Pastoral Visits To Political Leaders Not Endorsement – ECWA

The general secretary of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev Dr Ayuba Asheshe, has stated pastoral visits to those in leadership positions should not be interpreted as political endorsements.

He advised Nigerians, political and religious leaders to avoid politics of bitterness and division as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Asheshe stated this while speaking with newsmen at ECWA headquarters in Jos yesterday. According to him, the church had not endorsed anyone, adding, “It is not the responsibility of any church denomination to endorse any candidate seeking political offices in the state or in the country at large.”

The cleric further said they are fathers to all irrespective of their political affiliations. Rev Dr Asheshe described the current period as a difficult one for Nigeria, citing rising insecurity, economic hardship and what he termed “spiritual turbulence” affecting families, communities and places of worship.

“Our country, our community is going through trying moments. There is so much insecurity, so much economic hardship, so much spiritual turbulence,” he said.

Rev Dr Asheshe further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to act as an impartial umpire in the 2027 general elections

“INEC must be a neutral umpire. People should live up to their responsibilities. Everybody has been given a position of trust. You must live according to that trust. Anything less than that, you are not fair to this country,” he said.

ECWA GENERAL SECRETARY APPLAUDS GOVERNOR MUTFWANG ON DEVELOPMENT IN PLATEAU STATE
Jos – Government House. The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), led by its General Secretary, and the District Church Council Executives of the nine DCCs on the Plateau, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. During the visit, the delegation leader and General Secretary of ECWA, Rev. Dr. Ayuba Asheshe, commended and applauded the Governor for his efforts to develop and improve the well-being of the people of Plateau State. Rev. Dr. Asheshe stated that Plateau State is blessed with hardworking and resilient people, rich agricultural resources, a vibrant youthful population and a strong Christian heritage. He acknowledged the enormous responsibility of governing the State, particularly amid insecurity that has claimed lives, displaced families and destroyed livelihoods. He appreciated His Excellency for the visible developments and interventions across the State, especially in infrastructure, agriculture and human capital development. Dr. Asheshe noted that ECWA, as a church organization headquartered in Plateau State, has contributed significantly to the development of the State through evangelism, education, healthcare, agriculture, employment generation, community development and human capacity building. He concluded by saying that, like Oliver Twist, ECWA and the nine District Church Councils on the Plateau would continue to demand more, so that the Church can expand its evangelistic outreach. In his response, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, thanked God for the ministry of ECWA on the Plateau, referencing the 1960 Independence speech of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, in which he appreciated the Church in Nigeria for its contributions to education and healthcare. The Governor specifically thanked ECWA for its contribution to educating the populace and also lauded the impact of the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, which he described as a leading hospital not only in Nigeria but in Africa for the treatment of Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF). Governor Mutfwang concluded that his administration would continue to partner with ECWA to ensure that the Plateau State Government utilizes the structures of ECWA to reach out to ordinary people, to the glory of God.
