THEME: THE NAME OF JESUS

MEMORISE: Neither is there salvation in any other: For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

READ: Philippians 2:9-11
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

MESSAGE
Many years ago, my driver and I were travelling from Ibadan to Ilorin, a city in the North- Central region of Nigeria. There was a narrow bridge along the way, and only one vehicle could drive on it at a time. Therefore, drivers had to wait for any vehicles that were coming from the opposite direction of the bridge to pass through before they could get on the bridge. When we reached the foot of the bridge, we observed that no vehicle was coming from the opposite direction; therefore, we got on the bridge and began to drive to the other side. When we were halfway across the bridge, we suddenly saw that a truck was coming From the opposite direction at top speed. We had only two choices: we could either collide with the oncoming truck or swerve and plunge into the river under the bridge. There was no time to pray, but there was enough time to shout the name of Jesus. We eventually met the truck in the middle of the bridge, and somehow, we passed beside it and drove safely to the other side. My driver was so shaken that he immediately parked the car when we crossed over. When he regained his composure, he turned to me and asked what had just happened, and I told him that God enlarged the bridge for us.

The name of Jesus is powerful; it guarantees deliverance (Mark 16:17), freedom (John 8:36), promotion John 12:32), rest (Matt 11:28-30), satisfaction (John 7:37-39), answers to prayer John 14:14), and victory (1 Corinthians 15:57). Philippians 2:9 also tells us that His name is above every name. This means that everything that has a name is subject to the name of Jesus. If there is any ailment that has been plaguing you, as long as it has a name, it is inferior to the name of Jesus because at His name, every knee bows (Philippians 2:10).

Beloved, Jesus has given you the authority to use His name (John 16:23-24). This means that you have the ability to control situations and align them to God’s will for your life. Never despair when you are faced with negative situations; instead, proclaim the name of Jesus boldly, and you will surely emerge victorious. I pray that the power in the name of Jesus will destroy every plan of the devil concerning you and your household. Henceforth, you will walk in victory at all times, in Jesus’ name.

KEY POINT
The name of Jesus is superior to every other name.

HYMN 1: ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS NAME

1. All hail the power of Jesus' Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown Him Lord of all.

2. Let highborn seraphs tune the lyre,
and as they tune it, fall
Before His face Who tunes their choir,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Before His face Who tunes their choir,
and crown Him Lord of all.

3. Crown Him, ye morning stars of light,
Who fixed this floating bail;
Now hail the strength of Israel's might,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Now hail the strength of Israel's might,
and crown Him Lord of all.

4. Crown Him, ye martyrs of your God,
who from His altar call;
Extol the Stem of Jesse's Rod,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Extol the Stem of Jesse's Rod,
and crown Him Lord of all.

5. Ye seed of Israel's chosen race,
ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Hail Him Who saves you by His grace,
and crown Him Lord of all.

6. Hail Him, ye heirs of David's line,
Whom David Lord did call,
The God incarnate, Man divine,
and crown Him Lord of all,
The God incarnate, Man divine,
and crown Him Lord of all.

7. Sinners, whose love can ne'er forget
the wormwood and the gall,
Go spread your trophies at His feet,
and crown Him Lord of all.
Go spread your trophies at His feet,
and crown Him Lord of all.

before Him prostrate fall
And shout in universal song
the crownèd Lord of all.
And shout in universal song
the crowned Lord of all

TOPIC: BLESSED ARE THE PERSECUTED

MEMORISE:
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. - (2 Timothy 3:12)

BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 5:10-12 (KJV)

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for their's is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

MESSAGE:
All Christians will experience tribulations in the world (John 16:33), and being persecuted is one of the tribulations that every true believer must face. It is true that persecution is naturally unpleasant; however, it is a thing of joy to know that Jesus promised in Matthew 5:10 that those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake are blessed and will inherit the kingdom of heaven.

Today's memory verse says that every believer who chooses to live a godly life must experience some form of persecution, whether it is severe or mild. In whatever form it comes, persecution is naturally unpleasant. Therefore, to escape it, some believers compromise their faith and begin to conform to the world. As a believer, your witness for Christ will not be effective if you compromise your faith at every hint of persecution. Christians who compromise their faith in the face of persecution miss the opportunity to become more effective witnesses for Christ.

