DAY 28: THE MEANING OF JUSTIFICATION (ROMANS 3:28, GALATIANS 2:16)
Paul teaches that justification is the act by which God declares a sinner righteous through faith in Jesus Christ, rather than through works of the law.
In Romans 3:28 (KJV) he writes, “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”
Similarly, in Galatians 2:16 (KJV), Paul emphasizes,
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by faith in Jesus Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.”
These passages clarify that our standing before God is not based on human achievement but on the righteousness of Christ, which is imputed to us when we trust in Him.
ABRAHAM AS THE EXAMPLE OF FAITH (GENESIS 15:6, ROMANS 4:1-5)
Abraham’s life is presented as the prototype of justification by faith.
In Genesis 15:6 (KJV), it is recorded that:
“And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.”
Paul picks up this theme in Romans 4:1-5, explaining that Abraham’s righteousness was credited because of his faith rather than his works.
Abraham’s trust in God, even in the face of impossible promises, set the foundation for the doctrine that righteousness comes through belief, not by adherence to the law.
This teaching confirms that just as Abraham was justified by faith, so too are all who believe in Christ, linking the Old Testament revelation to the New Testament fulfillment.
