SIP FROM THE LIVING PORTALS... Gleanings from John 1:1-12 (Part 31)

John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him (John 1:15-18).

Beloved, as I welcome you to this beautiful new month of May, I am confident that God is set to do amazing things in your life, as your mouth will be filled with testimonies of God's abundant blessings. We shall continue with our discourse on the revelation of the person of Jesus.

We have seen in our past episodes that revealing Jesus is the primary assignment we are saddled with having been redeemed by the Lord because the goal is that the knowledge of the glory of God will cover the entire earth as water covers the sea, and we are the agents of change, the foot soldiers God has purposed to use for this propagation of the gospel of peace at every nooks and cranies of the earth.

From our text, we noted that the moment John saw Jesus, he shouted, pointing everyone’s attention to Jesus. He bore witness to Him, and when Christ appeared in the scene, he drew the attention of the people to Christ.

This is exactly what our lives are meant to do, always as believers, drawing attention to Christ and not to ourselves.

As you step out this month, flourishing in victory, remember that Jesus must be the central theme of the message of your life.

Let Christ be seen in and through you this month and always.

Your duty is to project the image of Christ that all men may come to the knowledge of His saving power. It is not enough for you to know Him; others should also come to His knowledge through you.

Happy new month!

SIP FROM THE LIVING PORTALS... Gleanings from John 1:1-12 (Part 30)

He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:11-14).

Beloved, as we enjoy our intimate relationship with God through Christ Jesus, our eyes are open to behold His glory, and unlike Moses who covered his face with a veil because of the glory of God that shone on his face, the face of Christ is open for us to behold Him knowing that as we behold His glory, we are translated into the very nature of His glory.

As Jesus was made flesh and dwelt among us, we were privileged to see the content of what His glory really is. According to our text, His glory is filled with grace and truth.

When we desire to encounter the glory of God, what we are indirectly asking for is access to the grace of God, the divine empowerment and enablement we need to walk in the reality of His Truth, which is the identity of Christ.

As we walk with God, we receive the strength to walk in His truth. We are equipped with the substance we need to walk in the ways of the Lord and live in the practical reality of His word.

No one of their own accord or by their own strength can walk in the system of God. No one is strong enough to do the will of God by their strength. No one is empowered to prevail by their own strength.

But for us, as believers, we enjoy the divine ability to do God's will because He resides right within us.

Philippians 2:13 says For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

This is the grace that empowers us to walk in the Truth. This is the glory of God.

SIP FROM THE LIVING PORTALS... Gleanings from John 1:1-12 (Part 29)

Dear child of GOD, our golden text affirmed that as Jesus became or was made flesh and dwelt among mankind, we beheld His glory.

John 1:14 (TPT) And so the Living Expression became a man and lived among us! We gazed upon his glory, the glory of the One and Only who came from the Father overflowing with tender mercy and truth!

Beloved, we are able to behold the glory of God in the person of Christ Jesus because He became flesh and dwell among us.

We got access to behold His glory because of His indwelling among us. As He dwell in our midst, we were able to relate with Him and cultivate an intimate relationship with Him and in the process, His glory was revealed to us.

Remember how Moses tarried with God for 40 days and nights, and as He descended from the mount, His face was shining without even him knowing. As He tarried with God, in His presence, the glory of God rested on Him.

You will only be given access to the revelation of the glory of God when you cultivate an intimate relationship with Him. As you tarry with Him, His glory radiates upon and through you.

SIP FROM THE LIVING PORTALS... Gleanings from John 1:1-12 (Part 28)

As we continue to grown some of the principal prerequisites of enjoying the privilege of having Christ become flesh and dwell with us, and as we emphasize on the need to have a heart that is kind and large enough to reach out to the world and the church, in 2 Kings 7, the city of Samaria was under a siege of famine and everyone suffered greatly from the pangs of this acute famine.

Somehow, by the provisions of God's mercy, four lepers, who were outcasts, sitting outside the city gate, were divinely appointed by God to bring the deliverance that Samaria desperately needed. These lepers took their lives into their hands as they approached the tent of the Syrians.

