DATE: SUNDAY 30TH APRIL, 2023
TOPIC: RAISING A BETTER GENERATION OF SOLDIERS FOR CHRIST
BIBLE TEXT: 1 JOHN 1:1-7.
MEMORY VERSE: "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ".1 Cor. 11:1.
INTRODUCTION
Our God is a trans-generational God.
Therefore, whatever He does to a people, He would always want such to be passed to the next generations. Deut. 6:1-7 .
For instance:
* The Commandments of God, the Law of the Lord is to be kept from generation to generations. Deut. 4:40 & 6:2.
* The covenant of God is from generation to generations. Gen. 17:7 & 19 compared with Deut. 5:1-3.
* The blessings of the Lord are from generations to
generations. Gen. 12:2-3 compared with Gal.3:13-14.
From the above, God expects each generation to pass over their encounters, relationship, covenant with the Jehovah God to the next generations. Deut. 6:6-7 compared with Jer. 35:1-6.
And it must be noted that in all of the above, the latter generations are meant to be better, stronger, wiser, more powerful, more spiritual, more glorious etc. than the former; simply because the glory of the latter house is always greater than the former. Hag. 2:9.
And again, the path of the just is meant to shine brighter, generation upon generations - physically, spiritually, maritally, economically, socio-politically etc. Pro. 4:18,
OUTLINE
However, the common experience and reality is that things do not always go as God intended.
In most cases, the latter generations are even worse than, less spiritual, powerless, less glorious, poorer and weaker than the former due to the following among others.
a. The older generation sometimes might have derailed from the core of the covenant even before the new generations were born. Lev. 18:11, Ez. 11:20, Lev. 22:31
b. They may not have a well-established relationship with God not to talk of passing same to the next generations. Gen. 18:18-19 compared with 1 John 1:3 &7.
c. They may not teach the next generations the ordinances of the Lord in a clear, convincing and less-ambiguous way. Deut. 6:6-7, Pro. 3:1-5 and 4:1-7.
d. They may not be consistent and persistent in their teachings. Please, see Jer. 35:1-6.
e. The substance of their teaching may not be in tandem with the established truth of the word of God and as such, may not be verifiable in the scriptures. Acts 17:11.
f. Their lives and characters may not be consistent with what they teach. 1 Cor. 11:1 compared with 1 Tim. 3:1-7. They may not be leading by examples.
g. They may lack the power of the gospel (the Holy Ghost Power) if they are not born-again, and as such, be carnally minded. Rom. 8:4-8.
Therefore, to raise a better generation, we must take care of the above highlighted points and many more diligently.
Nevertheless, the above should not hinder the new generations from fulfilling the mind of God concerning them - being better than their forefathers as soldiers of Christ through
the following:
1. Redemption - you must be born again. That is your
enlistment into the army of God. John 1:12 compared with John 3:3-8.
2. Be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:5 &
compared with Acts 10:38.
3. As soldier of Christ, do not entangle yourself with the worldly affairs. II Tim. 2:2-5.
4. Always study and meditate on the word of God. Jos. 1:8 and II Tim. 2:15.
5. Always renew your mind. Rom. 12:1-2..
6. Keep the communion and fellowship of the Spirit. Jude 20 compared with 1 John 1:3 &7.
7. Live and walk in the Spirit. Gal. 5:25 compared with Rom. 8:4-5.
8. Live holy and righteously. 1 Pet. 1:14-16.
9. Do not forsake the assembly of other brethren; always join up in the parade of other soldiers of Christ (Christians). Heb. 10:25.
CONCLUSION
The failure in the society and church today can be said to be due to the failure of the past leaders and fathers; because if they had instilled and inculcated the necessary instructions physically, spiritually, maritally, economically etc. into the heads and hearts of the in-coming generations, the narratives would have been different. May God help His church.
