward the hope of eternal life with God. 🙏💙
