The death of Jesus is central to the gospel. Though He was obedient 2026
Speaker: Pastor Ikiddeh in all things, everything culminated in His death. The reason He was born was to die. His death was more important than all the miracles He did. He wasn't about accolades; He was about the mission.
The cross was the greatest tragedy; but in God's plan, it was the greatest rescue mission. There is no access to the Father except by the way of the cross. We are believers and God's children because of the finished work of Jesus on the cross.
WHAT IS ATONEMENT?
Atonement is doing something to show the one you have offended just how sorry you are. It means making amends through a sacrifice, which blots out the offence and restores the broken relationship.
Jesus made that sacrifice, blotted out our transgression, satisfied God's wrath and restored our relationship with God.
The core of atonement is to bring two parties that are meant to be one together.
WHY DID JESUS DIE?
Sin is rebellion and defiance to God. When Adam and Eve sinned, spiritual death occurred and physical death followed.
But God loves man intensely, so He had to save man while maintaining His divine justice. So God put into effect a plan. He introduced sacrifices in the Old Testament. Animals were used for atonement, but there was still a challenge. The blood of the animal could not permanently blot out the sin. So it was done over and over, until Jesus came.
God sent Jesus as the perfect sacrifice given for man. He became our substitute. Rather than God inflicting the wrath on us, He did that on Jesus. Jesus took our death that we might receive life.
So, why tolerate what He has taken away from you? He took all our troubles upon Himself.
THE COMPONENTS OF ATONEMENT
1) Forgiveness: is a part of atonement. It means to let go of someone who has offended you. Colossians 2:13-14.
Jesus took the hard drive of sin and deleted its content permanently. He put an infinite separation between you and your sins. Psalm 103:12.
When the accuser comes and reminds you of what you did, do not contemplate on that. Remind yourself that you are not your mistakes.
2) Redemption is another component of atonement. It means to pay a price for something or someone which brings about a change of ownership. Ephesians 1:7.
Redemption kicks in for anyone who cries out to the Lord for help. 1 Peter 1:18.
As believers, sometimes, our feet stray back to the slave market we were delivered from, but remember you have been bought at a price.
3) Reconciliation: is another component of atonement. Let no one tell you that God is far away from you. You were brought in to be a part of His family.
4) Access: You have access (full rights to enter) to God. He hears your prayers. Wherever you are, you have access.
We tend to measure God by the people we encounter. But God is not man, and He stands by His Word. He will remember your sins no more.
When you fall into sin, do not run away from Him. Don't talk down; talk upwards.
In conclusion, Jesus took your place, bore your sin, purchased your freedom, reconciled you to God, and now you have rights and privileges of a child of God.