Every time the apostles endured persecution, they were presented with a greater opportunity to witness Christ to others. In Acts 4:1-3, the religious leaders in Jerusalem ordered Peter and John to be thrown in jail until the next day and threatened them severely not to preach in the name of Jesus anymore. After that incident, the apostles experienced God's power in a greater dimension and received more boldness to speak God's word (Acts 4:31-33). When they were scattered abroad after Stephen's death, they witnessed Christ everywhere they went, and the gospel spread mightily as a result (Acts 8:4).

Child of God, whether you are persecuted for not compromising your Christian values or outrightly punished for preaching the gospel, God's grace is sufficient to keep you from turning away from Him. His strength will carry you through every difficult moment when you keep your focus on Him. If you are experiencing persecution for being a Christian, know that you are not alone. When Jesus appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus, He referred to Himself as Jesus, the One whom Paul was persecuting (Acts 9:4-5). This means that those who persecute you are also persecuting Jesus, and He is fully with you in your tribulations.

Beloved, don't ever give up on your faith in the face of persecution; instead, draw strength from the One who promised that He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). He is the ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1), and He will be with you always, even to the end of the world (Matthew 28:20).

KEY POINT:
Blessed are those who endure persecution for righteousness' sake; they shall inherit the kingdom of God.

HYMNAL: 10 IN CHRIST ALONE

1 In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease;
my Comforter, my All in All;
here in the love of Christ I stand.

2 In Christ alone who took on flesh;
fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness
scorned by the ones He came to save;
'til on that cross as Jesus died
the wrath of God was satisfied;
for ev'ry sin on Him was laid;
here in the death of Christ I live.

3 There in the ground His body lay;
Light of the world by darkness slain.
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
sin's curse has lost its grip on me;
for I am His and He is mine,
bought with the precious blood of Christ!

4 No guilt in life, no fear in death;
this is the pow'r of Christ in me.
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man
can ever pluck me from His hand;
'til He returns or calls me home,
here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand!

TOPIC: BLESSINGS WITHOUT SORROW

MEMORISE:
The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. - (Proverbs 10:22)

BIBLE READING: 1 PETER 5:8-9, JOHN 10:10 (KJV)

1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV)

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

John 10:10 (KJV)

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

MESSAGE:
Many people want to get rich at all costs, and as such, the devil lures them into all sorts of sinful acts. Some of them eventually get the riches they want, but such riches always come with many sorrows. Only the blessing of God comes without sorrow, as we see in today's memory verse.

The devil never desires anything good for anybody. He may pretend as if he wants the best for a fellow, but he is a great deceiver and is incapable of giving anyone anything good. Instead, he is interested in stealing whatever God has given His children. John 10:10 reveals his true intentions when dealing with anyone: to steal, kill, and destroy. If you yield to the devil's temptation to engage in sin, you are giving him permission to steal from you, kill you, and destroy you.

Years ago, a female student of mine while I was a lecturer said to me, "Daddy, I have found a young man who wants to marry me." I congratulated her but she said, "No! That is where the problem is." She then proceeded to tell me that her father had informed her that he had offered her to a marine spirit, and if she ever got married, she would die. Her father also told her that if she didn't die, whoever she got married to would die on the wedding day. She then told me, "Now, this young man has approached me for marriage, and I have a feeling that it is the will of God that I get married to him. However, I don't want to say 'yes' to him because I don't want the marine spirit to kill him. What should I do?" I laughed and told her, "I know the Father of all spirits." I then prayed a simple prayer in the name of Jesus and told her to go ahead and accept the young man's proposal. Two years later, I was in a church in Yaba, Lagos, when this young lady walked up to me. She was carrying a baby in her hand, and she said, "Sir, do you remember me?" I replied, "Of course!" I asked her about her husband, and she pointed to a handsome young man. If that lady had not run to Jesus, she would have lived under the bo***ge of losing every man who showed interest in her.

Beloved, satan's 'blessings' always come with truckloads of sorrow. However, when God blesses you, He gives you a sorrow-free package.