Indeed, God went before them and delivered the Syrians into their hands without them lifting a finger to fight. They ate as much as they could, hid some treasures, and then their conscience was awakened, and they felt guilty.

They knew that it was not a good thing to enjoy such deliverance without inviting the entire nation of Samaria to take the spoil.

They knew that what God did was not only for them, but for the entire nation.

Do you know that what God is doing in your life is not only for you and your immediate household?

Whatever God does in you, He is doing them through you so that He can reach the ends of the earth.

Don't be selfish; let Christ be revealed through you as He is revealed to you.

To host God, even as He becomes flesh and dwells with us, we must also be committed to the ministry of reconciliation in obedience to His instruction that we must go unto the ends of the earth.

As soon as Jesus gave the blessed bread to the two disciples, the bible says that He vanished from their sight. Jesus disappeared because His purpose had been fulfilled. He journeyed with them all the while because He wanted to reveal Himself to them. He was not going anywhere when He joined them. His destination was to reveal himself to them.

As soon as He vanished from their sight, they immediately arose and returned to Jerusalem to inform the disciples of what they had seen. There was no record that they were even patient enough to eat the bread Jesus blessed for them.

They couldn't hold on to the truth they had just encountered. They went back to the eleven and those with them to give them the good news of the risen Christ and how they had seen Him.

If Jesus must reveal Himself to you, if He must become flesh and dwell with you, He must be convinced that you will take Him to the nations and not selfishly keep Him to yourself.

Are you committed to the gospel of soul winning?

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:11-14).

Beloved, if you study Luke 24:13-35, you would see that when Jesus sat at the table with the two disciples, the Bible said that He took the bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to the disciples.

The truth is that, as they invited Jesus into their home and didn't just provide Him with shelter but also made efforts to ensure He wouldn't go to bed hungry, they didn't know it was Jesus they were dealing with. To them, He was a stranger, perhaps, a strange one, especially judging by how He expounded scriptures with them. But their hearts were large enough to be generous towards someone they were meeting for the first time. They handed over their bread to Him, and He was the one who blessed it.

But do you notice that Jesus did not even bother to eat the bread? He blessed it and returned it to the disciples in a blessed dimension. This is what happens when we give to the Lord through the people He sends our way.

Remember the story of the young boy who gave his lunch of a few fishes and loaves of bread in Matthew 14: 13-21? He went back home with baskets full of more.

If Christ must become flesh and dwell with us so that the whole world can see Him through us, then we must be generous enough to yield ourselves completely to Him and be at the service of those He brings our way.

Are you generous enough to host God?

SIP FROM THE LIVING PORTALS... Gleanings from John 1:1-12 (Part 25)

The disciples heading to Emmaus in Luke 24: 13-35 did not just invite Jesus into their home; they also handed over their bread to Him.

Though he was a complete stranger to them, they didn't just give Him shelter; they also invited Him to dine with them, and when it was time to eat, they gave Him the bread so that he could bless it.

Having journeyed for that long, they must have been expectedly hungry and tired, yet, in their own hunger, they were kind enough to consider the stranger's hunger and even prioritised it, because giving him their bread meant he would have the first share.

Abraham in Genesis 18 didn't just give water to the angels to quench their thirst. He asked his wife to dress a calf and feed them.

These two examples show the love God expects us to show those around us, including strangers. In these two examples, the kind and generous act of love of these men actuated something divinely significant.

If Jesus must dwell with you, you must pay attention to how you treat those who come in contact with you, because you might have entertained Jesus unaware.

Be kind today and always. Show the love of Christ to everyone, including those you adjudge to be undeserving.

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:11-14).

Dear child of God, you can't claim to be a child of God and not be kind. You can't claim to belong to God, and your bowels of mercy will not be active enough to show mercy to those who are in need around you.

The disciples proved that they were genuine disciples of Jesus, which compelled Jesus to reveal Himself to them by their kindness and large hearts. They would have missed this divine opportunity if they had closed their heart and the doors of their home to this 'stranger'.

