FIRST READING
“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its”
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians (Galatians 5:18-25)
Brethren: If you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are plain: immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 1: 1-2.3.4 and 6 (R. see John 5: l2)
R/. He who follows you, Lord, will have the light of life.
Blessed indeed is the man
who follows not the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the path with sinners,
nor abides in the company of scorners,
but whose delight is the law of the Lord,
and who ponders His law day and night. R/.
He is like a tree that is planted
beside the flowing waters,
that yields its fruit in due season,
and whose leaves shall never fade;
and all that he does shall prosper. R/.
R/. He who follows you, Lord, will have the light of life.
Not so are the wicked, not so!
For they, like winnowed chaff,
shall be driven away by the wind.
for the Lord knows the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked will perish. R/.

ALLELUIA John 10:27
Alleluia. My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord; and I know them, and they follow me. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Woe to you Pharisees! Woe to you lawyers also! ”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 11:42-46)
At that time: Jesus said, “Woe to you Pharisees! for you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. Woe to you Pharisees! for you love the best seat in the synagogues and salutations in the market places. Woe to you! for you are like graves which are not seen, and men walk over them without knowing it.” One of the lawyers answered Him, “Teacher, in saying this you reproach us also.” And He said, “Woe to you lawyers also! for you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.”
The Gospel of the Lord.

TODAY’S REFLECTION
The concerns addressed by Paul in today’s reading are not different from the concerns that we face in the church and our world today. The sins listed have corresponding virtue that makes the world a better and beautiful place to live in. if therefore our target is heaven, then we must strive to uphold virtue and not mere religious rituals. The rituals of religion could become vitreous acts if we truly think of them and do them in the light of true worship and not a mere religious show in order to gain cheap admiration

FIRST READING
“If any one will not work, let him not eat. ”
A reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians (2 Thessalonians 3:6- 10. 16- 18)
We command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you, we did not eat any one’s bread without paying, but with toil and labour we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you. It was not because we have not that right, but to give you in our conduct an example to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: If any one will not work, let him not eat. Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with you all. I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. This is the mark in every letter of mine; it is the way I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 128:1-2.4-5 (R. 1a)
R/. Blessed are all who fear the Lord.
Blessed are all who fear the Lord,
and walk in His ways!
By the labour of your hands you shall eat.
You will be blessed and prosper. R/.
Indeed thus shall be blessed
the man who fears the Lord.
May the Lord bless you from Sion.
May you see Jerusalem prosper
all the days of your life! R/.

ALLELLUIA 1 John 2:5
Alleluia. Whoever keeps Christ’s word, in him truly love for God is perfected. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“You are sons of those who murdered the prophets.”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (Matthew 23:27-32)
At that time: Jesus said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. So you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ Thus you witness against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.”
The Gospel of the Lord.

TODAY’S REFLECTION
Jesus is very critical of people who appear to be very good Christians but who have very little or nothing of the Christian spirit. Such people are often a danger to others who might be deceived into following them. The Psalmist affirms that those who truly fear the Lord walk in His ways. The Christian way of life is transmitted from generation to generation. Every generation of Christians has a record of heroic men and women who are models of the way of life taught by Jesus Christ. Such people encourages us to continue steadfast on the right way without being deceived by false and pretentious guides

St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare of Assisi shared one of the most beautiful spiritual friendships in the history of the Church.
Their relationship was not centered on possession, romance, or worldly attachment. It was a friendship rooted in Christ—a friendship that helped each of them hear God more clearly, embrace the Gospel more deeply, and persevere in the vocation God had given them.

Francis inspired Clare to give herself completely to Christ. Clare, in turn, became a source of encouragement and strength to Francis and the Franciscan movement. Even after Francis died, Clare faithfully continued the Gospel vision they had embraced together.
Their lives remind us that God sometimes sends people into our lives not to possess us, but to lead us closer to Him.

A true spiritual friendship does not pull you away from God.
It does not make you dependent on another person.
It does not replace your relationship with Christ.
Instead, it whispers:
“Come closer to God.”
“Keep going.”
“Be faithful.”
“Become the saint God is calling you to be.”

St. Clare and St. Francis understood that love becomes most beautiful when it leads us beyond ourselves and toward God.
There is a beautiful devotional reflection often circulated as a “Love Letter to St. Francis from St. Clare.” Although it is not an authenticated historical letter of St. Clare, its imagery beautifully expresses the kind of God-centered friendship their lives inspire:

“Thank you, Francis, for leading me on this path of chasing God, instead of worldly things.”
Perhaps this is one of the greatest gifts a friend can give us—not a promise to stay forever, but the courage to seek God more faithfully.

Francis and Clare did not simply change the world by what they accomplished.
They changed the world by choosing Christ.
By embracing poverty.
By loving the poor.
By serving the Church.
By living the Gospel.
And by helping one another become more faithful to God.
May we also be blessed with friendships that bring us closer to heaven.
And may we become that kind of friend to someone else.

St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us.
St. Clare of Assisi, pray for us.
May our friendships always lead us closer to Christ.