KEY POINT:
Only the blessings of God come in sorrow-free packages.

TOPIC: DIVINE RESTORATION

MEMORISE:

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. - (Joel 2:25-26)

BIBLE READING: MARK 8:22-25 (KJV)

22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.

23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

MESSAGE:

Divine restoration is God's act of bringing a person or something back to its intended state. For example, when something that God created to be full becomes empty, a divine restoration will be required for it to become full again. God can restore what seems to have been lost forever. No matter what the case may be, I want you to know that you serve a God who can raise dry bones and make them a mighty army (Ezekiel 37:1-14). I pray for you right now that the Lord will restore whatever things you have lost that seem impossible to regain, in Jesus' name.

In today's Bible reading, we see the story of a man who was blind and was brought to Jesus for healing. Jesus spat on his eyes, touched him, and asked if he could see. The man said that he could see men as trees, walking. This tells us that he was probably not born blind; he must have seen trees and men before then. He used to see, but for some reason, he became blind. Jesus gave him a second touch, and then, he began to see clearly. The man had a divine encounter that restored his sight. I decree a divine restoration of any good thing you might have lost, in Jesus' name.

In Genesis 18:9-14, when God paid Abraham a visit and said that Sarah would have a baby in nine months, Sarah laughed. This was because, at that time, she was 90 years old. In Romans 4:17-21, the Bible described Sarah's womb as 'dead'. Nevertheless, God has the power to reverse the irreversible. If He could make the womb of a 90-year-old woman to carry a baby for nine months and cause her to deliver safely, what can He not do? In Jeremiah 32:27, the Almighty God said:

Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

Beloved, do you need a divine restoration in any area of your life? Call on God today, and He will restore anything in your life that is not working as He intended back to its original state. Don't continue putting up with what is not working in your life as God intends. He can restore everything the enemy might have stolen from you. Cry out to Him in prayer with faith in your heart, and you will experience a divine restoration to His original plan for your life, in Jesus' name.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, let Your divine touch restore everything that might have been lost in my life.

2 Let me at a throne of mercy

kneeling there in deep contrition;

3 Trusting only in Thy merit,
Would I seek Thy face;

TOPIC: IRREVERSIBLE BLESSINGS

MEMORIZE:

"For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee." Hebrews 6:13-14 (KJV)

BIBLE READING: 2 SAMUEL 7:1-16

1 And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the Lord had given him rest round about from all his enemies;

2 That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.

3 And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the Lord is with thee.

4 And it came to pass that night, that the word of the Lord came unto Nathan, saying,

5 Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the Lord, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?

6 Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.

7 In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?

8 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:

9 And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.

10 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,

11 And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the Lord telleth thee that he will make thee an house.

12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

MESSAGE:

In today's Bible reading, God told David, "Even if your son offends me after you have died, I will only discipline him; I will not take My mercy away from him. I will establish your throne forever, no matter what happens." This was why Jesus, the King of kings, introduced Himself as the root and the offspring of David in Revelation 22:16. That is a very good example of an irreversible blessing. When you read today's Bible reading closely, you will notice that God's pronouncement came just after David decided to build Him a house. This was something no one had ever done for Him before then.

In Genesis 22:1-8, God gave Abraham a little test by asking him to sacrifice his son. When Abraham passed the test, God swore by Himself to bless him.
..By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. - (Genesis 22:16-18)

God did not need to swear because once He speaks, it is done. However, He swore to show that the blessing He was pronouncing over Abraham could never be reversed. This tells us that in order to get an irreversible blessing from God, you have to do something that will touch His heart. God can bless you irreversibly when you do something that impresses Him.

Another person who can pronounce an irreversible blessing on you is your father. In Genesis 27:30-33, the Bible says that not long after Isaac blessed Jacob, Esau returned from hunting. When their father discovered that he had blessed the wrong fellow, he told Esau that Jacob had been blessed and that the blessing could not be reversed. When you read the passage closely, you will also notice that Jacob got this irreversible blessing just after he had made a special meal that pleased his father. If you can do something that pleases your father such that he blesses you from his heart, the blessing will be irreversible. I pray that God will give you irreversible blessings, in Jesus' name.