What they didn't know was that Jesus was actually testing them to see whether they were prepared for the revelation of His identity. The bible says that Jesus acted as if He were going further. He wanted to see whether they would invite Him into their home, into their lives. He was not going further because they were His target. Thank God, they passed the test.

In Genesis 18, Abraham demonstrates extreme hospitality by inviting three passing strangers into his tent, feeding them, and washing their feet, unaware that they are actually messengers from God. He entertained angels unaware (Hebrews 13: 2)!

If Jesus comes to your community today as a stranger, will you pass the test? If He comes to you as a homeless person who genuinely needs help, will you be able to see Jesus in the fellow?

Jesus will come to dwell or tarry with us, and we must be prepared to see Him in whatever way He presents Himself to us.

SIP FROM THE LIVING PORTALS... Gleanings from John 1:1-12 (Part 23)

In Luke 24: 13-35, two disciples of Jesus were heading to Emmaus when Jesus joined them in their journey. He engaged them in discussion about His resurrection, which they had been discussing before He joined them. Unfortunately, they didn't know that it was Jesus they were speaking about, who was now walking with them.

As they neared the village called Emmaus, Jesus acted as if he were going farther, but they "urged him strongly" saying "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over".

Bear in mind that they were not privy to Jesus' identity at this time. They didn't know He was their master. To them, He was just a stranger, yet their kindness and bowels of mercy were large enough to ensure that they provided a place of rest for Him instead of allowing Him to journey alone in the dead of the night.

They urged Jesus to stay with them for the night, and that marked the beginning of their testimonies.

In your quest to see Jesus dwell with you, you must remember that He may not always appear in His full identity when He comes to you. He will always come in the nature of man, even as He comes to you through strangers, your neighbours, and those who randomly come in contact with you. How you respond to them will determine whether He stays with you or not.

How do you treat the strangers and the needy around you? Do you extend the hands of love and fellowship, or do you turn a blind eye?

Jesus is in your neighbourhood, always. I hope you will see Him today!

SIP FROM THE LIVING PORTALS... Gleanings from John 1:1-12 (Part 22)

As Jesus dwelt among us, we beheld His glory. His glory became obvious and visible to us because He dwelt with us.

In Matthew 17:1-2 the bible says And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

Peter, James and John witnessed the transfiguration of Jesus as it occurred on the mountain because they were right there with Him. They saw His face shine like the sun, and His raiment became as white as the light because He was in their midst. If they had not followed Him to the mountain when He summoned them, they wouldn't have partaken of the transfiguration experience. They wouldn't have witnessed all they saw.

Beloved, as Jesus dwells with us, we become licensed to become partakers of His realities, including the reality of beholding His glory.

This means that the degree to which you dwell with Him will define the realities that are available to you in Him.

As you step out today, do all you can to dwell with Jesus. Let nothing take you away from Him. Let no situation in life distract you from Jesus.

His presence in your life defines your reality.

If you must walk in His glory, you must tarry with Him.

What made it possible for us to embrace Jesus and relate with Him is that He was made flesh and He dwelt among us.

Though God, He embraced humanity so that humanity can learn how to live in their true reality and be able to reason with divinity. Though eternal, He stepped into time so that we can step into eternity with Him. He took on the nature of man so that mankind can access the nature of God and walk in the reality of the same.

The singular act of Jesus, to humble Himself to be made flesh, is the only reason we now have hope of eternal life in God. Without this, we would have remained condemned to eternal damnation.

You must remember that as He dwelt with us, the goal is to take us to the realm that defines His identity. He didn't dwell among us on vacation; He did so for our redemption and to bring up all those who have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

Since we all came short of His glory because of sinfulness, He came down to pull us up into the realm of His glory.

Today and always, remember that you have been redeemed into His glory. Walk in the consciousness of the glory that defined your redemption.

This was why Jesus came. This was why He made Himself of no reputation by taking up the nature of mankind. This was why He went through the path of the cross.

Walk in His glory!
