Mpape YOWICAN Inaugurates New Executive Council at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church

The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), Mpape Chapter, officially inaugurated its newly elected Executive Council on Sunday, July 12, 2026, during the Holy Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mpape, Abuja.

The colourful ceremony brought together Christian leaders, clergy, and youth representatives from various denominations to witness the formal inauguration of the new leadership, marking another significant milestone in the chapter's commitment to fostering Christian unity and youth development.

Welcoming the congregation, the Vice Chairman of CAN, Mpape Chapter, Catechist Elder Linus Ekwueme, expressed gratitude to God for the successful conduct of the elections. He noted that although the inauguration was originally scheduled to hold at ECWA Good News Church, it was relocated to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church due to the official leave of the CAN Chairman, Rev. Ezekiel E. J. Gbanzu. He urged the newly inaugurated executives to lead with humility, integrity, and selfless service, reminding them of their responsibility to strengthen unity among Christians across all denominations in Mpape.

In his speech, Rev. Fr. Job Swam Chechet, the Parish Priest, described leadership as a sacred call to service rather than a position of privilege. He challenged the new executives to become ambassadors of peace, unity, and evangelisation, encouraging them to foster stronger relationships among Christian youths and remain steadfast in advancing the mission of Christ.

The highlight of the celebration was the official inauguration of the Executive Council by the officiating minister of the day, Rev. Fr. George Julius Avong, who prayed over the newly elected officers and laid hands on them, committing their leadership and service to God.

The inauguration officially ushered in a new era of renewed vision, zeal, and commitment to promoting ecumenical fellowship, youth empowerment, and the advancement of the Gospel among Christian youths in Mpape.