ACTION POINT:

Do something really special for your father or a father figure in your life today, and ask him to bless you.

HYMNAL 26 THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING

1 There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

REFRAIN:
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

2 There shall be showers of blessing,
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.

3 There shall be showers of blessing:
Send them upon us, O Lord;
Grant to us now a refreshing,
Come and now honor Thy Word.

4 There shall be showers of blessing:
Oh, that today they might fall,
Now as to God we're confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. - (3 John 2)

BIBLE READING: DEUTERONOMY 28:1-14 (KJV)

1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

3 Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

4 Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

5 Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store.

6 Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

7 The LORD shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways.

8 The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

9 The LORD shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in his ways.

10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.

11 And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

14 And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

MESSAGE:

Many times, when we come across a blessing while reading the Bible, we tend to rejoice and 'claim' that blessing. However, as a Mathematician, I have learned that for certain equations to work as expected, certain conditions must be met. Thus, when I see a blessing in the Bible, I always want to dig deeper to see the conditions that must be met for me to enjoy the blessing.

Some Christians don't enjoy some blessings God has pronounced upon them primarily because they are either ignorant of the required conditions or have failed to fulfil them. Therefore, it is very important that you know the conditions that are attached to God's promises so you can fulfil and maintain those conditions in order to enjoy the blessings.

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. - (Genesis 12:1-3)

In the Scripture above, God gave seven blessings to Abraham based on the following conditions: He instructed him to leave his country, kindred, and father's house in search of a land He would show him. So, for Abraham to enjoy these blessings, he had to fulfil all the conditions that God gave him. Abraham left his father's house and his country in search of the land God promised him as he was instructed, but he took one of his kindred (Lot) with him, thereby flouting one of the conditions. As a result, the blessings God promised him remained on hold until Lot separated from Abraham in Genesis 13:14-15.

Today's Bible reading contains some very beautiful promises. However, you should not get carried away by the promises alone; you should also take note of the conditions attached to them. God said that you must hearken diligently to His word and not turn away from it in order to enjoy the blessings. If you read further down in verses 15-68, you will see the consequences of not fulfilling the conditions the blessings were hinged upon.

Beloved, if you meet God's conditions, you will enjoy His blessings. However, if you do not meet them, you will not be able to receive or enjoy them.

KEY POINT:

Always take note of the conditions to be met in order to enjoy God's blessings.

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. - (Psalm 139:14)

BIBLE READING: GALATIANS 6:4-5 (KJV)

4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

5 For every man shall bear his own burden.

MESSAGE:
It is so easy to get caught in the trap of comparing oneself, especially when scrolling through social media. A person might see someone else's achievements, travels, and seemingly perfect life on their social media pages, and suddenly feel like his or her journey is inadequate. This mindset can take away the joy that God intends for the fellow. God didn't create us to live someone else's story. He designed us uniquely, with our own gifts, talents, and purpose. Comparing yourself to others often leads to envy, discouragement, or pride and none of these honours God. It also poisons your spirit and distracts you from God's plan. My dear child, instead of measuring yourself against others, focus on your own path. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small it seems. Trust that God's timing for your life is perfect, even if it looks different from those around you. Always be grateful for what you have and where God is taking you.

KEY POINT:
Whenever you feel the urge to compare yourself with others, pause and reflect on God's goodness in your life.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: MATTHEW 13:1-32, GENESIS 41

HYMNAL: 9 MY SOUL IS SO HAPPY IN JESUS

1 My soul is so happy in Jesus,
For He is so precious to me;
His voice it is music to hear it,
His face it is heaven to see.
Chorus:
I am happy in Him,
I am happy in Him;
My soul with delight
He fills day and night.
For I am happy in Him.

2 He sought me so long ere I knew Him,
When wand'ring afar from the fold;
Safe home in His arms He hath bro't me,
To where there are pleasures untold. [Chorus]

3 His love and His mercy surround me,
His grace like a river doth flow;
His Spirit, to guide and to comfort,
Is with me wherever I go. [Chorus]

4 They say I shall some day be like Him,
My cross and my burden lay down;
Till then I will ever be faithful,
In gathering gems for His crown. [Chorus]
