APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,

AIMS
to study the importance of mutual agreement on how to run household responsibilities, and
to discuss some areas of interest of husband and wife in household responsibilities.

INTRODUCTION
The principle of moral reciprocity by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matt 7:12 suggest that we should respect the opinions of other people. In handling household responsibilities in a helpmeet manner, it is very important to sit down together and make a list of the chores that each person absolutely likes and dislikes or hates doing because what one despises may be the other’s delight and this may make them switch tasks. They must take pleasure in questions like ‘will you do the laundry while I clean the floor?’ ‘is it convenient for you to help me drop the kids at their school on your way to work?’ ‘can we employ a cleaner to assist in the monthly cleaning of our apartment or we do it together?’ Questions like these point to the fact that the couple respect each other’s opinions on important matters. However, when there is a disagreement on who or how or when to do things, both of them should find a fun way to compromise on getting the task done either by taking turns, hiring external labour or jokingly flipping a coin to allot it.

STUDY GUIDE
1. Briefly explain the concept of discussing and agreeing on areas of personal interests by married couples in attending to their household responsibilities.

2. Discuss how couples can respect the interest of each other in household responsibilities in the context of Matt 7:12; Rom 13:10 and Eph 5:33.

3. Childcare is a major part of parental responsibility in christian homes. Discuss in the context of mutual agreement between Elkanah and his wife, Hannah in 1 Sam 1:21-23.

4. Give examples of husband’s and wife’s areas of interests in responding to household responsibilities and how such personal interests can be aligned for peace and joy in the family. Discuss from life experience.

CONCLUSION
Christian couples should always derive fun in respecting the interest of each other when it comes to choosing and attending to household responsibilities.
