Topic: The New Birth.
Text: John 3:3-6, 1peter 1:23, Titus 3:5 "He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. (NLT)
Introduction:
The new birth is an experience not an event. Every believer must have this experience if you are truly saved. The new birth is an experience in Christ through the Holy Spirit, it is the washing and cleansing of one's past life, the renewing and regeneration of one in the Holy Spirit. The new birth is a transmission from your old life and ways to the new life you have found in Christ Jesus, having the seal of the Holy Spirit as a confirmation of sonship. The new birth is not gotten through works or cultural principles, it is a FREE GIFT OF MERCY. Titus 3:5 "He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. (NLT)
THE NEW BIRTH EXPERIENCE.
1. You must be born again. John 3:6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Born again is forsaking your old ways and embracing the new life in Christ, there must be genuine repentance, total separation from your past life, e.g womanizing, lying, fornication, anger, stealing, disobedience etc, which is the proof of repentance, this is not done by the ability or intellectuality of man, you must allow the Holy Spirit in. If after years of repentance these are still found in you, you are not yet born again.
2. You must have the Holy Spirit. Christianity without the Holy Spirit is purely tradition and religion. The proof of our sonship or repentance is the presence of the Holy Spirit, this is not not about speaking in tongue or praying long hours, it is giving Him room to lead you. Romans 8:14-16. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Galatians 5:16. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
3. Transformation. There must be a transformation occurrence of your mind, the way you think will change, the way you talk will change, your behavior will change, your appetite for things will change as well, Romans 12:2. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (NLT) Galatians 5:16&25 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 25. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.* this transformation will never occur until we submit to the person of the Holy Spirit.
BENEFITS OF THE NEW BIRTH.
1. You are of incorruptible seed. This means the life we live is not patterned to this world even if we are in this world. 1peter 1:23. Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.(NKJV) Although born of flesh but not been led by the flesh, this can only be possible by the new birth in Christ Jesus.
2. You have an inheritance. The new birth gives you a place in Christ Jesus, give you an eternity in Christ, you become a son not a slave, you have the gift of the Father, (Holy Spirit). Romans 8:14-16. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bo***ge again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father 16.The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:. (KJV)
3. You are not Condemned. One of the benefits you will enjoy is that all past wrongs are forgotten, never in existence, you can not be Condemned with any of your past. *Romans 8:1&2. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.(KJV) you are free from you past life and wrongs as long as you remain in Christ Jesus.
Conclusion:
The new birth is not a product of attending Church meetings or prayer meetings, it is not a product of fasting and Praying, it is an experience you must have with the Holy Spirit, it is partnership with Divinity, which makes you an ambassador of Jesus Christ, a representative of God's kingdom and standard. DO YOU HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE? it is not too late to have this sweet experience with Him today, right where you are, you can confess Him and ask Him to come into your life forgive you of your past wrong.
PRAYERS:
1. Lord thank you for the new birth experience, for the privilege to be called your son/daughter, thank you for the revelation of your word.
2. Take out time to confess your sins and ask the Lord to make you a new person in Christ Jesus.
3. Pray the Theme of the year in all areas of your life.
4. Command your day.
