EYN President Urges Peace as Nigeria Marks Eid-el-Maulud

The President of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN), Rev. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, PhD, has issued a strong and urgent Eid-el-Maulud message calling on Nigerians of all faiths to embrace peaceful coexistence, pursue equity and justice, and unite to defeat extremism and fundamentalism across the country.

EYN President Felicitates Muslim Umma on Eid-el-Maulud

In a firm goodwill message issued through the EYN Headquarters, Rev. Mbaya congratulated the Muslim Umma in Nigeria and around the world on the celebration marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), while using the occasion to issue a direct challenge to the nation’s leaders and citizens.
“On behalf of the entire EYN family, I congratulate our Muslim brothers and sisters on this occasion,” the EYN President declared. “But beyond congratulations, this moment demands something more of us — a renewed and urgent commitment to peace, to justice, and to one another as fellow Nigerians.”

EYN President Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Between Christians and Muslims
Rev. Mbaya did not mince words in his call for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria, warning that the nation cannot afford further drift into religious suspicion and division.
“I make this call with all seriousness: Christians and Muslims in this country must reject, once and for all, every voice and every act that seeks to turn us against each other. We have lived together for generations. We must refuse to let anyone — for political gain or any other reason — tear that bond apart. This is not optional. It is a matter of our collective survival,” he said.
Call for Equity and Justice for All Nigerians
He was equally emphatic in his demand for equity and justice, insisting that peace cannot be built on a foundation of unfairness.

“I call on government at every level, and on all of us as citizens, to commit — genuinely and visibly — to justice and equity for every Nigerian, regardless of faith, tribe, or region. Marginalization breeds resentment, and resentment is the soil in which extremism grows. If we are serious about peace, we must be serious about fairness. There can be no shortcuts here,” he stated firmly.
United Front Needed to Defeat Extremism and Fundamentalism
The EYN President reserved his strongest words for the fight against extremism and fundamentalism, describing it as a non-negotiable duty for every well-meaning Nigerian.
“I call on Christians and Muslims, on government and citizens, on every institution of this nation, to join hands without delay to defeat extremism and fundamentalism in all their forms. This is not a Christian problem or a Muslim problem — it is a Nigerian problem, and it demands a united Nigerian response. Extremism has taken our loved ones, destroyed our churches and mosques, and stolen the future of our children. We cannot afford to be passive any longer. We must act, and we must act together,” he said.

Support for Insurgency-Affected Communities in North East Nigeria
He called for concrete solidarity with communities still recovering from insurgency in the North East, urging that words of sympathy be matched with sustained action, support, and investment in rebuilding.
EYN President’s Final Appeal: A Call to Conscience This Eid-el-Maulud
Rev. Mbaya concluded with a direct appeal to every Nigerian to take personal responsibility for the nation’s peace.
“This Eid-el-Maulud, I am not simply extending goodwill — I am making a call to conscience. Let every one of us, Christian and Muslim, choose peace over division, justice over favoritism, and unity over extremism. The Nigeria we all desire will not be handed to us. We must build it, together, starting now,” he said.

EYN President Commissions Gurku International School in Nasarawa

The President of EYN – Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Daniel Y. C. Mbaya, has commissioned the Gurku International School in DCC Nasarawa, describing the institution as an investment in the future of Nigerian children.

The school was built with support from Covington Community Church in the United States. Its commissioning brought together church leaders, traditional and community leaders, education stakeholders and other guests.

The EYN Vice President, Rev. Nuhu Abbah Muttah, was among the senior church leaders present at the ceremony.
Gurku International School marks education milestone
Speaking at the event, Rev. Dr. Mbaya commended Covington Community Church for supporting the development of the school.

He said the project demonstrated the importance of partnerships between churches, communities and organizations committed to improving the lives of children.
The EYN President described education as an important foundation for developing responsible citizens and building peaceful communities.

He said the new institution should provide children with an environment where they can learn, develop their abilities and prepare for the future.
The ceremony featured prayers, goodwill messages and the formal dedication of the school.

Community members expressed appreciation to Covington Community Church and appealed for continued support to sustain and expand the institution.

Mbaya calls for protection of Nigerian children
The EYN President also used the occasion to speak about the security challenges facing Nigerian schoolchildren.
Rev. Dr. Mbaya commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for efforts towards the rescue of schoolchildren abducted in Oyo State.

He urged the Federal Government to sustain such efforts and strengthen security around schools and communities.
The EYN President further appealed to the government to intensify efforts to rescue the M***a and Lassa schoolchildren.

He said the safety and freedom of abducted children should remain an urgent national priority.
According to Rev. Dr. Mbaya, insecurity must not prevent Nigerian children from accessing education.
He also stressed that protecting children requires the collective responsibility of government, communities, religious institutions and other stakeholders.

EYN President urges religious leaders to promote peace
Rev. Dr. Mbaya also called on Islamic cleric Sheikh Jingir to apologize over statements he described as hate speech.
He urged security agencies to take appropriate action if the cleric refused to apologize.

The EYN President called on religious leaders across Nigeria to use their influence to promote peace, tolerance and mutual respect.

He warned against public statements that could deepen religious or communal tensions.
At a time when Nigeria continues to face security and social challenges, Rev. Dr. Mbaya said both religious and political leaders have a responsibility to promote peaceful coexistence

School reflects power of partnership
The commissioning of Gurku International School represents another step in the educational development of the Gurku community.
The project also highlights the potential impact of partnerships between EYN, local communities and international partners.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the success of the school, its management, teachers and students
